This dude is one of the best skaters I’ve ever seen. Style, creativity, skill, attitude, he has everything. And his style is this crazy combination of gnarly gutter skaters in the early eighties mixed with the flying ease they mastered later in the decade mixed with the go-getting aggressive stance of the 90s Street explosion and dropped over with an ice skaters grace. How?? HOW!?

@John Frum I thought the answer was obvious... it's because nobody does those tricks anymore. He's making people want to go back to where skating originated. Not only that but he's extremely knowledgeable on who invented the tricks and when they did so. People just skate and know the current mainstream skaters, everyone can name Rodney Mullen but that's about it lol

Also he is not just improving on these old school tricks but breaking them down and combining them with a modern style. THAT is why everyone is impressed. Also the fact that he got a VCJ Powell deck that fits right in with the Bones Brigade, as he would have circa mid 80’s.

Skateboarding is about confidence and knowing your ability level. There is researched psychology behind why not wearing a helmet on a bike actually makes your chance of crashing lower. I'm all for wearing a helmet on transition, especially if it is concrete, but when I see someone wearing a helmet while skating flat it makes me feel sad. I wear a helmet when I drive to protect me from the airbag.

It's a true innovation, I bought one and it's absolutely next-level. It's incredibly light while being a relative wide deck at 8.45. This makes it supercomfy to land on, especially when you have big feet. The shape is great as well, reminds me of oldskool decks but with a lot more thinking behind it than just good looks, Andy's explanation of the shape says it all.
I predict this first run of Anderson decks will be sold out in no-time and become highly collectible. Planning on buying another one, the 9 inch model, and hanging it on the wall. It's a piece of modern art.

There are guys like Jonny Giger and Alex Rademaker that spend a lot of time recreating Mullen’s hardest tricks, and no disrespect to them because they’re great in their own right, but Andy is the first guy in a long time that seems to actually have a mind similar to Rodney’s. He’s an outsider that doesn’t care about the more superficial aspects of skateboarding and just puts everything into his tricks and skating in creative ways. Also like Mullen, he is soft-spoken and crazy humble. I hate how difficult it is for him to get noticed in the industry. Was treated as a novelty at Tampa Pro and has difficulty getting sponsored by other companies because he wears a helmet. Hoping his time to shine comes eventually because the dude definitely deserves it. Looking forward to him blowing up in the future.

in over 20 years of skating with 12 years of those skating 12 hours a day. i never really saw a need for a helmet? if you crack your head skateboarding just quit. its not meant for you at that point in time.
if you are skating a 20 foot vert then yeah, you can fall 20 feet onto your head.
but most times you wont fall on your head. its pretty hard for that to happen.
and helmets actually cause more injury's then they stop. which is the predominate reason skaters dont wear them .

anderson rips because he's an individual and he wears a helmet despite all the lame peer pressure that exists in skateboarding. it's no secret at this point that you probably won't make it into the pages of thrasher if you wear a helmet. personal safety just isn't aligned with the thrasher brand, etc.

let's also not forget that most board companies don't provide health insurance to riders. that basically means that as a pro you're kind of between a rock and a hard place: if you wear pads, it's pretty much guaranteed that you won't get into the magazines and will have limited sponsorship opportunities. if you don't wear pads, you increase the risk of injury and hence financial ruin. just try asking a pro what it's like being out of the game for 6-8 months. for a lot of riders, it means looking for another career. skateboarding is still a very, very precarious industry, which i find baffling given its global popularity.
