This was a heartstopping moment. The way the music swells and the ringing voice over it "Mr Speaker the President of The United States." So sad that tRump did his level best to denigrate the highest office in the land.

Gone are the days ... the timing of the West Wing couldn't have been better. Our nation needs a series like this again! Could we have this back please!
Much like Florida's budget? Bartlett to Ritchie (Paraphrased)- "Your state of Florida got $12.6Bn in Federal money last year... I'm supposed to be using this time for a question, so here it is. Can we have it back please?"
I was watching the Social Network and as always blown away by Sorkin's writing and I had forgotten I had this in my itunes. I swear I teared up when Bartlett asked Mr Finney to see the Speaker. Something so momentous as a state of the union Bartlett distills it down to "I'd like to see the speaker....". I have been a fan of this show since it came out in Australia in 1999. I was watching the night (Sydney time) of 9/11. Some of the greatest television ever!!!! (The show, not 9/11)
So looking forward to hear Biden's first SOTU address. It'll be the first SOTU in four years where I can listen in and applaud instead of cringing and cursing from my seat.
This isn't right. I've been in the Capitol where the Presidents stand before being announced and entering. Behind him should be the Hall of Statutes (National Sanctuary Hall/Old House Chamber)

I love that drumbeat right after "Mr. Speaker" where you just see Bartlet standing there resolutely.
Best cold open in series history. Period! The open to the second half of this two parter was pretty good as well.
Love Charlies amen adlib, the way Bartlett walks up with all his guys (bar Josh) behind him. Great show, one of the very best.
The *GREATEST* show in the _HISTORY_ of television.
These where some of the most powerful words of the entire series. "Mr. Speaker...The President of the United States!"
Such honor of the President to request Mr Finney to announce his presence
And his prayer was so appropriate
We will soon have a new president that deserves every honor these words are meant to after the disaster of the past four years.
@@LGranthamsHeir yikes. This post didn’t age well, Heir.
I always loved the music leading up to the opening credits. On a lot of the big suspenseful episodes, the music just builds and builds
i truly miss this show. Thank you for posting.
I love when he stops to tie his shoes! Such a human moment.
My sentiments also.
And everyone waited for him to finish
Longing for the days where the US Presidency should be admired and respected...in the words of Jed Bartlet: "Can we have it back please?"
That day is today...

Thank you for that.
BRAVO!! More asshattery! You sir are a fantastic asshat!
This really was a great show!!
2:29 best part.
Love this show!!
President Biden's first SOTU address brought me to rewatch this scene :)
I'm watching this on the afternoon of election day 2020. God Bless America.
And he did.
@themillionairess I agree! And then the amazing music kicks in. God I miss this show!!!!
wonderful ..
IMO Jed Bartlet is the best POTUS ever...both real AND fictional :-)
Either him or Thomas Whitmore from Independence Day, who stopped an entire f***ing alien invasion with one speech.

Came here five minutes after AP called the election for Biden.

Let's be real man, as bad as Trump was, Biden is so senile that he's just as bad at public speaking.

2:21 to 2:34 is the best bit. It gives you the chills
I don’t consider myself a good writer, but I can relate to them working down to the very last second to get it right.
Once again it's time for the State of the Union
seriously just watched this 50 times from 2:10 and on.
Amen
You need more than growing a pair to be this cool... You need class!! Something, sadly, doesn't come in every administration.
This show illustrates what a true POTUS is, then you turn on the news and shake your head in embarrassment.
This isn't right. I've been in the Capitol where the Presidents stand before being announced and entering. Behind him should be the Hall of Statutes (National Sanctuary Hall/Old House Chamber)
Reality is over-rated.
Fiction rules.
All these people in the comments comparing this to Trump don't seem to realize Biden is just as bad at public speaking as Trump is.
A Democrat who balanced a budget???
Only in Hollywood.
A simple goggle search and you would have seen Bill Clinton balanced the budget. I'm still waiting for every republican since 1980 to cut the deficit
