This is kind of a forgotten time (late '80's)rock history after new wave but before alternative became huge. Kind of a transition era. TMBG have distorted guitars that alt-rock would be known for. While most '90's alt would self depreciating TMBG still had the goofy nerdy fun in a B-52's kind of way
Yeah, Linnell is gorgeous lol This and the "Birdhouse in Your Soul" videos inspired me to wear dark turtle-necks constantly for a brief period of time... Sometimes I still do...
You can't get in where they filmed this anymore. It's barricaded off and so are the space ship things from Men In Black. I was in Queens for a Mets game and thought, I should try to see where they filmed the video but it's all run down and grass is growing through the concrete. Sad to see it go.
You know when you hear a song and you know its good, but it becomes special the moment you feel that little chill at the bottom of your spine and all you can do is smile? I used to get that all the time as I introduced myself to new music, and for the first time in a while I felt it again :)
I remember staying up late one Sunday night to watch 120 minutes on MTV (back when the word alternative music was legitimate). I saw this video and was hooked ever since. Also I think I was barely a teenager then...maybe not.
I first heard this in 1987 on a tape cassette dubbed from my brother's vinyl copy. I was probably the coolest 7th grader out there. Made my day finding this video!
They might be giants make me happy. I am having a hard time rigth now and my ex from hight school sent this song to me because I love it so much. It just but a smile on my face :) and The Puppet Hand.
i love how linnell looks so tierd and badly in need of a hair cut actully thats what linnell discribed himself as and all and u know what when i dance i feel stupid but when i dance like linnell and flansy i feel so...so...so ALIVE man i know im obssesed with them i practicly war ship tmbg ALL HAIL THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS! ALL HAIL THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS! ALL HAIL!

i think the guy is james allen white, a newspaper writer and editor from the 1940's, which makes the video that much cooler. great song, great video. i remember when i first saw the video, it totally blew me away. a fantastic 2 and a half minutes.
"He is William Allen White, beloved Kansan, small-town newspaperman and prominent progressive. His editorials in the Emporia Gazette won him the Pulitzer Prize. And a run for governor centered on a single issue: ridding the state of the KKK."
There were a lot of bad videos then, too. In fact early music videos were unknown territory for bands, and some were really lame. Then came the hair-bands, and their videos tried so hard to make them look so cool, so this was quite a crack up by comparison. Back then I used to confuse these guys with Bare Naked Ladies on the radio.
they're touring in the immediate future. i'm going both nights in portsmouth, nh in march! look up the tour dates/cities to see if they're comin near you. i wont hold your hand, you know where google is. ;)
they do the dunkin commercials, the vacation homes commercial, fingertips, the malcolm in the middle theme, the higglytown heroes theme, and just about everything else.
How come old videos are so cool? New music videos are all like, "Yo waz bloin' mi hommie! a wricie rap, oh yeah!"? That is why They Might Be Giants are sooo cool! They are soo me- crazy.
ZOMG!! I was there too! =D Ya, they totally rocked. I was surprised by how entertaining they were in concert. The Triceratops Trio RoX0r3d!!!1!one!! =D
Saw them at the Beacon this year. Do any of you know if there's a video for 'Fingertips'? And does nayone know if they're the ones behind those Dunkin' Donuts Coffee commercials?
I read an article once in which they were asked "who is 'the face'?". They said that due to copyright issues they could not reveal who that is a picture of.
dont you just feel that little pang of exitment in ur chest when u hear it ? and its don't don't don't lets start ive got a weak heart and in the begining dont dont dont lets start this is the worst part

Despite their goofiness, you can tell these guys are very good students of music
You know what's the second best thing in this song (besides the actual song itself)? The choreography. Beyond a doubt.
Linnell looks so young and happy at 1:15. :)
This video's from before I was a fan, and trust me folks, that was a very, very, very long time ago!
One of the top 100 music videos ever made, apparently. Couldn't agree more.
=)
Let us not forget about Flans. He too is a gorgeous genius.
One of the best videos ever made, IMO.
john linnell looks cute
This type of thing is what all music-video should be like...The kind where you want to sing along...
Most awsome best band ever...live forever TMBG!
I first heard this in 1987 on a tape cassette dubbed from my brother's vinyl copy. I was probably the coolest 7th grader out there. Made my day finding this video!

