The f-22, Rafael and even the f-16 ise a similar fly by wire that applies limits for its pilots, no one ever calls them “underpowered”.
Government should put the stricter timelines first, as we Indians are known to be lazy. Why it can't be delivered by 2025. Work on war footing and give all funding manpower or anything else which is needed.

Why not we do reverse engineering? I know this is not ethical but in the past so many countries do reverse engineering to develop their weapon. At least we tried our best till now. I said this because I want to see India become independent in terms of aircraft engines.
IAF thinks they are giving concessions, the fact is you don’t have the equipment in the world to buy and fit. Had GE414 been available say 20 years back, then LCA wouldn’t have been felt as under powered. If the flights are smooth, better speed also looks as normal. It’s takes years to make things, it takes seconds to comment. However, we should try to meet IAF needs not imagination. Technically, nobody meets IAF or navy needs in the world. An example is i75 submarine specs everybody backed out. Even IAF takes 20 years to finalise which is a compromise. It’s like greed not the need - other factors like political interference and corruption delays it further. I don’t accept that the combine of DRDO, HAL & ADA do not know the job, they spend 10000 or more man years to develop things which will always be higher than initial spec. Its always a stepping stone for everything. They should be made in small numbers and used for training or last line of Defense not wait for another 20 years. SO every development is welcome. F-16 / F35/MIGs/Sukois - every fighter has its own versions. So just keep making, keep using and keep improving that’s the cycle.
I think the IAF requirements are based on potential threats in the near future and how best to counter them. They want to fight with the best equipment but I agree that we should be able to fight with what we have.

IAF wants 42 sqdn by 2030. So we need both foreign and desi platforms. We have the money now, do it.
