This was fun! My style is definitely minimalist and modern. I love clean lines - in decor, clothing, everything! The problem for me has always been how to incorporate cosiness with minimalism; nobody wants their home to look like an institution. I think I’ve got the right blend now, but it took a lot of trial and error to get there. Great video Steffi! As usual I find you very inspiring.
Aw thank you so much! You're always so lovely with your comments. 🥰 Have you thought about adding some Scandi elements? Scandi and minimalism have a lot in common in terms of simplicity, but Scandi brings in the warmth and texture you feel is missing!
I could have written your comment! Cozy minimalism is my style, I guess. I actually had to ADD a couple of throw pillows to the (free) couch. My recliner was hiding (under piles of clutter) in my old basement. And the upholstered chair was $25 at a consignment shop. I warmed up my place with soft mauve walls, large paintings, and faux flower arrangements (I guess a hobby of mine). But it’s still not right. I think it’s the living room furniture…
Dude, your channel has helped me so much! I turned my “old, outdated” rental into a truly stunning home that feels more relative but still interesting and historic. It’s modern but not too…sterile. Lol. I’m so happy!
Such a good video! I did find myself kinda bleeding into more than one category at times, but by the end I really think it helped me open my eyes to what I’m searching for. I’m going to watch this video several times and really study it to figure it out! I think since I first moved in, my entire goal was to be more minimalist, without being a minimalist. The problem 2 years ago was that I had SO MUCH STUFF, but no where to put them! It’s taken me 2 years to sort or curate my space with different furniture (including painting), getting rid of things that no longer serve me, and just allow my place to “breathe”. Kind of amazing what I’ve actually accomplished not in 2 years, but in the last few MONTHS since I found your videos! My space isn’t where I want it to be, but it’s a HUGE improvement. I have SPACE for DECORATING now rather than just for STORAGE! The problem I’m having IS the decorating and figuring out how to LOVE my space. I know I don’t have a “style” yet, since organizing is still a major priority, but figuring out my style in the meantime is also a forefront thought.
You're totally going about this in the right way Keiko! I love that you're focusing on getting organized first because clutter pretty much kills style. You want to start with a clean slate first! In the meantime, keep dreaming about what your personal style can look like when you're ready to move on from organizing!
I think I’m industrial, dark minimalist. Kinda in the zone of witchy, goth but very clean and tasteful. I’ll make it up as I go but I would’ve never gotten to that conclusion if it wasn’t for you helping me focus on myself first
Good question Loretta! I don't see eclectic as a specific style as much as a descriptive word. For example, you can have an eclectic boho room or an eclectic mid-century modern room, etc. Eclectic can be applied to pretty much any style (tougher with minimalism though), and just means you're pulling from a variety of styles, places, moods, and types of objects. I hope that makes sense!
Really lovely video, helped me figure out what I want, I think I'm Scandinavian Minimalist with a fair dose of Rustic, I'm moving into my very first apartment soon and this video has really helped me know just what I want.
Jeez I don't fit into any category, maybe eclectic, but not maximalist! Not minimalist either! A combination of warm & textured but not Scandi, bright and warm colours, bit of boho, bit dark decor, bit rustic, lots of books and plants! What the hell do I have?! Lol

I once had my sister tell me about how to find a theme and decorate around it. I was horrified because I had never done that. I had no style plan! I thought I would go home, open my front door and suddenly realize that nothing in my apartment worked at all! But when I got home, I realized that I had bought many pieces of pine furniture and that my home had a clean, rustic feel. I was so relieved. So maybe you do have a style and you don't know it yet.
Lol I feel this so hard! I truly love pretty much ALL interior styles. When you're as obsessed with interior style as I am, it kind of comes with the territory to genuinely love them all to some extent. And in some way, shape, or form, I incorporate many different styles in my studio! Some are less obvious than others, but there's definitely quite a mix here. You definitely do NOT need to constrain yourself to one style. Celebrate the fact that you love so many and go for it!
I get it! Allow me to try and shift your mindset a little bit though - instead of viewing your love of multiple styles as a problem, think about how awesome that can be! You're a complex human being who's open to lots of different things, and you have an opportunity to create a truly unique space by not pigeon holing yourself into one single style. This comes with challenges, but should be celebrated! 😊
I'm moving into my own space soon and am currently very minimal, but it's been missing something for a while now. I've recently become interested in expanding my color palette and have been digging patterns. After watching this, I've realized I'm interested in exploring the rustic aesthetic with strategic hints of maximalism. I currently have a lot of wood/plants and want to maintain that while introducing more colors & textures. Thanks for this!

Hey on a side note. I'm not even interior design studies, just got my first place and this video is very helpful. lol never thought I'd sit here and watch this...
