@@firazvlogs1802 I don't know whether it's because he's Asian, or because he stood up to her when she was abusing the intent of "all you can eat" by wasting food. I work for a place with a great return policy. We had to put a time limit on it and require receipts because people were "returning" things they found in the trash. Guess which "customers" screamed loudest when the rules changed?
The Asia Buffet owner was so nice and appreciative! Also, to the 1-star reviewers: don't throw tons of food on your plate if you can't eat it all. The owner really has a point there, that's so disrespectful to the chef as well as a total waste as it will be thrown away. It makes you a 1-star customer.
100% Agree, I think people are so spoilt by how relatively easy they have life these days compared to even just 100 years ago and 95% of human existence has been tough to survive. But people are mean and just like to moan loads these days
The owner at the end was amazing. People don't take their time to make good reviews but instead make others look bad. I understand how hard it is to own a business, so I feel very bad for wronged people. Thanks for making this video!
In fairness, Butte is not known for having the kindest of residents. More of the angry, drunk, Philly-like kind of people. My guess is those reviews the people downplayed what they did. I am sure they left a whole plate or something and he confronted them which surprise surprise normal American reaction to be a dick and get angry at the guy for confronting them. And the guy who comes all the time? Bro just confessed he never tips because I bet the owner asked for one because he never does 😂
i just saw the clip he was soo wholesome he refused the tip too. Kind people like him dont get the respect they need from people who are karens who post these reviews because of their ego
The only thing I can think of is some of these people were simply unreasonable. I have seen people at a all you can eat buffet do 4 plates of heaping portions, and on the final plate leave it 3/4 full with a ton of wasted food. It is their right of course to do that, but also: I am sure the issue was this KEPT happening and the owner finally snapped a couple of times due to how much food waste was happening off a $15 dinner. Could have literally just caught him on a bad day. We all have them. But he was being so kind to the child, and so kind about a single dollar tip. Some people just come in with bad energy and you know what, you get that same bad energy in return. A lot. Come in happy, leave happy.
@@NintyPrimeit's okay to make mistakes, and the owners history was kinda all over the walls. It's just obvious that he too saw the reviews and made a positive change, i know asian business owners especially go crazy over that. Either that or he saw the camera and he already knows wtf is up rn 😂
Everything that happened at the last buffet, Ryan’s reaction, review and the decoration were a reminder of why Ryan got my attention and devoted follow in the first place. He is extremely sweet and considerate, he’s extremely open minded and even tho the reviews are to help us, his videos remind us to not have too much prejudice and give people a chance. Thank you so much for doing what you do, you have raised an amazing fanbase with videos having extremely sweet messages. Ryan is the type of person that I’m happy that the internet have a platform and relevance, cuz né definitely knows what to do with it and deserves it.
As someone who runs a small business that gets a bunch of 1-star reviews from people who have never even received our services, I deeply appreciate Ryan doing this video and his message at the end saying not to fully trust negative reviews.
Im so sorry that people do that! You probably work so hard on your buiness and people are just bringing you down by saying those reviews! I am really sorry you are so sweet and I hope you have a great day! Also never look at the 1 star reviews by those people they just want attetion
Remember, not a lot of people take the time to leave a good review at good service. But most people don’t hesitate to leave a bad review if it’s the opposite scenario. Amazing video Ryan!
Yet most places have above 4 rating with many in the 4.5 - 4.9 range. When a restaurant has a lot of reviews and the average is below 4, that's a red flag to me.
wow the ending was surprising and literally the opposite of those one star reviews, the owner didn’t want to take a $20 tip and was so kind to Ryan, and he was giving cookies to a young kid which was so wholesome. Amazing video 🔥
The fact that Oliver Tree is in a cheap Chinese Buffet alone, getting the lunch special in a comically oversized suit is so on brand for Oliver Tree. Love it.
youve literally completely changed my perspective on what other people think. "you never know until you try" is the living statement of this video. ive always been a pessimist but i guess having some genuine hope doesnt hurt
Every single Chinese and Asian buffet I’ve been to genuinely has the nicest workers and owners. They do put up a lot of those signs not to waste food cause sadly there are ones that’ll waste an insane amount of food and treat it with no respect. I worked at a Chinese buffet in college and let me tell you, it is very stressful for the owners and workers. Always be kind!

