What I like the most about sugar apple, is that from seed to plant to fruiting it takes only 2-3 years. Thus, planting all of the seeds in containers and letting them fruit to taste the ''new'' variants and keeping the tastiest not only it's doable but it also happens really fast.
Thank you for showing this comparison. I've been googling and even asked a you tuber with a custard apple what the differences were between sugar vs custard apple. He said he wasn't sure. I appreciate you breaking this down to simple terms
Custard apple is far more coconuty than sugar apple. Though it is possible to find sugar apple with a bit of coconut taste, I actually have one, usually sugar apple don't have a coconut flavour mixed in there.
Nice review Harley ! That spiky sour sop is killer size ! Can’t wait to see what you get when you plant the seeds in a few years , hopefully they grow the same in Florida for you !
Hi, thanks for this informative video! If you can bear a little bit with me, I have 3 questions for you. 1) How does the taste of the Annona Reticulata and Rollinia Deliciosa compare to the 3 annonaceae fruit that you've just reviewed? 2) Which Cherimoya variety has the sweetest taste? The Cherimoya that you reviewed is the 'African Pride' variety? 3) If I grow an Annona tree from the seeds, would these produce fruit? I've read that Annona tree grown from seed may or may not produce fruit but I don't know if this is accurate. I am from Malta and grafting is not an options because these trees do not exists. I would like to try and see how these behave. Thanks and keep it up :)
Thank you for this video. I have friends in Florida from Bolivia and I'd like to buy an Atemoya tree for them. The only place I've found is way too expensive. Can you suggest a place that ships?
That's giant spiky soursop, omg! I would love to get some seeds from that. I just tasted my first cherimoya and it tasted like a mash-up of all the Annona's to me. Sweet, but a touch of tartness (i guess that would be the pineapple taste). The sugar apple is way sweeter than all the Annona's I've tasted so far, imo
Great video! Can you tell from your lifetime experience. Which are your annonas ranking in flavor wise? Not only this video but in your lifetime experience. I’m also wondering how good is sugar apple, because it has so much seeds that I’m not sure if I should grow them. Thanks 🙏
Thank you! I actually have a older rollinia deliciosa taste test video but the rollinia was not the best so the video is actually not the best, but I may upload it.
@@ruthmitchell9224 there are 3 different fruits, cherimoya is one one then. The other two are atemoya and sugar apple. They each have their differences hence why they each have their own botanical name which identifies them into separate species.
Loved the video. I'm in Florida, and getting my first annonas, a couple atemoya seedlings, in the mail soon. I've seen from several sources that the annona seeds are poisonous. Are there any alternative uses for them aside from planting?
Hello thanks, Annona seeds can be grinded up in a blender into a powder and can be used as a natural insecticide . Don’t eat the seeds although if you do nothing bad will happen if you accidentally swallow a few- I’ve accidentally eaten a couple of seeds here and there of sugar apple and atemoya ( like 1 or 2 ) and nothing happened - but I don’t mean to do it on purpose and if anything I avoid swallowing seeds.
Thanks! This was somewhat informative for me, the large soursop looks so much like durian fruit. I know most aren’t fans of durian but I would love fresh seeds =) That and red ilama, I wish you had red ilama..
Wow thoose are huge cherimoyas. Atleast 3 times bigger than any fruit imported here in Sweden also their typically very unripe. One of my favourite fruits no doubt. But i never tried any other fruit from this family.
My mouth is watering that was a huge Soursop! Did you end up getting it to grow here, I am below you in Palm Beach County and would love to grow that tree too. I am currently waiting on tests to see if I have cancer and have been consuming soursop as often as possible. Next I need to make the tea from the leaves. But the leaves to me smell like cat pee. 😂
Great video! Greetings from the Philippines!!! Sugar apple and soursop are well established in the Philippines having been brought by the Spaniards from Latin America during the Manila Galleon trade era. Cherimoya and Atimoya are also grown here. How were you able to bring fruits and plants from Colombia? I thought the US Customs is strict with regards to these things. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks for teaching me that information about the sugar apple and soursop being brought over that’s very interesting. I actually filmed this video in Colombia - it was not filmed in Florida. I am glad you enjoyed the video, greetings from Florida!
Well done dude. Enjoying the videos. We get cherimoyas in the market from USA as well as Chili depending upon the season. USA fruit always top notch. Unfortunately, none of the fruit from Chili are even edible. They seem to ripen up fine, but are just horrible tasting. Any idea why? This is really bad when trying to get people to try new fruits. No way will they try them again...especially when they are very expensive. Thanks!
Thank you Jay I appreciate the support. I believe from Chili all the way to the USA might not be ideal, as you have to harvest them too early to transfer well that distance- by the time they arrive here from Chili they probably don’t have much flavor due to picking them to early. This is probably why they taste horrible.
I threatened my Soursop and it finally gave me two fruits. I will be talking to it again. Because I only got one, it hid the other so well, by the time I saw it, it was on the ground wide open. 😢
They are different but I think some regions call the sugar apple custard apple. It can indeed be confusing, I just use my phone and show pictures, lol, that makes it easier
I have pawpaw seeds...they are actually better than most cherimoya....takes several years before the trees bear fruit....its not mentioned in this video, but is from the same family

Epic garden dude!!!!
Hello. Thank you for sharing the information. 👍😊👍 Cheers
Very nice video and compare and contrast keep it up
Great video! Looking forward to buying some Harley Soursop scions from you in the years to come.
Thank you, absolutely I would be more happy to share some scions with you.
Nice review Harley ! That spiky sour sop is killer size ! Can’t wait to see what you get when you plant the seeds in a few years , hopefully they grow the same in Florida for you !
Thanks Phillip I hope for them to grow in Florida as well.
Love your comparison video. The sugar apple and atemoya are mislabeled in the supermarket. Thanks for the clarification.
Thanks for your great video.
Thank you for your kind comment, I am glad you enjoyed the video.

In Connecticut where i live there a wild fruit called a pawpaw......only found by foraging...i think they're actually better than cherimoya
Que Riiiccoo Mi encanta
I have a couple of big plants that I’m not sure if they are guanabana or chirimoya. How can I tell?

Has there been attempts to make the sweet annonas cross with soursop to make them bigger?
Yes. But those attempts weren’t successful.

Que opinas de la annona grabla, ?
Inwould have liked to have seen he Rollinia (Brazilian custard apple) as well.
Thanks! Make a video about the ice cream beans
Thank you for doing this video ! Helps a lot in understanding different Annonas. Would like to see you try Rollinia deliciouso.
Thank you! I actually have a older rollinia deliciosa taste test video but the rollinia was not the best so the video is actually not the best, but I may upload it.
It is actually called Chirimoya. I grew up eating them and love their flavor. They are soft and creamy.

Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello, can I buy some of your sour fruits ? Or sugar apple?
Me too. I like soursop the most😋😋😋
I love Soursop too!

I don't think anything is harder to self pollinate than soursop

is custard apple = sugar apple?? or not???, the literature in naming these is just all over the place
In different languages custard apple can refer to multiple fruits of the Annonaceae family. In botanical terms, Custard apple is Annona reticulata.
They are different but I think some regions call the sugar apple custard apple. It can indeed be confusing, I just use my phone and show pictures, lol, that makes it easier
Very Jealous! I just moved to Bucaramanga and can only find Guanábana in the market
Update, had Sugar Apple today
Message me if you have seeds to trade. Thanks!
I have pawpaw seeds...they are actually better than most cherimoya....takes several years before the trees bear fruit....its not mentioned in this video, but is from the same family
Soursop look like big strawberrys
