Looks like my daily routine except I don't shovel snow, run a generator, feed chickens or dogs or even cats, do laundry outside manually, walk down to a root cellar, or even do that much cooking...but other than that, we seem to mirror... LOL

Loneliness in wilderness and emptiness ... I was in Alaska before up to Yukon Territory . Driving RV with hubby and said to myself even given free the beauty of Alaska I won’t stay there .. those three words above describe anxiety and depression.. living in sun shine all year bring joy to my life . Why need winter ? But some maybe destined to be in Alaska but not me !
THE drummer Alaska is the type of place you go to live out the last few desolate years of your life in complete solitude

we had log stove when i younger and my mom and dad would put 3 round log in at night turn the damper down so still have lots heat but burn slow and it would take all night for them to burn down and in the morning there was still hot red coal to just add some wood and bring it up in the morning , that is how we did it lol

The pair of you are so Cool,. The fact that you feed the kids and the critters first, speaks volumes. I was raised in Nebraska, however both of my parents were born in sod houses. Their lives when they were young was much harder than my childhood was. Thank God for my old folks. I can stand here today and take of myself and not rely on others. I guess things that are written in red are most important. At least it is in the Bible. My very best for you both.

Wish to go to toilet and freeze when it s winter? Wish to not shower or bath properly? Wish to not eat fast food? Wish to not have feminine clothes? When you love someone nothing else really matters?
I love the sounds of the chickens in the background, or the shovel scraping snow on the deck, or fire wood crackling, or water going into the pot, etc.
I so appreciated this video for so many reason. As odd as it sounds I liked the stillness. Stillness that comes from just showing you living your day.

I'm writing not to you kids but to those of you that watch OFF GRID LIVING video's -- I've watched over three hundred of them and I'm 80 years young and I've lived OFF GRID before it became popular - around 40 years ! - Seven out of every 10 off grid people on you tube are part time lets make a video off griders !These kids have the Toy"s I never had but you have to look not at them - you have to look behind & around them -- THE BACKGROUND - whats on the ground, walls and by the cabin or sheds to see if they really live this way or just making a film !!I'm still off the grid and like them you make mistakes correct them and move on. These kids are the real thing So Support Them !!! Yo guys warm a old mans heart --- THANK YOU Take care. I would like to see a better in-house water system - It can be done==

You have a really good and busy day from early in the morning but you manage to have fun to. All your meals looks so tasty.
Growing up in the country side of eastern europe i naturally gravitate to this kind of lifestyle, to me living in nature is the biggest luxury one can have, it’s peace and therapy

When I lived in Wyoming where the temperature was often Wei below zero, I wore two knit hats at the same time. Extremely warm head. You guys are so brave, in many ways.
This is so beautiful. And to be able to live this way. It is just amazing. I know it must be so peaceful. A lot of work but peaceful.

Every time I see a moose in your videos it reminds me of Northern Exposure, tv show, in the 80s maybe. Totally different viewpoint of Alaska.

Some people look at their daily routines as mundane ,,,,, But , When that routine changes with the seasons , it opens up a whole new perspective . Simple things . The pure appreciation for the simple things . We've all made life way too complicated .... The lucky ( read ; smart ) few of us that shed those trappings , live a much more peaceful and fulfilling life .... You've got everything you need , including each other . Well done , you two .... Ahhh, the sound of boots crunching in the snow. One of my favorite sounds. Where I grew up we got a decent amount of snow each year. Where I live now we have to drive up in the mountains for it. Luckily the mountains surround our town 😊 blessings to you!