New Panda Buffet is obviously an ex-Pizza Hut. Re: Asia Buffet, it's all you can eat, not all you can take and waste. Buffet places sometimes have to ban locals who make it their mission to take/eat/waste enough to exceed the price they paid with food cost. I don't blame him for banning people who think all you can eat is a challenge to be won by ruining the place. BTW: Thank you, Melanie.
I went there after work. had mud on dirt coming off my boots. already tipped $5 or something like that, that same guy demanded we give him more money for very minuscule amount of dirt on the floor, i couldn't even hardly see it.
@@kaiswain7334 honest question, have you ever worked at a restaurant? We are here to prepare you food, not to clean up after your dirty boots. Restaurant workers work insane hours, and I can’t tel you how little I want to mop up mud at 2am after closing a 12 hour split-shift. Next time, keep a spare pair of boots in your car or just go through a drive-through if you’re hungry directly after your shift. It’s kind of just basic decency not to track dirt into someone’s building, whether that be their home or place of work.
@@kaiswain7334 Wth, do you really not see a problem with going to someones place and making everything dirty? Americans seem so incredibly entitled, everyone around them has to bend over to fulfill their needs. Here you would ask if you could even come in dirty. I can't say anything about tipping, as that is reserved for exeptional service in my country. But I heard you guys tip around 20% regularly, 5$ doesn't seem outlandish for an meal. You do have to keep in mind, that it took someone maybe 20 min sto half an hour to clean after you, 15$ per hour is around the average in the US I think, so you drained more than the establishment gained from your tip.
....Umm yeah that's called ILLEGAL THEFT committed by the restaurant. If you "ban a customer" because they "ate a lot of food" after LITERALLY DIRECTLY TELLING THEM THAT $12 WILL ENABLE THEM TO EAT UNLIMITED FOOD then hmm guess what?? You have STOLEN from the customer who EXPECTS TO BE COMPLETELY FULL WHEN THEY LEAVE because YOU LITERALLY DIRECTLY TOLD THEM THAT THAT IS WHAT THE MONEY PAYS FOR. A fucking idiot has commented above!
Those signs that say "only take the napkins you need" or "eat all you take" are actually FANTASTIC and I really mean it. I'm actually surprised there are people who get upsed by that and complain about the owner who just wants to prevent wasting food
why do we have to live like those squity people when they live in a country that has little food were in america. F the asains and their rules thats why always leave a bad review for those fers
I’ve only been to a buffet a few times but when I went I only took what I thought I would eat, if I wanted more I could always go up and get more. I didn’t even consider loading up my plate, it just seems like basic decency to not waste a bunch of food. I bet the people who said the owner got mad at them left like a whole plate of uneaten food and then argued with the owner.
It's pretty normal for Asian buffets to have some kind of clean plate policy to prevent excessive food waste, but as you saw it doesn't mean every crumb. They typically aren't gonna chase you down for one cookie. I suspect that those 1 star reviews loaded their kids plate with stuff they didn't like to try and force them to try it, and then the kid left almost an entire plate of food behind and the parents got mad when he expected some reimbursement.
@@brandonaston301Because in buffets you typically serve yourself, they only make the meals not the portions. So typically you’re expected to know how much you can eat and so if you take too much its on you.
The last place you went, the Asia Buffet was so wholesome, that man seemed just the nicest person and they seemed so overwhelmed with the large tip. I bet you made their night. I hope that others follow suit and they get more business thanks to your video and review.
I lived in Florida for a while where a small hole in the wall buffet got some seriously bad reviews about how mean the owner was. A group of my friends went there to see just how bad it was, and while we were there a waitress fell dropping a huge tray of food. The owner came running out looking terrified shouting, "Are you OK? Are you OK?!" with the most genuine concern. He helped her up and began cleaning up the mess by himself. When he walked away my friends and I just stared in shock at each other. How the hell did that place get such a crap reviews about the owner? When we were done we asked to speak with the owner and he was extremely nice to us. We offered to tip him and his waitress (the one who fell happened to be the one refilling our drinks) and he legit said, "Just give her my tip, she's had a rough day". I don't take reviews seriously at all because I get the feeling that 90% of bad reviews come from trolls and Karens.
I live in Montana, and last time I was there was 2018, the owner has been very nice for a long time, and I even remember leaving food on the plate, I was there with my family, sending a friend off to Basic Training for the Air Force. The one star reviews are more than likely from people who just see the bad in things
Butte, MT resident here. Asia Buffet is a go-to spot for me and my friends! The owner will absolutely speak his mind if he doesn't like a customer's behavior, but if you treat him right, he'll treat you right!
As someone who works customer service, I honestly give him props for that. Some people need to be refused service, it's sad but true - and I've had way too many bosses who bend over backwards for customers who had the staff crying in the break room.