Oh my goodness, this video was brilliant. I have always lived in small spaces; whether it be a room in a share house or a tiny bed setter, it has always been difficult to style my area. Over the years, I have collected lots of mixed-matched stuff, but I know I want to head towards that dark aesthetic.
This was crazy helpful I’m thinking dark scandi industrial minimalism with some glam accents here and there. Like a dark nature aesthetic, bare wood, black metal, bronze, Edison bulbs, with emphasis on comfy fuzzy throw blankets and fairy lights (maybe a light grey fake fur fuzzy blanket to stand out against the charcoal and black) and LOTS of fresh smelling candles. I’m talking black, greys, maybe a royal green centerpiece, with hints of yellow and orange here and there. I want my place to smell like fresh rain, gardenia, and citrus. Not too many shelves, paintings, and vases to keep it from getting cluttered. lol
Ahh I love how specific you're getting!! You're even thinking in a multi-sensory way by talking about how you want your space to smell! With this clear of a vision, you're bound to create a stunning space 😊
@@ModaMisfit your channel is the first one I’ve seen that had decor inspiration that I genuinely wanted to incorporate myself. I really like your material. Maybe you could do a video about incorporating multiple sense into decor! Like texture (smooth, fuzzy, rough), smells, furniture/decor that feels warm (like cloth, blankets) vs cold (leather, plastic, metal) and how that plays into aesthetics. I dunno just a suggestion for if you run out of ideas
I love minimalism/ Scandi and I got my cartoon cow shower curtain from Ikea. It has moved with me many times and it always makes my new place feel like home. Ikea has fabric curtains that can be washed - go for those over the cheap plastic ones that tear after a while.
Thank you!! 😊 Have you looked into Society6 for a shower curtain? They have TONS of options because every piece of art on their site can be made as a shower curtain. They have tons of minimalist/Scandi designs over there!
@@ModaMisfit Yes and I still can’t find one that excites me. I saw a black and white curtain online but when I went to Target to look at it didn’t care for it. It looked cheap. I’ve found neat toss pillows and a throw from Society6.
I loved this! I've been having trouble figuring out which styles I prefer because I know I'll have to mix some a little. This helped me realize I'm definitely a mix of rustic and darkmoody(witchy) aesthetic. The problem was I always saw more farmhouse vibes when looking for rustic and I had never seen a darker rustic look. This reminded me I can mix the two!
It’s such a tricky subject, isn’t it :) To me it all comes down to the actual location of your place (the history of the country and the past architectural styles, whether it’s in a city or in the woods, whether it’s in the old town or an industrial part of the city etc etc etc). I like so many different elements of different styles but it has to go with the building and the neighborhood too. Well - at least for me. For example I quite like Victorian houses, warehouses, Haussmann architecture (I adore the balconies) but since you can’t find 2 of those styles where I’m from, my favorites are instead baroque (we were under Czarist Russia & Peter the Great built quite a few buildings that I adore) but also our wooden farm houses that are traditionally “our own”, not brought in by a foreign emperor. So again, it all comes down to using what you’ve already got and making it fit in with everything else. You don’t wanna build a house that’ll stand out because it simply doesn’t look natural, you wanna use all your resources and combine them, make them work (idk from living in a windy area and using that wind for producing electricity or as an “AC” to using materials like pine trees or limestone or whatever you’ve got in your area that will support your community when purchasing them and also look fitting). I know that most of this touches more on the architectural side of the coin (not the interior design) but the two are so intertwined to me that I could never separate them.
Very very true!! I definitely think the two are very much intertwined, and the architecture and history of a building can help inform your decor decisions!
i just found your channel and ive been loving your videos 😊 unlike most people tho, im not actually moving into an apartment lol, im working on creating my own home in virtual reality it will be the place i go to when im not doing anything, a place to just relax and maybe invite some friends so i want it to be just right,, and your videos have helped and inspired me a lot! :)

I think thats the libra in me..cant choose one look..gotta have them all. I change the way my place looks like I change my clothes.
I am 53 and have changed my homes looks many times over the years. One thing that I find, I have some antiques that have just never been edited, I love them. Adding one of two really beautiful pieces just make a home so endless. But on that, I have recently (2years) ended up with a multitude of someone elses stuff in the home..... its hard to edit their items
I got minimalism/boho, mid-century modern, dark decor, industrial, mid-century modern, industrial/boho, and the last one boho, but the maximalist description matched since I'm an introvert. Can you help narrow this down I'm someone who overthinks. Lastly, love the channel
I sorta did question one last night before I found this video. First advice I got from someone was to come up with adjectives to describe how my bedroom should feel. And I came up with 13. Some of them are exact opposites. Like energizing and relaxing. Depending on the day and my mood. I think if I were to narrow it down to the most important than I would say, diverse, creative, escape/fantasy, and gender nonconforming. I tend to like about a dozen styles and I never can decide on just one. I'm a unicorn at heart, one of a kind 😀. I would totally do bright and bold juxtaposed against dark and moody. Think H.P. Lovecraft plays with barbie dolls in his spare time 😀.
