THANK YOU! Of all the 1000's of DIY on Tambor embroidery yours is the ONLY 1 to actually show me HOW TO STITCH I am a professional seamstress but have been wanting to learn this. Great video great instruction
I’ve been struggling to learn but all the videos I saw were in a foreign language. Thank god I found this!! I can’t wait to give it another try tomorrow!
Thank you, thank you!! This is so wonderfully clear. It has inspired me to look again at trying this. A beautifully calm, clear and slow paced instruction. I particularly liked the o'clock descriptions of the hook movement, it really enhanced the pictoral presentation.
Thank you ever so much for this brilliant tutorial. I’ve been struggling with going in a vertical direction. Your tutorial has clarified and corrected my mistakes and bad habits. I’m slow but going at a more steady pace now thanks to you.
I’ve been looking for a new hobby and this was very interesting. I want to work with my hands and I think this would be a good choice to practice and see what I can do!
Thank you so much for a fabulous tutorial. I have just discovered tambour embroidery and cant wait to try it and especially adding beads and sequins once i master the basics
I enjoy all your videos. I am learning from them. I bought the necessary materials for the different projects. I bought the Tambour holder and the needle. I will be receiving that next weekend. Keep the videos coming. Thank you.
That's about how you are using the needle rather than the fabric Aulia! Go back to the basics of taking the hook in and out and practice this part until you can go it without catching the fabric. Organza is good to learn on as you can see what you are doing underneath as well as on top
Yes Natalie, that's right. going away will be clockwise, coming towards you will be anticlockwise. Always turn the hook in the radius outside your hand, not into the palm of it, and that should help knowing which way to turn and wrap.
I've got a tambour embroidery kit coming in the mail so I can try it out. I have a question, where you're moving the needle up and down, I see a rather large hole getting tugged into the fabric. Does that fix itself normally, or do I need to use a thicker fabric?
Hi, I'm using organza, in this case of silk but synthetic organza will work. Traditionally learned on net. You need something you can see through to start with.
We have a worksheet on this technique as well MJ which might help! It does take a bit to get your head around so don't give up! Download the worksheet from the bottom of this page here: www.sarahhomfray.com/free-stuff.html
There can be alot going on at once when you start this technique Laura, so I suggest breaking it down into smaller chunks and start by just practicing the hook movement without the thread. Practice taking it in and out of the fabric without catching the hook until you have got the hang of this then you won't need to think about this part and can concentrate on the next thing...
HOLAAA............GRACIAS POR LA TRADUCCIÓN..AUNQUE ME GUSTA MAS EL BORDADO TRADICIONAL..EL QUE NOS ENSEÑA SARAH..PERO ELLA USA MUY BIEN LA CAMARAY YO LA OBSERVO TODAS LAS VECES NECESARIAS HASTA APRENDER...CASI DE MEMORIA..HE VISTO CANALES FRANCECES CON ESE BORDADO..COMO SE LLAMA..?
Hola Ruth. Estoy muy feliz de que te gusten los videos, gracias! Si las traducciones son exitosas lo haré por otros videos también. Por favor, comparta con todos sus amigos. Este bordado se llama TAMBOUR o TAMBOUR WORK
The volume levels are pretty high on this video Elaine so just check the volume levels on TH-cam are up to max (as well as the device you are watching it on); the volume control is in the bottom left hand corner of the video. You can also turn on subtitles by clicking on the little settings cog in the bottom right of the video screen

Easy to understand thankyou mam
Really clear instructions. Just awaiting table clamps which will hopefully make the process easier. Where can I get a thread spool.
Ordinary machine sewing cotton is good to use Beverley so have a dig around and see what you can find!
Thank you so much for making this video
Im a beginner and i want to ask what fabric you use?? Because when i tried to use tambour it keep stucking :(

thanks for the amazing vedio
Great video and explanation. Please, could you tell me the name of the equipment that is holding (supporting) the fabric suspended into place?
It's a versatile table clamp Patricia, you can see them on our website here:

Thank you 😊
Thanks for giving measurements in inches
Do lefthanders reverse the clockwise, anti-clockwise directions?
Yes Natalie, that's right. going away will be clockwise, coming towards you will be anticlockwise. Always turn the hook in the radius outside your hand, not into the palm of it, and that should help knowing which way to turn and wrap.
Thank you for a wonderful demonstration!! Where do you buy the hook from please? x
Sarah Homfray is looking at stocking some in her shop. They will be available soon, we'll keep you posted!
Caroline Homfray I bought mine at Amazon

Your hook should come with some different needle sizes Jean. Do some sampling to work out the best size for the thread you are using.
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery it did and I will. Lol. Thanks!
hola Sarah me podrias decir que tipo de tela usas para el borado y si esta al recortar el bordado no se desilacha al ser corta la tela.
un saudo

¡De nada Rosa!
I am using an organza and the hook keeps catching the previous bead thread then all of the beads just pop off 😢 it’s driving me bonkers
What fabric are you using?
