Is there any pressure buildup so far? That would at least let you know something is halfway working. That gelatine sounds like a nice improvement. I was using a mixture without it when I had bio CO_2 system on my fish tanks, otherwise it was basically the same (even the same dry yeast). Don't use silicone, it won't take a hold. Epoxy could work, but I was using electrical tape and a piece of tubing (from inside) to get rid of any leaks on the cap. I heard it can be tweaked further with special yeast, such as used for wine or "hard liquor basis" which last longer as they can stand higher alcohol levels.
The silicone caulking should be put on the inside of the cap, not the outside. It will hold the pressure up to rupture of the bottle (approx 100-150psi).

Last question i hope. I did everything like you. More than 24h later i have no bubles coming out of the difuser. How many bubbles are supose to come out? One or two every hour or you can look anytime and see bubbles?
This depends a lot on the room temperature, but in general I would say 1 bubble per 4-5 seconds. When you try to squeeze the bottle do you feel pressure? Or can you easily squeeze it?
I made one of these systems this week and I was getting no pressure. The diffuser was just a tank decoration. The system was pushing a bubble a second. I tried various diffuser options and was getting no bubbles. Today I checked the whole line system and found a small leak. Remade the line system, pressure and bubbles with glass diffuser was instant with the newly sealed system. I nearly gave up with this system. But I am a bit of a stubborn git, so rechecked everything, and boom, fixed. Now watchinh little bubbles flooding my tank.
Nope that wouldn't work well or maybe not work at all as it will either produce very large bubbles or might not produce at all as it requires high pressure to produce bubbles

Yeah for a big tank like that it's probably better to skip the gelatin. Just know that without the gelatin the bottle won't last as long. You could also try to make a system with multiple bottles to give you more output.

@@MJAquascaping Thanks for reply. I had one of the glass diffusers from amazon, one of the cheaper ones. The diffuser had a good review. I run DIY kit with citric acid and baking soda. Its with gauge always showing nice pressure between 1.5 and 2 but for that diffuser I had to open the generator full and it was almost not making any bubbles. It was air tight. I think maybe it was faulty or maybe only suitable for very high pressure. I connected cheap small stone now and it's making very tiny bubbles which is really amazing for this type of stone I think it's a lucky stone, one in 1000.All the best MJ, waiting for more of Your videos.
since it cant be turned off,, is it ok i put that co2 24/7 in the tank with plants only (no livestock),, will it kill the plants since the co2 still inject the whole tank day and night?
The gelatin makes it more difficult for the yeast to consume the sugar, or basically they will consume it at a lower speed, this makes the system last a little longer.
Hi I've tried this system with my new diffuser and it needs alot of pressure to push bubbles through. How long does your system take to start diffusing bubbles into the tank? Thanks
How? Mine just won't work. Can't even find any leaks. Do you heat your house all year and never open windows etc. Mine only worked the first few hours (probably due to warm water and that extra tbs of sugar) and stopped. Now a bubble every 10+ minutes if I'm lucky and still not a single co2 bubble out of my diffuser.
I’m about to end my dry start. They say it’s best to have a lot of CO2 in the water at first when flooding the tank. Can this be done by adding less gelatine and or more yeast? Or keeping the bottle in a warmer place? Thanx in advance.
Yep more yeast will for sure speed things up! if you wanna go really crazy you can also leave the gelatine out. But both these things will reduce the longevity of the bottles, so you will have to replace them more often. (2-3 weeks)

