Thank you for the video, this is what I was hoping to find. Our car died on a canyon road with no shoulder to pull off so we were stuck mostly in the right-hand lane. A semi clipped the back corner of our trailer and took off the water heater cover along with a few lights and the water connections. I had no idea how the water heater cover was on before so this helps. Thank you for taking the time to do this!

I use silicone for that type of work too. For some reason (maybe you have a thought on this) the industry has got a decades old love affair with that crumby (in my humble opinion) 1” cork (?) tape or whatever it’s called. Even the newer units seem to use a ton of that stuff. Great vid👍.

Great job, what silicone you use?

I can't recall but it was just some standard outdoor clear paintable silicone from Lowes. Pretty cheap stuff. Take care and happy camping. Jim

Do you know or have an idea how to replace those two little pins on the bottom of the frame that the door fits into? One of mine is almost gone. -Bob

I haven't encountered that problem before but I would use screws into each place where they used to be and then just break or cut the head off of the screw. In a pinch that should hold it in place and get you where you need to go. Jim

No experience with that i'm afraid. Just inspect the heck out of it before you buy. Jim

I can't seem to order the right size door! None of the sites offer DIMENSIONS and I have to return the door. I have spent more money in return fees than the actual cost of the door. All the places tell me that the door will fit, only to find out that they do NOT know what they are talking about. Very frustrating.

What would be helpful is DIMENSIONS!

Sorry but you replaced your door with the wrong type. Your new door is a flush mount type. You needed a surface mount door that uses screws through the skin. There are also 3 long screws you didn't have to properly mount the one you have.

It's exactly the same as the one that came off and it seems to fit perfectly. I have had zero problems with it so far. However, it's great advice to make sure that you get the right door for your RV. Thanks for the comment and happy camping.

@@fullmoonadventureclub The one you installed is for a smooth sided RV. Has the 2 little pins where the door can be removed when opened. The screw holes you filled in with calk were for the original frame that allow you to pull the lip in more tightly to the uneven outer skin on the older RVs. I ordered the wrong one as well. Waiting for the rain to stop so I can finish my new water heater install.

It looks like I replaced my old door/frame like yours and replaced it with the newer door/frame. I had the same screws on the outside of the frame that the new door/frame doesn't have. This is the only replacement my dealer could find.
I saw that you put several screws (4?) on the inside of the frame into the rv. Did you feel it necessary for a more secure attachment?
I was also curious if rain gets into that space from the ~4" screen in the door, if it does, how does it drain?

I’m so glad I found this- I own a mobile dog grooming van with a water heater and my door blew off on the highway also! I ordered a new door from the place that did the conversion, but it didn’t come with installation instructions. Do you know if there is any way for me to just replace the actual door without replacing the entire frame? I can’t seem to get the camlock off of the new door but that’s really all I need. I’m not very familiar with handy work so any info would be very much appreciated! Thanks again for the video it was the only one I could find