I have a feeling that a $1 tip is generous compared to the crazy 1-star reviewers, who probably left like a penny since they were already mad at him for asking that their children finish the food they wanted to force them to eat. These people, man... these people...
The owner giving cookies to the small child was so nice to watch. The owner seems like a really grateful man. I respect him for being a conservationist.
I agree. I think its so wasteful to throw all that food out/take more than you need. I remember when I was a kid, me and my sister went to our first buffet, and took a ton of stuff we would never finish just for the heck of it. My parent's scolded us, and told us how wasteful that was. We didn't mean any harm, but I'm glad they raised us like that. It's disrespectful to the owner of the establishment. You're throwing their money in the garbage for no reason, and you can always go get more.
@@donnerschwein I hate to break it to you but gracious people have bad days. I use to give people free stuff in food service and still remember instances being overtly rude. People are grey, not good or bad. Maybe they caught him under stress.
Bro is a master of recording his video and his surroundings amazing dude absolutely naild it! and also the last resturant touched my heart too! hope their business grow well
He was so nice and it makes sense that you don't want people wasting your food especially at a buffet when you can waste tons of food. Owning a restaurant of any kind is really hard.
When their kids go for the 5th plate yet only eat a bite and leave a whole plate to waste.. he might be a bit more annoyed The karen parents then take it as personal insult and complain - as a result getting banned for life / thrown out. They then write a 1 star review saying they got banned for life, overexaggerating and liing.
@@ForumcoldiArchon I have legit seen this happen in a local Asian buffet (not the one in the video, but similar setup) and the Karen mom absolutely *refused* to pay for the three plates of food because here precious angel "just didn't like anything. He didn't eat it so I'm not paying for it." The police were being called when we paid out, no joke. Never did find out what came of that.
Honestly, it was really heart touching when people said the last owner was rude and greedy but in reality he was one of the most selfless, nice, and warm hearted people ever. It really touches my heart, seeing there's still people like this in the world, and it genuinely restored my hope in humanity. Whoever's reading this, i hope you have a good day/night :)
My girlfriend and I were sitting here watching this video saying “It would be funny if he came to Montana”. We were even talking about the Asia Buffet specifically. That’s insane, I always heard stuff about the place but I never believed it was true. Haven’t been in there since it was first opened but very good to see how nice the owners are.
Owner: Has a bad rep for nickel-and-diming people and unfairly banning them from his restaurant Also owner: *Possibly the most wholesome guy in all of Montana*
I think either their was a change in ownership or something happened, because if you look at the reviews on google there are endless reviews from 5 months to 1 year ago (anything from 3 months are good) of the owner constantly chasing down people asking for 1-2 dollar tips banning them if they dont pay, telling familys with kids they wont be served, and getting on people for leaving food on plates. I get there are some people who intentionally leave bad reviews, but they all range the same time and they all share a common root problem and that is tipping and banning customers. I'm not sure if who we saw in the video is the same guy, or perhaps a new owner 🤔.
If you've worked at a buffet, you know exactly where those reviews come from. A family of 5 comes in 3 kids running around screaming throwing food making a mess, they all collectively leave literally 3 lbs of food on the table untouched and then leave without tipping. Hes probably a nice guy that doesnt let people take advantage of him and being the owner he can do something about it.
i actually loved this video, ryan casually traveled across the country just to eat at restaurants that were labeled as sub par by yelp and ended up having such a wholesome experience, love the video style ryan!
Yeah it’s very kind of him, and the best part is, if these places are really struggling chances are they might see a small boost to their profits now that a famous and respectful TH-camr has advertised it and shown how great they actually are especially for that Asian buffet place.
The last dude was so sweet. I feel bad because his business is definitely affected by the reviews. This was such a wholesome video. Thank you for leaving a 5 star review. I hope others see this and go to Asia Buffet
Wait I think some other TH-camr went there just to cause a ruckus but the owner was pretty chill until he did see the owner get a bit loud with a customer but nothing crazy
You know what, after the one star reviews, the guy from the last restaurant probably did some personal development and became a better person, the fact that you actually walked in on him giving a second cookie to a child just makes this so insane to me lol
I think it's more of a parents being Karen's! I've seen kids filling their plates with big portions and leaving it bcz they cannot eat such a huge portion and also wasting food in many cultures is considered rude and bad. I'm not sure about the tipping hehe
Him walking into that last restaurant to the owner offering children cookies and telling them they can have more than one was like something out of a movie.

