I don’t use substances like alcohol because I don’t trust myself, but when my meds haven’t been working, and my PsA and fibromyalgia are giving me trouble… It can be so rough. I don’t blame people for needing something to take the edge off their chronic pain. I really think I would be the kind of person to struggle with moderation, so I’ll just never start.
I smoke 2 joints of home grown Humboldt a day the last 50 years. Perfect health. Age 70. Oh ya, retired Aerospace Engr./FAA certified A&P/pilot and Black belt Instructor WTSDA. Quite motivated and very active.

It's a symptom. If you look at the typical pattern of empires, it's absolutely a symptom. People, at the beginning, don't have the resources or time to wallow or escape anything. They're too busy surviving. Lives have become too easy and too hard at the same time. Too easy because we don't spend hours searching for food and water and washing our clothes in the river. Too hard because we think we should have it even easier with better stuff and more leisure time. And because some have hoarded so many resources and then told us this is the goal. So many manufactured pressures make mental health worse and we have the time to worry about those things. Just look at all the silly things people obsess over. Most of it doesn't matter and yet most escape into social media or YT or drugs, solving nothing and in most cases, worsening the problem. If you're on the run from bears and starving, you don't much care if your skin doesn't look like fake. You just want it to stay intact.
Just in case nobody has realized--DUIs are for more than alcohol. Dont smoke/eat/etc any other type of drugs and drive. Because no, you arent a "better driver" when youre high.
I would never had considered being sold that our societies as they have become is a healthy headspace to be in, let alone believe it normal. Sad that people turn to escapism in all its manifestations not just drugs and alcohol abuse alone.
I tried edibles for anxiety. I was hoping a tiny bit at the end of the day would help me relax into a beautiful sleep, and it did, for a few weeks, until the paranoia took over and I thought everyone was out to get me! 😂 Yep, I had to give that up. Anxiety ramps up tenfold when you think you’re a mark by friends and family. 😳

I’ve been smoking for more than 50 years and I’ve never had that experience. My wife did at first but now she can adjust her dosage quite nicely by sticking with specific brands. It’s done miracles for her cramps, etc
