    I’ve been to this property! I’ve hiked it’s acres and the land behind it. It’s beautiful! I’m from Arkansas, USA and have visited NZ twice. I know the previous owners of the house and I’m so thrilled to watch as you renovate and make it your own dream home and property! God bless!

    Congratulations! We found our dream house last year in Germany and did a lot of renovations. We really appreciate that opportunity to create a unique home for our family!! ✨🏡🔨🌱 Thanks for sharing your adventure!

      Danke! You know all about the feelings then. Where in Germany?! I loved my travels through Bavaria and southern Germany. My grandfathers family came from Tauberbischoffshein - hope I spelled that right. I think it’s near the Black Forest. I’d love to go one day.

    Congratulations you guys. It's so nice to see you can now settle and pursue your dream. I'm sure you have access to lots of information here in New Zealand on how to start your Homesteading life, but I thought I'd mention some of the people on TH-cam that I follow in the UK. Charles Dowding is in England and is an expert in no-dig gardening and may give you some ideas of how to get planting veges on your plot from day one. Bealtaine Cottage with Collette O'Neill is in Ireland and a huge supporter of Permaculture and has done amazing things with her piece of land. And finally Liz Zorab - Byther Farm (and her husband) is in Wales and has just taken on a new property after developing their previous one as a "Homestead". Good luck and happy growing.

    I have been following your journey since you left the US for NZ. This video has absolutely made my week!! After all the ups and downs you guys have been through, not letting the negatives get you down, having faith and trusting the process… it has all finally paid off. Congratulations team!!

    I am so happy for you guys! We have started saving up for our down payment so we can buy our own homestead! We decided to start looking so we could get motivated! We will be going from a condo with no yard, to hopefully 5-10 acres! We plan on getting horses, goats, alpacas, chickens, and who knows what else! We'll start small, obviously, but we're ready!

    • @AlexanderAyling
      @AlexanderAyling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Check your peach trees. If you don’t have a Golden Queen get a tree. That is the peach that Watties canned for years but off the tree the skin is a bit tough but the flesh is to die for.

    Meant to be. Obviously not a 'No' on the other offers but 'Wait', something better is coming. Super stoked for you both and huge kia ora to your pronunciation of the region on your home. Really jealous of your wee orchard. Stone fruit of Wairarapa are superior. Heck, anything grown in Wairarapa is exported before it gets to Auckland. Bragging rights. Great whanau farm dog you've got.

    Congratulations guys. Check out Charles Dowding No Dig Gardening. This guy is Mr green thumb personified. He's based in the UK which is similar to NZ so just add 6 months to the dates he says. If your after a pizza in the summer then Mt Holdsworth Pizza is the place to go. It's inland from Masterton which isn't too far if the Ruamanga river or Martinborough is the region I suspect your in. You'll love i in the Wairarapa. It's very hot and sunny in the summer which isn't far away now. The daffodils are out and the Tui's have started checking out the Kowhai trees at my place and that for me is the 1st indication that spring is almost here. Arohanui guys

    Awesome result. I adore the Wairarapa. I lived there for 4 years when I was ten in an amazing homestead and 30 acres of land. As a city girl moving to the country they were some of the happiest years of my life. Now my partner and I live in a beautiful lifestyle property in Mangaroa Valley recreating that beautiful experience.

    Aloha you kids...We had an organic farm that grew produce for the island until 2018 when the lava covered the entire 5 acres. It was a total loss and we have been looking for a place to grow more organic food again and we are a retired professional gay couple who have lived together for 36 years and still enjoy our best friend friendship. Your videos are very interesting to me who is ready for a change to simplistic lifestyle. We enjoy coastal areas that are more tropical with water views. Funny thing is that I looked at a map of NZ and your home location came up intuitively for me! Well great seeing and hearing your talks and looking forward to hearing more from you! when you say 1 and a half bathrooms does that mean that the toilet is separate?

    • @AlexanderAyling
      @AlexanderAyling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s one full bathroom with bath/shower toilet. Then another separate toilet, then a sleepout bathroom with shower and toilet

      @@AlexanderAyling so what do you call it when a bathroom just has the bath and shower but no toilet in it and the toilet is in a separate room . am I correct in thinking it is not common for American houses to have a room with just the toilet ?

    Congratulations on your new home! It looks perfect for you ❤️ I am an environmental scientist/contaminated land specialist and I I can’t help but sharing that a few alarms bells were going off in my head, especially since I know that you plan to grow food that you will ever. Prior to 2000, (particularly in the 50s, 60s and 70s) the use of persistent pesticides - think arsenic, lead, and DDT was very common for orchards and berry farms. Since you want to keep those things as is, it’s probably fine. But if you are planning to put any in ground gardens in, it would be good to get targeted soil testing done. Or just created raised bed gardens to avoid any risk 😊 I don’t say this to be a party pooper, just to shed some light ok a factor that you may not be aware of.
    Can’t wait to see some more of the place!

    • @AlexanderAyling
      @AlexanderAyling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexanderAyling I’m not very familiar with the Wairarapa region since I’m based in Canterbury. But I know that Environment Canterbury, the environment sector of our regional council has lots of resources about things like this. I have to assume that the Wairarapa regional council has similar services, or can at least point you to a local consultant that can give you specific guidance. (I wish I could offer my firm to help but the north island is just a bit too far away for us to do the work ☹️)

    Just imagine in the near future - you make your coffee from your kitchen and carry two outside, one for you and one you made for Carrie.