As a business owner he probably does get upset at left behind food cause it means someone didn’t eat it and now no one else can. He seemed very nice was genuinely grateful for even a small bit of extra money. I hope his business does well and this video gets the man the business he deserves. Too many small business are ran out by bad customers or customers expecting more than a small business can reasonably provide.
Dude, I totally understood the last one. Went to a K-bbq in Brazil, had some nasty reviews for the cook being stingy and rude. Had a great experience!! Turned out the cook just didn't speak Portuguese, but when I tried my Korean with her, she was so nice and helpful.

Not how I imagined my day, but I literally got emotional watching that dude at Asian Buffet. He was so mindblowingly sweet and wholesome. It really felt like a bit when the second we see him, the supposed devil himself, he is offering a child cookies. I’ve also never heard of this creator before watching this video, but I think that’ll be changing. I expected to see him just film some regular restaurant madness like a younger Gordon and make money off of videos of owners losing it with the „boom” sound effect added on top of it, but he actually just saw that they were cool and left them five stars. Like a reverse TH-camr, almost. This is actually really admirable, nowadays you always expect to see the worst possible outcome, and when you don’t it really makes you reevaluate why you were expecting that in the first place
The last owner seems like a humble man, humble people who own businesses like that usually pour all their blood sweat and tears as well as money in to it. He probably doesn’t like to see food wasted and I’m sure the people leaving 1 star reviews aren’t leaving a cookie or an uneaten bite of chicken, they are probably leaving full plates of food uneaten. I can understand the owners point of view.
yep, very common buffet thing for people to waste entire plates of food. That man probably knows what hardship is and what not having food readily to eat is like, he’s actually brave for asking people to not waste food, it’s admirable.
Good to see someone helping these smaller businesses. It's honestly just sad to me when I see 1 star reviews on small businesses and when somebody decides to check it out, it's so much better than 1 star, people are basically just lying in their reviews so the small businesses get small ratings.
Wait... I was in Helena Montana and went to THAT Asia Buffet 7 months ago! I know because I remember that guy. Your right has he's so nice! He deserves better reviews ❤ we gave him a tip too and he wouldn't accept and was chill when my sis didn't finish all we had to run so he could keep the $100 dollar tip 😭 this man is more pure than these reviews said

I guarantee you those 1 star reviews for the Asia Buffet were people who came in, super loaded their plates (and probably let their kids do the same), then asked for take-away containers for the "leftovers". This happens a LOT at buffets - esp. the all you can eat ones.
Honestly in a buffet in Asia it’s very common to have a leftover charge because of all that food we eat nobody does takeouts in buffets here I just have a feeling America are just very used to taking out
@@darrylkemp3253 no if he doesn’t like you the second you walk in he will be extremely hostile. A couple weeks ago a young couple with baby walked in and within 5 minutes he was screaming at them for making much noise. The mom ran out crying with her child. That’s how he usually is.

bro people are awful. they will read into something in such a negative way. im glad you are out here showing people how to be a decent person. thank you ryan for being a normal guy. :D
What do you mean he's showing people how to be a decent person? If an experience they had at a restaurant was bad, they're allowed to mark it as bad and say they had a bad experience. Nobody is evil for doing that unless their complaints are petty or over-exaggerated. Those complaints can still be truthful. A review you saw from 6 months ago might not line up with your own experience months later. Things change day by day, no one is awful for leaving a 1 star review, unless it's petty or for malicious reasons like I said earlier.

I went there after work. had mud on dirt coming off my boots. already tipped $5 or something like that, that same guy demanded we give him more money for very minuscule amount of dirt on the floor, i couldn't even hardly see it.
man i miss them pizza hut buffets
The last restaurant's owner was actually so kind! He didn't even want the 20 bucks tip, completely different from what the reviews implied.
Those signs that say "only take the napkins you need" or "eat all you take" are actually FANTASTIC and I really mean it.
I'm actually surprised there are people who get upsed by that and complain about the owner who just wants to prevent wasting food
Same…it’s what I was taught growing up. And no reason be wasteful even if things are free.
why do we have to live like those squity people when they live in a country that has little food were in america. F the asains and their rules thats why always leave a bad review for those fers
because people are entitled and think waste is a-okay when theyre not spending their own money
Hmmm
I’ve only been to a buffet a few times but when I went I only took what I thought I would eat, if I wanted more I could always go up and get more. I didn’t even consider loading up my plate, it just seems like basic decency to not waste a bunch of food. I bet the people who said the owner got mad at them left like a whole plate of uneaten food and then argued with the owner.
You always give us hope in humanity.

