    You have one mistake that I faced following your guide. Before you place the screen to it’s place at the end of assembling you must cut a hole in the tape on the bottom edge near the Apple logo - otherwise your mic will be covered with tape and will be useless. Unfortunately I couldn’t take off the screen for the second time as one of my screen corners got cracked so I left it as is. Don’t repeat my mistake - find the mic placement and untape just a little to make it work. And make sure there was no glue left in the mic’s holes.

    I installed a 2.0TB OWC Aura Pro X2 SSD in my 2017 iMac 27" (18,3) using the instructions included with the SSD and in this video. There are a few minor differences between a few of the connectors on my iMac and the ones shown in this video but that didn't diminish the value of the video. The most challenging part for me was aligning the display when replacing it. I did it by myself, but it would have been helpful to have another person to assist with getting the glass edges aligned with the edges of the chassis. 2023-07-13

      @@GreatWaterCircus, the Sintech adapter can be had from Amazon. I use a similar in a MacMini, works great. It really only 'converts' Apple's proprietary interface so you can use 'M key' standard NVME SSDs. You likely do not have to go as high as WD Black drive (supporting up to over 7 GB/s) as the interface will not be that speedy. For my Mini, I picked a Crucial 1 TB drive with speeds of about 3 GB/s - and it is a HUGE upgrade.

    Thanks so much for this, a really excellent guide for upgrading a 2019 Fusion HDD iMac. I installed a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVME (using the Sintech NGFF adapter) and a 4TB Samsung 870 QVO SATA drive (using a Sabrent adapter) in mine, and it all works blisteringly fast. I also used the iFixit suction cups, Mmobiel ultra thin spudger and the Toscos screen strip adhesive kit. Before resealing the screen I laid the iMac down on it's back and booted up to make sure everything worked okay. The Sabrent SATA drive caddy needs to be mounted upside down, with the drive the right way up, to accommodate the cable.

    It couldn't be more complicated! Congratulations to Apple engineers for making this process as cumbersome as possible! I think I would rather cut out the back of the iMac above the USB ports than going through this process. I like using Apple products but their policy of making them as unserviceable as possible really sucks ... not speaking about the latest M1 models, where it got even worse.

Just because you can draw a "easy" pictures of where you think something can be located does not mean it is electrically feasible to do. It has to be located right there next to the CPU, and right next to the very dangerous power supply voltages, too. You like to fiddle with your computer's innards; Apple does not cater to folks like you. It's as simple as that. You should indeed stick with the PC platform.

    Hi, thanks for the video I used it to upgrade a late 2015 imac. I did this last week, all went well. Except I have backlight bleeding now, nothing terrible but it wasn't there before and it really bothers me now. Do you think it could be solved by ungluing and reattaching the screen? The only reason I could think of is that maybe the screen is under uneven tensions, because I can move the glow around if I apply pressure with my finger. For the rest I handled the screen with great care, but gluing it back wasn't as easy as I expected.

    I just completed the process with my iMac 2019 27 inch. Other than the last step of the taping facing is a bit confusing, everything else are perfectly matched to the Video. Great thanks to OWC. I figured, when attaching the screen back on, it is better to do with a standing post CAREFULLY. With the iMac standing up, the lower edge can perfectly align to the chassis. Laying down the iMac, it might be lead to having a small gap when angling the screen to get cable connected.

That's because the factory-installed tape is the 3M "VHB" (Very High Bonding) tape, and NOT the foam-based tape you will find floating around the internet. When shopping for replacement tape, be sure to buy the kind with "VHB" in the title. It is no more expensive than the foam tape that is a bear to remove if you or anyone else has to break open your iMac again in the future!

    iMac's fans are spinning much higher after I did this on my 2019 i5. I know on previous iMacs this was a known issue with a hard drive temperature sensor, but on these newer iMacs didn't think this was an issue anymore. I replaced the SSD as well as upgraded the spinning HDD. Is there a specific cable to double check that may have not seated back properly? I can see temperature sensor data for CPU cores, GPU, LCD and memory, as well as the NVME and HDD drives with temp monitoring apps, so the sensors appear to be working. Any ideas?

    Why do all that work and keep the "Platter Drive"?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The platter drive can be left to allow the machine to have two drives installed. One can be your system drive/boot drive and the other can be easily used as additional storage.
      Most people use the SSD as the system drive and use the platter drive as additional storage inside the machine.

    • @poweredbyowc

      One can simply go that route as well! Either two SSD's can be installed one in the PCIe slot and one in the SATA slot, or just a HDD can be installed, or just a SSD, or one of each! It is all tailored to the customer's needs and wants which is why there are so many drive configuration options one can choose from!
