    I would love to see this project in other version. Metal for exemple, and also for music producer. Those desk are really expensive and we need to learn to do it by our selves.

    Awesome job! I've been designing my own standing desk and came to TH-cam for inspiration. This is almost exactly what I have in mind. One question: with these actuators, are they geared so that they remain in position? I've been concerned about getting them to a specific point and then having them sag, especially when not fully extended or retracted. One thing I'd like to do is get the perfect sitting height and perfect standing heights. Planning on building a controller using a pi pico to store presets and do adjustments etc. The alibaba descriptions leave a lot to the imagination lol.

      Yeah, these actuators are perfect for that. I was able to raise it up like half way and sit on the desk without anything moving. I like the Pi idea, that would be cool!!

      Do you get positional feedback from the actuators? Or is it just they move in one direction when the voltage is in one direction and that's that? Would I have to use timers to estimate how far they have traveled?

      @@buzz1ebee Basically exactly the latter. I would think you could program your Pi to determine position with volts over time. Since the Actuator will move at a determined inches per second with a determined volt/amp.

    Hi, great video and awesome result ! . I was wondering could this be done with just 1 Actuator sitting in the middle of a bar going left to right attached to both legs ? What Im worried is about this not being very stable when the actuator is extended....

      From a weight perspective, it could hold it. Each actuator I used could lift over 200 pounds. Like you said, I would worry about the stability of it. Maybe a single leg in the middle with some really wide feet at an angle and not as wide of a desk?

    Great looking desk, do you get any binding on the legs if there's weight on the front edge of the desk?

      Very little. luckily the width of the legs are enough that I was able to secure the legs on pretty well. I was able to lean and put weight on the foot side with little bind, but with where I secured the legs in the back of the desk, there is a little.

    sir, no doubt this is a great video, but i have a question, how can i use the slider/channels that use in the drawer to make the movement more smooth because in this method wooden parts rubbed against each other.
    if there is another way for smooth sliding please let me know. i will also make this kind of study table from my local wooden workshop

      I thought about using sliders but with each actuator being able to pull/push over 200 pounds I did not think a little rubbing would matter. I think you could take a router and inlay the slides so that you do not have a gap between the nested legs.

    Hi again! I've bought all the materials, so I'm ready to start the project! The thing is that I'm deciding whether I'll control the linear actuators with an Arduino (to switch between sitting and standing positions by pressing a button) or with a simple switch just as in your project.
    Can you tell me how much time your linear actuators take to get to your standing position height from your sitting position? Also, as time has passed, do you consider it crucial to have programmable sit/stand height buttons? Have a good one!

      My wife uses the desk and she is shorter than I am. I bet it takes her about 30 seconds to get to the right height and would take me 40 seconds. I think a button with the Arduino is an awesome idea. Go for it!!

    did u fix teh adductors to the base as well/ground i mean.
    so that they are not just loose in the legs. or are they just lifting up through there impact to the ground plate?

    Hi Dan, thats an aweome project and i realy liked your wood works especially, what i would like to ask is i plan to make a Lift project like yours, but instead of a table it will be a shelf (50 Pounds/ 20 Kg total), i worry about using two actuators because if they are not in synch or lose the synch after a time, so i plan to use one actuator in the middle, what do you think about my concern, that would help.

      After a couple years I have noticed my actuators getting out of sync. I think one in the middle is fine. Each one of my actuators can lift 200 pounds, so weight should not be an issue!

      @@zirnheltdan For 200 pounds rated actuators your table or weights on it should not be a problem but why your synch is gone after a time is maybe about the actuators didnt face the same weights on them, for example if you keep a heavy weight ( lets say a pc case) on one side therefore that actuator gets lower speed and amperage changes so inch/second on the stroke changes, maybe thats why they got outta synch, what do you think about that ? Or you think there happened another issue by time?

    Another question: Was your decision to mount the actuators upside down as a part of the moving piece an engineering decision or just happenstance?

      By design. I wanted the wire as close to the top of the desk as possible so that i could run them on the underside of the desk to the switch. After the video I did add a power strip to the underside as well so that i only had a single cable running down to the outlet.

      Yup, both ends are secured down. Probably could have gotten by without but I wanted to be sure the actuator wouldn't move around on me.

    does the whole table wobble side to side? i made a different desk and i had to add 2 stretchers just to remove wobbling on a 2 legged desk.

      Mine didn't really move side to side, I think it helped that I used 6" wide boards for feet and was able to secure it pretty well.

      Each of the Actuators I used could lift 225lb, but yeah, that is the idea, bigger actuators can lift more weight.

      You definitely could add a control system and it might have been more luck then anything but both of my actuators did move at the same pace and it has never (yet) had one move faster then the other enough for the table to be angled.

      They are not sync'ed. I did not have an issue with one going higher (or faster) then the other.

    With the actuator you have listed. Is that for a set of two or just one? I’m also trying to do a table with 4 legs. How do you think wiring would be for that?

      I think the ones in my description are only 1. As for having 4 legs you would probably want to use a synchronizer to make sure all the legs are lifting at the same time. I was going to do that myself but opted against it after I saw that the two i used stayed in sync pretty well. With 4 legs and each leg having a single actuator you have a higher chance that one raises at a different speed and then your desk it slanted.

    How are the nested legs holding up? In my experience wood on wood sliding parts is not that easy to construct.

      Wife has used it ever day for work since I made it, no issues at all. With both of the actuators combined, there is over 400lb of lifting force. To say the least, it does not get stuck.

    Absolutely in awe of this design. You are a visionary, good sir! I was wondering if there might be a way to actually bring this desk even lower- I really enjoy japanese style tables, where you can sit on the floor, so I'm wondering if there might be a way to allow this desk to come all the down to, say, 11-12 in height? I realize that this would require different actuators (which I don't know much about), so I will be doing research on those!

      I'm sure it could be done, but I can't say i know how it could be done. The issue with the actuators is it controls the height at the lowest point and the highest point. If you get smaller actuators, you could have the lowest point to 11-12 in, but then the maximum Hight might only be 20 inches. The actuators I used were 22 in (i think) and extended another 18 inches. So the smaller you go, the less it will extend.

      To lower any further than the height of the actuator itself. You'll need rotating/swinging linkages and additional horizontal or actuator mounted at an angle, to push the main vertical actuator to an angle as the vertical actuator lowers. That will force the table to go lower as a tilted actuator is shorter than an upright one. It's possible but complex and might have somewhat less payload capacity.

      I did not have issues. I did sand down the inner legs so it was as smooth as possible to reduce that possibility.

      no, but it could be done. The actuator could easily lift the desk by itself.

      Yeah, metal would be fine, each actuator is rated for around 200lb. As for syncing them, I didnt do anything. I was worried about it and thought of using two switches but it turned out they synced pretty well on there own.

    What was the rough cost of this build would you say?

      This would have been before the wood cost inflation but I think for all the red oak and the actuators, somewhere around $400 -$450 I think. The most expensive was by far the top of the table as I did not glue that up myself, I bought it at the size it was.