There's really no reason we can't incorporate all of these styles into one cohesive room - I was hoping you'd do a vid that instead of limiting our styles to either Calm, Creative or Cozy - we can do all three!
I really loved this. My problem is that I live in a very traditional, brick home. I would love to be more Minimalistic/Scandi. My choices have changed through the years. My husband is from Denmark and tried to get me to like Danish Modern, back when we were first married. I tried, really I did, but coming from more traditional mix-mash, I couldn't get on board. Now that we are retired I would love to get rid of so much stuff, which I am doing. My styles have changed and of course needs have changed. How do you put minimalism and Scandi in a very Traditional House and neighborhood without looking out of place? Do you just not worry about it?
Very good question, Janet! Your instincts are very understandable - the existing architecture and design of a space can definitely convey its own style, and if it doesn't naturally match up with what you want it can be a challenge. Overall, I would say not to worry about it! Be mindful of it, sure, but at the end of the day if you know minimalism/Scandi would make you happiest, that's what you should strive for. And I agree with Halo's comment here about painting the brick white! That can give it a very chic, refreshing feel that would lend itself to minimalism much more easily. 😊
I chose cozy, warm and textured. But I'm anything BUT Scandinavian, which I find utterly boring with all the white, beige and black. The lack of color in that style (not how real Scandinavians often do it!) is a real heartache. I find it anything BUT cozy and warm! So I lost my interest in this right away, thought it was beyond dumb.
Instead of "Mad Men" and "Downton Abbey" - what if someone is a fan of "Star Trek", "Star Wars", and sci-fi in general; or if they're a fan of "Game of Thrones", "Lord of the Rings", and Medieval fantasy in general?
There’s a lot you can do with that!! There’s some really interesting design from the space age that’s more futuristic and I think Lord of the Rings can provide some very clear inspiration if it’s wanting to live like a hobbit that’s appealing. I’m not even that interested in fantasy but I’d love that, who wouldn’t! Steampunk doesn’t appeal to me but they seem to have a very clear idea of how to combine fantasy elements with real world, historical design elements. I imagine a similar approach might help you bring the fantasy media you love into a real world design style of your own?
Thank you so much for watching! What interior style do you think you want to go for in your space?
I can’t decide! Is there a style where you like literally every style of decor and every color ever? Maybe it’s called indecisive 😂
I'm boho minimalist. Cool 😎 video. I enjoyed it.

I love the sound of that!
Minimslistic Dark &moody glam boho.... but how lol
I am all over the place 🤣
Me never seeing either of the tv shows •3•
I’m calling my style “Dark Boho Middleism” : dark + boho in the middle of maximalism and minimalism.😂
Ooh I love the sound of that!
Lol same, here ive been like….dark art deco + uh bohemian?
I find myself gravitating towards dark boho . That must be why my parents referred to me as their scary free spirit lol.
Haha I love that! Embrace that scary free spirit aesthetic!
There's really no reason we can't incorporate all of these styles into one cohesive room - I was hoping you'd do a vid that instead of limiting our styles to either Calm, Creative or Cozy - we can do all three!
Didn’t say you only had to choose one!
@@ModaMisfit I want all three 😅😂
I really loved this.
I would paint the brick white.
A minimalist boho
Apparently that's my style
So basically a Caribbean home.
Ah sounds lovely!
What if I don’t know the answer to any of these? 😩😣 indecisive and I hate it
Mix oh boho, rustic and scandi for me!
I answered wrong all the time, since I know my style. 🤣 I'm all about rustic and glam boho! So what does those wrong answers tell me...? 😅
❤️❤️❤️🥰
With so many questions, now im sitting here asking myself.. why do I have 4 styles.. this is even more confusing 🥲
My style is so mixed
So is mine! That's a good thing. 😊 It would be almost impossible to stick to just one style!
Hello miss Moda! just wondering what is your background?? EDUCATION????
feng shui
I chose cozy, warm and textured. But I'm anything BUT Scandinavian, which I find utterly boring with all the white, beige and black. The lack of color in that style (not how real Scandinavians often do it!) is a real heartache. I find it anything BUT cozy and warm!
So I lost my interest in this right away, thought it was beyond dumb.
Like most quizzes, this really is just meant to be for fun. It's not that serious. 🙃
@@ModaMisfit It was no fun.
