  • The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is taking significant steps to ensure the Super Eagles secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After a challenging start to the qualifiers, with draws against Lesotho and Rwanda under former coach Jose Peseiro, and a draw with South Africa and a loss to Benin Republic under new head coach Finidi George, Nigeria finds itself fifth in Group C with just three points from a possible 12.
In a bid to turn things around, the NFF is considering bringing in a foreign technical director to bolster the team’s coaching staff. This approach would see Finidi remain as head coach, potentially working alongside a new foreign manager who would take on most of the coaching responsibilities.
This strategy echoes the Ghanaian Football Federation’s successful dual-coach system during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The NFF, led by President Ibrahim Gusau, is set to discuss these plans with Sports Minister John Enoh in Abuja. The potential new manager, former Cameroon coach Toni Conceicao, might join the team ahead of the September Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, aiming to revitalize the Super Eagles’ campaign.
    Stay tuned for more updates on the Super Eagles’ journey to the 2026 World Cup and the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers. #supereagles #soarsupereagles #finidigeorge #finidi #toniconciecao #conceicao #nff #npfl #bafanabafana #nigeria #nigeriafootball #worldcupqualifier #afconqualifiers #afcon2023 #afcon2024 #peseiro #ministerofsports #sports #fifaworldcupqualifiers #fifaworldcup #rohr