@@Year-tk9ii yep! First let it firm up. If it’s not firm you will get a lot of Co2 and the bottle will run out a lot faster.
Can you use saf-instant yeast in this diy method?
u can buy the cap for bottle for 1$ and 30 cent that made for making a diy co2 kit
Hi MJ, nice video. What diffuser do You use for low pressure system like this, most of the diffusers I have seen work only with high pressure system?
I prefer the diffusers with the brown ceramic disc, like the aquario, twinstar, dennerle etc.
But tbh every diffuser will work as long as your system is completely sealed
Can i use airstone as a diffuser?
Bedankt voor de duidelijk uitleg. Kun je voor de 'washing bottle' ook een klein flesje gebruiken 0,5L / 1,0L ?
ja! doe ik normaal ook, maar voor deze video had ik die even niet in huis.
Thanks for your information, it's great for low buget aquarium, I trying your idea ,and works great , Greatings from Prague!!!👍🙏
3 sheets of gelatin? Can I use powdered gelatin? how many grams would one sheet of gelatin be?
since it cant be turned off,, is it ok i put that co2 24/7 in the tank with plants only (no livestock),, will it kill the plants since the co2 still inject the whole tank day and night?
Perfectly fine to inject CO2 24/7 👍😊
Which CO2 diffuser do you recommend for you DIY system setup?
I was also wondering the same. Would love if someone commented. Or did you end up finding one?
@@amberwawa7185 I bought the twinstar co2 diffusor S
is there a way i can time it so that it is on at the same time as the light
Is it good to put this system out of the water at night?
I wonder if you could brew some cider and make CO2.
how does the gelatine work? is it just another food for the yeast to consume?
The gelatin makes it more difficult for the yeast to consume the sugar, or basically they will consume it at a lower speed, this makes the system last a little longer.
@@MJAquascaping oh ok, do you know any alternatives that would work? flour maybe?
@@dizzyguy7423 nah either gelatin or agar agar
@@MJAquascaping ok i’ll give it a try
@@MJAquascaping ph and sorry 1 more question 😅 is the gelatine/agar meant to be completely dissolved in the water?
Hi I've tried this system with my new diffuser and it needs alot of pressure to push bubbles through. How long does your system take to start diffusing bubbles into the tank? Thanks
Its answered at 11:50
Drilling the hole would be better, but whatever works is OK too
Nicely explained everything in detail. Thanks a lot
The English word for the black tool is Pliers
Great information, I'm going to try this. Thankyou.😊
The video is well done, nice and calm and then the end BLAM! Lol. Thanks for sharing this!
works great in a 20l aquarium. thank you. 🇸🇰
(2-3 weeks)
Can I use baking powder instead of yeast??
Thank you very much!
Will stone bricks made for oxygen work as a diffuser?
does anyone know how often you need to replace the second bottle with water for diffusion?
Great video, I'm no Aquascaper but am learning a lot about how to keep an an aquarium from your vids. I had wondered whether it would be possible for cat owners to keep an open-top tank, as I will be bringing home a kitten in two weeks... Can you offer any advice on how to manage your cat's behaviour around aquariums please? 🌿🐠🌱🐟😺🌿
We have 2 cats, and they just love to drink from the tanks.. 😂 they don't care about the fish at all. So we just let them drink from it, there's no harm in that.
@@MJAquascaping now there's a picture, thanks Mark, it certainly gives me hope that both kitten and fish will be able to live together in harmony. I saw a video of a cat diving into a full tank the other day 😅, this is my first time owning pets, wish me luck! 🙂
@@sweetdreamstime2266 I have a cat and a fish tank that stay almost exclusively in my room. I did have to install a mesh aquarium cover because i was worried she would get into the tank while im at school or away. I very highly recommend a steel mesh cover for a tank. They are pretty cheap and all you have to do for tubing or cables is cut a few diamonds off with butcher scissors or pliers.
@@wildfiretoff2789 thank you for the advice 👍🏽
Hey man,
Amazing video as always.
I have one question. Is there any significant downside to using just one bottle? If I use the same recipe, but don't use the 2nd bottle with water, will it be harmful to fish or shrimp in the aquarium in any way?
Not at all
@@MJAquascaping Thanks ^_^
Hi. Am getting 30-40 bubble counts per minute. Is it ok?
Would this have any effect in a larger tank? (50gallon)
You can scale this to any tank size. Just add more bottles or use bigger bottles with double the recipe! experiment with it!
How do you know the yeast isn't producing anymore CO2? Is it gonna stop bubbling? Or?
You will notice less CO2 coming out of the diffusor
Haha. Je kan beter een 5mm gaatje boren. Trek je je 6mm slangetje altijd waterdicht doorheen. Goede video verder!
The bloopers at the end though! 😅🤣
Have you got all the sugar out of your carpets?
took a while! haha
i have a air fed sponge filter, is that too much surface agitation for 24/7 CO2 to have any benefit from it?
Not too sure, just give it a try i think? 😊
@@MJAquascaping all right and what do i do with the liquid after its done bubbling.. distill it? 😏
Can i use a oxigen difuser instead of a co2 difuser?
Yep!
Hi, should i use jelly power instead of gelatine?
I used gelatin powder. One packet, -+5-9g is the same as three sheets. Actual jelly to make food is full of sugar, flavourings etc