It's pretty normal for Asian buffets to have some kind of clean plate policy to prevent excessive food waste, but as you saw it doesn't mean every crumb. They typically aren't gonna chase you down for one cookie. I suspect that those 1 star reviews loaded their kids plate with stuff they didn't like to try and force them to try it, and then the kid left almost an entire plate of food behind and the parents got mad when he expected some reimbursement.
i also think that! sometimes people are completely out of it and think that they can do whatever they want wherever they are.
I never understood this, you pay for the meal, not how much you eat.
@@brandonaston301Because in buffets you typically serve yourself, they only make the meals not the portions. So typically you’re expected to know how much you can eat and so if you take too much its on you.

That’s honestly how it should be! People don’t realize at the end of the day when you go somewhere you’re still talking to a human being.

Tbh i think he was having a bad day on those reviews
Either he had a bad day, or the reviewer had a bad day and didn't tell the whole story why the owner did it.
I lived in Butte for a few years, that review was not a one off😆 I've heard sooo many stories of him being unpleasant

Melanie, you probably don’t even know how crucial your contribution was 🥹 You have helped one of TH-cam’s most entertaining content-creators maintain a sense of causality within the pacing of his vlog. Without people like you, Gen Z wouldn’t have known that Ryan flew from Miami to Tennessee. Thank you 😭

The owner of the last buffet was honestly the kindest man alive. Whoever wrote those reviews, they better start saying the truth. I do not get, at all, how he allegedly banned people or allegedly kicked people out.
Also thank you Melanie
Maybe he was nice because he saw the camera? But i agree, seems like a great owner
@@karinaheikerthomasen8110 I mean I guess, but seemed very genuine
@@karinaheikerthomasen8110 Or the guests were just assholes. Most of the time people who are satisfied won't leave a review. But the bad ones will.
@@Andreas16375Yep that's very true

I guarantee you those 1 star reviews for the Asia Buffet were people who came in, super loaded their plates (and probably let their kids do the same), then asked for take-away containers for the "leftovers". This happens a LOT at buffets - esp. the all you can eat ones.
Nah I live in Butte the guy can be an absolute ass if you’re on his bad side but if you get on his good side he’s a sweetheart.
@@codedestroy680so basically a normal human being then 😂
Honestly in a buffet in Asia it’s very common to have a leftover charge because of all that food we eat nobody does takeouts in buffets here I just have a feeling America are just very used to taking out
@@darrylkemp3253 no if he doesn’t like you the second you walk in he will be extremely hostile. A couple weeks ago a young couple with baby walked in and within 5 minutes he was screaming at them for making much noise. The mom ran out crying with her child. That’s how he usually is.

HI
hi
I worked in the restaurant industry for 10+ years & I really appreciate these videos. It shows that you can’t trust all reviews & that you should just try the place yourself. Oliver Tree is right, you are a legend!
P.s short king gang
Can we all just appreciate how kind the owner of Asia buffet was, despite the vast quantity of negative reviews people have put on yelp
We can
This whole video had a purpose and a message and it was to not judge books by it's cover and he made it a point to show us that so

@@daddymememaster5432 I know that everyone is awful, towards me especially, never met anyone that was nice in years
What do you mean he's showing people how to be a decent person? If an experience they had at a restaurant was bad, they're allowed to mark it as bad and say they had a bad experience. Nobody is evil for doing that unless their complaints are petty or over-exaggerated. Those complaints can still be truthful. A review you saw from 6 months ago might not line up with your own experience months later. Things change day by day, no one is awful for leaving a 1 star review, unless it's petty or for malicious reasons like I said earlier.
for last guy I'm sure they had 10 pounds of leftover in their plate to be kicked out

Cool. 😮
Bro the owner just warmed my heart so much for being so kind and rapidly refusing to take the 20 dollars instead of instantly taking it
Was the kindest man on this planet. Idk what those reviewers were talking about but I’m gonna side with the owner. They most definitely were bad customers who disrespected the restaurants rules such as not living too much waste.
@@lemonynoraThey probably were insanely rude about it, too. That's the only reason why they'd be kicked out.
@@FirepowerIGuesstrue they were probably just entitled and took too much food and didn’t care that they were wasting it instead of taking a good amount and going back for more and than were rude to the owner about it
The Asia buffet owner is super nice my grandpa used to take me there every Friday for lunch and the owner always gave us 10 bucks off but we always tipped 20
Thank you Melanie, and to be fair they take your credit card before you eat to prevent dine and dash a lot of the more upscale restaurants do that