Hello, I'm new to your channel. My husband and I enjoy watching your everyday adventures. We have lived in Costa Rica for about 3 years now. On one of you videos you were washing the clothes in a tubs. Here a lot of people don't have electricity or running water especially on the reservations. They have a washing machine that is solar powered and you fill it with a hose or buckets of water. The amazing thing is the spinner on it, your clothes are almost dry by the time it is done. I use this type of washing machine and love it. The simplicity and how clean the clothes get is amazing. We have to dry our clothes pretty fast in rainy season and the spinner on these are perfect for that. Did I mention it is made out of plastic otherwise it would rust pretty quick here. Thank you for vlogging your days.
Insanely relaxing to watch, but simultaneously makes you realize how much damn work living like this is. I'm sure it's worth it but a reality check for stary-eyed dreamers is probably a good thing.
Watching them do this stuff makes me really appreciate city living. LOL

And the texture is so soft & fresh! Even if you put the ones from store ,wrapped in plastic in a fry pan to freshen & heat, just different!

@@daisychain3007 it's not, in the summer it still gets up to the high 60s low 70s and sometimes 80s, it gets warm enough to grow vegetables. Also the midnight sun in the summer gives the plants a lot of extra UV light.

Love all of this guys! When I winterized the cottage, I did put in a washing machine, no dryer though. I was washing clothes by hand for a year, my hands couldn't handle the rinsing and ringing out anymore, I'm old! Ha! I also don't have a shower, I use the sauna, and pour buckets of water over me, and of course jump in the lake in the summer.
Have you guys considered building a sauna?

I just came across your channel a few days ago and I've been watching a lot of your videos. You're living my dream of being off grid in Alaska and growing your own food. I'm both jealous and impressed. Y'all put in hard honest work and do it very well together. I appreciate these kinds of videos showing the normal daily routine y'all have to do, to give me an idea of what's in store for when I can finally manage to do it myself. You are amazing guys . I love the we you live cook everything from what you have harvested. We retired almost three years now and I learned how to bake bread and we plant vegetables in summertime and freeze it for our winter supply. Learned a lot with your videos

A mud room would be a nice frontal addition to your cabin.. all water wet snowy and muddy stuff remains in the mud room.
Off-grid life is never ending with abundance of work everyday. I also used to do laundry by hand once a week. I have a wringer just like yours. That was one of my biggest chores for the whole week besides building our home ourselves. The average laundry time was 2 hours plus each week. Just like you've mentioned in your other video, the key is not accumulate bunch of clothes, which you have to do it more often. Your clothesline is awesome👍

reminds me my childhood in Siberia, much similar routine, wake early and all day care to make things around your self to provide basic needs. very cool. And this walking to school on -30 C for 1.5-2 km ....

it takes some serious planning and preparation to live there. most of us have this fantasy about living in Alaska.
yet, so few will ever be up for the challenge.
but imagine can make it :) it's hard work, but very rewarding :)
It's requires even more preparation when a partner is involved. Your life partner MUST be on the same page as you as when it comes to live this lifestyle. In Eric and Ariel's case, they were more than willing to make the sacrifices necessary and work together. People comment "it's so nice that you two work together"... for this life, it's essential.

Same here! I always wondered about living like this but I’m exhausted just watching this! My fibromyalgia couldn’t take the freezing cold of the mornings waking up with no heat! That said, I live in the northeast where it’s cold but at least the heat is on when I wake up! 😂

Northern Canadian here. I love these winters - the middle of nowhere in this weather is so serene because snow is an excellent sound absorber. It truly sounds silent and it's amazing. Can be a bit chilly. The two of them were sometimes wearing thin layers or not wearing their heavy coats - if it isn't windy and you're used to the cold, it feels AMAZING.

@@daisychain3007 Yes SA gets cold but im in sub tropics in Qld. I think Tasmania is our coldest state then probably Melbourne and Perth. I originally come from the NT and its always just 32c there so anything below 20c and im freezing.

Even though it wasn’t much of a fuss, glad to see Gunner isn’t the only dog who gets excite when they see other animals.
Just last week Gunner was on the bow as we were getting ready to beach boat and a winter king salmon jumped out of the water. I though Gunner was going in after it. 😂
Fantastic video series. A rocket mass heater would seem to be ideal for you as it would greatly reduce the amount of wood you consume thus freeing up more time for more enjoyable activities. Also as you hated your couch, a Rocket mass heater bench could replace it plus provide additional thermal mass.