At this point in their career, they had no drummer; just a drumming machine.
I love TMBG!! This is one of my favorite songs!
It kinda looks like they have ADD or something, but that's what makes it great!
i love these guys, they have that weird unique style that i love
This song is.. amazing.
These guys have some kick ass music videos.
Being able to jump around that spasmodically is definitely a skill I wish I had.
I love this video. And TMBG.
Just saw TMBG at the 930 club in DC. They were awesome. They still use the head of that old man in concert. Who the hell is he?
I freekin LOVE this video!
I remember seeing this on Turkey TV when I was 10 year olds. This song and vid use to fascinate me. I didn't get it but I liked it.
TMBG at their best! Oh, it is fun being 36! Part of the fun is having the memories of these things brought back via You Tube...
i love tmbg more than anything
GET READY! October 11 is They Day, write "THEY" on your forehead or arm to show your love of TMBG!
i love how linnell looks so tierd and badly in need of a hair cut actully thats what linnell discribed himself as and all and u know what when i dance i feel stupid but when i dance like linnell and flansy i feel so...so...so ALIVE man i know im obssesed with them i practicly war ship tmbg

How they move is so cool in this.
I believe this was the song that started it all for them. How great was that? And what a cool video, using not too many resources.
This video/music happens to music, I love the chorus so much... it is extremely catchy.

One of the best music videos in history and clearly one of their best songs. And it's the first recording? Wowzer.
so smart and clever
Awesome video. Awesome song.
"He is William Allen White, beloved Kansan, small-town newspaperman and prominent progressive. His editorials in the Emporia Gazette won him the Pulitzer Prize. And a run for governor centered on a single issue: ridding the state of the KKK."

Great music video. Nice style.

i love those hats. on their music video dvd, they said that they made them out of cardboard and cloth. i wanna make one...
It's a 1968 Coral Longhorn. Danelectro makes a solid body longhorn that sounds pretty awesome.
Luv it ~
they do the dunkin commercials, the vacation homes commercial, fingertips, the malcolm in the middle theme, the higglytown heroes theme, and just about everything else.
I think if more people listened to tmbg people generally would be more cheerful... :-)
Video is surreal. It's like I'm having an acid trip or something.
How come old videos are so cool? New music videos are all like, "Yo waz bloin' mi hommie! a wricie rap, oh yeah!"? That is why They Might Be Giants are sooo cool! They are soo me- crazy.
This is for Steph. I hope this brings some cheer to your day!

Whoa who turned on the time machine?

Its of the TMBG producer, who said before they started filming that he always wanted to be famous, so they put his face in as a joke I guess.
ROCK ON TMBG!
Saw them at the Beacon this year. Do any of you know if there's a video for 'Fingertips'?
And does nayone know if they're the ones behind those Dunkin' Donuts Coffee commercials?
I don't know what it is about this song...but I love it....what is it about the sound?
Don't Don't do not start I got a weak heart...
If you have kids they make really good kids music about abc's and 123s w/ DVDs!
GAH!! I love the Johns. there's probably little I love more.
i saw them in LA and they did the konga line too
I read an article once in which they were asked "who is 'the face'?". They said that due to copyright issues they could not reveal who that is a picture of.
dont you just feel that little pang of exitment in ur chest when u hear it ? and its don't don't don't lets start ive got a weak heart and in the begining dont dont dont lets start this is the worst part
The best parts are between 0:03 and 0:09, then at 1:56 to 1:59
I saw them at the barrymore in Madison. i like their opening band Openhiemer too(thats probably spelled wrong).
I think this song and the video are one big take-off on all the "OMG ANGST" music of the time...
And they're so cute in there. Aww yeah.
Yeah I wish they's top saying that too John...Yeah...do the seizure!! I always loved this video as a kid, I was like "AWESOME! nerds can rock too!"
Mesmerizing jumping heads
Not sure about the donuts, but check out Amazing Vacation Homes...they do the theme
