    Very nice reaview. Watching this video 7 years after and the $20 camera is now typically a $140 camera because of the waist-level finder and social media. The camera is beautiful though.

    Not 'upside down', just horizontal mirroring :). After 20 years of GAS, I now have two 35mm slrs; one a Nikon EL2, the other my 1968 1a (my dad's first family cam) with waist level viewfinder. The Nikon is a tank, but still requires more care & maintenance than the Exa. Oh, and ND filters for the win on a summer day :).

    Note that the Exa was made by the same company which made the Exacta, the first "system" SLR with a vast array of specialized accessories, most of which also fit the Exa. The Exa takes nearly all of the lenses made by a dozen different makers to fit the Exacta. The reason the Exa has limited shutter speeds is that it uses a unique rotary shutter mechanism, which cannot operate fast enough for high speeds. The Exa was produced as a less costly alternative to the Exacta. The fairly simple design of the camera means that used bodies usually work well, more so that their Exacta brothers. $20 for a mint Exa 1a? Not around here.

      Nice. I wish they were 20 bucks here too, but they are available in Prague and I am sure other Eastern European Countries

      @@eagle112800 yea the exa can be found in many eastern European countries. I found a 20 buck 1c and a 30 bucks 1a. I also was able to find a 50 bucks exakta vx1000. It's maybe because I border Germany and a lot of them land here idk

    BRAVO, and Lovely, as too have much fond Respect for German Craftsmanship that I too have a few models of the SLR Line, as I have my share of Pentacon's F, and the Praktina SLR with all Zeiss Jena Lenses, and acquired a Wirgin Edxia SLR 35mm camera as I clean it, and fixed the shutter stickiness. What you have is Cherish Models, and Go Out and shoot Film. 😀😀📸📸

    wanted to use a b/W negativ film.....but which ISO/ASA? regarding the speed

    • @eagle112800
      @eagle112800  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kayan Özgenc Hi, you can use any film for the situation, but remember with the EXA you are limited in your shutter speeds so if you are shooting outside in day light I would go with 100 or 125. I love the look of HP4 by ilford, but that's just my thoughts. If you don't have a light meter then you can use the sunny 16 rule at 125th of a second. So on a sunny day without a filter 400 ISO is going to be too fast for this little camera.

    Hey man, i have the same camera with several objectives and viewfinders. And a flash for this sweet old lady too! can i may ask you a few questions about the right settings for different situations (exposure, aperture, different light levels) that would be great

      +Johnnie Walker Sure I can try to point you in the right direction. Most of what I know I read in the book The Camera. I have a review of the book on my channel. I highly recommend it. You can find it on eBay for cheap, or buy it new in paperback. It was written by Ansel Adams, who was very meticulous in his camera settings.

    I have this camera but I don’t have the lever that presses the shutter release button how would I fix that or how do I get it?

    • @eagle112800
      @eagle112800  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the lens you have. If you got a different lens it should have the lever. The lever serves two functions it stops down the aperture and helps you press the shutter release.

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Exa comes from the 1950s originally, when the first SLRs did not have any auto aperture. Exacta added auto-aperture by building it into the lens, so auto-aperture depends on which lens you buy. There are many hundreds of lenses to chose from which fit this camera; most are good quality and all are cheap.

      Anything 35mm! With this camera I like to shoot slower speed film like 100 or 125 iso because the top shutter speed is 175. Black and white since the lens is not coated.

    what are those lenses called or what type of mount is it ?

    • @eagle112800
      @eagle112800  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is an EXA Exakta lens mount. Its sort of its own thing. Here is a good article about the mount and possible adapters: vintage-camera-lenses.com/exa-exakta-mount-adapter/

    im a little confused, what do you mean by "color lens" in 6:57 ?

    • @eagle112800
      @eagle112800  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean that it has color coatings. You can shoot color of black or white with any lens, but your images usually look better on color when they are taken with a lens that has some sort of color coatings on it.

    • @riccomuerte7227
      @riccomuerte7227 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are wrong, I am afraid. These coatings are so called anti - reflex. Their purpose is to eliminate light flares and reflexes that come from optical elements when the light breaks through them. The more saturated coatings means better protection against direct sunlight during taking photos for example. No influence on colors of an image :)

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case, "Color" was included in the name of the lens by its maker, Meyer-Optik, which made many second tier (quality) lenses for Exacta and others. It's code for being coated versus uncoated. Lens coating reduces flare as you say, but in so doing, color saturation and image contrast were greatly improved.Here, the Zeiss Tessar is probably overal a better lens than the Meyer. East German Zeiss (Jena) made some outstanding lenses for the Exacta/Exa, and they are not cheap to acquire.
