    I understand that sound preference is subjective, so let's look at build quality. If Collings doesn't satisfy your build standard, what do you prefer? You'd have to look into single-luthier commissioned hand-builds like Omega, Ryan, McKnight, Olson, etc..

  • @Numlocq

    Because you start with the darkest colours then work your way through to lighter colours. Lighter colours are less likely to cover up the dark colours

    I just realized that you were saying that Collings had no volume (I'll assume Vol = volume). I don't really know how to comment on that. I've played some Collings guitars with Adi tops that absolutely destroyed Gibsons and Taylors in terms of volume. Don't get me wrong, I love Gibson (Taylor, not so much), but Collings, in terms of build quality and tone, beats almost any factory made guitar, hands down.

    Great work. Out of interest, do you mask the rosette or scrape it somehow? Love to know the process as ill be trying a burst later this year.

    Gorgeous
    Compliments!
    I should paint a 70's eko ranger 12-string acoustic which is already live.
    I eliminated all the very thick polyester paint because it was cracked and because I hope that without gaining a little more sound
    I would like to do sunburst.
    You advise me to do it with the black brown red amber background sequence like the acoustic gibson (I would do it with water or toxicity problems) or with the pad system you used (I think that being not an expert in using a spray allows me to make less mistakes).
    T Did I think about using shellac with various pigments added to get the shade or just alcohol mordants of various shades?
    For the final transparent stage?
    I wouldn't mind a buffered sunburst finish but with a wax finish similar to natural wood taylor to gain even more sound.
    Can the preparation be skipped by giving more coats and sanding or is there an easy way to do it?
    To avoid beard and blemishes 300 - 600 - 1000?
    Thanks Roberto

    Do you mean the wrinkles on the lower left at the 3:00 mark? If so, that's the paper covering the sides so they don't get sprayed.

    Nice , thanks for this video ! Question I have , did Fender start with the outer dark brown back in the old days when
    spraying a 2 or three tone sunburst ?

    Very cool - it's incredible how the sprayer works so quickly, yet he's so precise . . . BTW, who was playing the great soundtrack behind the video?

    Nice work. I was wondering where i can get one of those rotating paint stands, between that and great technique, you can't go wrong. Also wondering what reduction are you using for your colors?

  • @boynamedlen
    @boynamedlen 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Odd, I always though the tones were applied in reverse order: first everything yellow, then a wide band of red(ish) and then a narrower band of black.

    Was there a glitch in this video? Toward the end look at the bottom lower left of the guitar on the lower bout, looks like a major mess up?

    How do you cover the rosette and binding from getting paint on them?

    • @CollingsGuitars
      @CollingsGuitars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use fine line tape to mask off bindings and purfling as well as scraping. Thanks!

    I was referring to your grammar and writing. I'm from Virginia and I don't like seeing people who write like you because it tends to confirm the negative stereotype of the uneducated Appalachian.
    Well, you can't really compare Collings to Taylor in terms of price because Taylor makes guitars for a wide range of budgets (low end, up to high end.) Taylor 8 or 9 series guitars and their Built-To-Order guitars are the only ones I'd compare to Collings, and yet they cost more.
