  • Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis or DFMEA. What is DFMEA? Why do we do it and how does it benefit us as a designer? All these questions are answered in this video. You would also get to know the usage of template for DFMEA and finding the RPN number, which is multiplication of occurence, severity and detection of any failure mode and stands for Risk Priority Number.
    DFMEA is done during the design phase of the product the make sure that a rubust product is design which would not have any failure in future or in other words it helps us to prevent any possible faillures in future and makes our design robust. Thereby reduces our design iterations and development cost.

    Sir, when we are at design/proto stage, hw can we find occurance when sample lot yet to be produced?

    • @ProdacLabs
      @ProdacLabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Abhay, you can figure out failure modes from your design itself. Need not to wait for physical samples to be produced. As u can see in my example. I just used a CAD model to explain entire process.

    • @ProdacLabs
      @ProdacLabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      And refer to tables for respective values of parameters.

  • @Vision267
    @Vision267 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    how to improve rpn?

    • @ProdacLabs
      @ProdacLabs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, RPN is a product of detection, occurrence and severity. You need to drop these parameters to improve your RPN. Severity is a predefined metrix so you can play around with detection and occurence.

  • @designfluky6762
    @designfluky6762 ปีที่แล้ว

    In detection, The weightage would be low because we can detect the sliding fit by doing assembly of the parts

    • @ProdacLabs
      @ProdacLabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, detection numbers are high because it can be detected easily. When failure is there and can not be detected easily then it's kept low.

    • @ajitr28
      @ajitr28 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @prodaclabs
      When the issue is detected easily then it’s good for us and hence the rating should be low . If the issue is hard to detect, then it’s hard to resolve it. So the detection rating should be high. You can go thru the rating section once again

    Hi .. At the start of the video you told, that this analysis has to be done at the time of Design , and when in the Occurance stage you are saying it will be done at Prototype stage . Something is not in a systmatic way for presentation . I thing you should present how you got the predefined ranking table , how you derived this table and the numbers . I thing this video need more clarification with proper explanation. Thanks .

    • @ProdacLabs
      @ProdacLabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Debananda, thanks for watching the video and your comment. Just to answer your question, prototyping is part of design phase itself. Infact design phase keeps on going till you release your product for product build. Which means you have to fix all your possible failure modes before you launch the product for production. Hope that answers your question.
