Well, here it is, the project I’ve been working on for about 7 months now (woulda finished sooner but I had a fulltime job lol).
I’ve been a fan of Lera Lynn’s music since I heard it in True Detective, but after reading Legends: Darkstalker, I realized that a lot of her songs would fit really well with certain Wings of Fire characters. Especially this one, the lyrics almost seem made for Clearsight and Darkstalker.
The first set of lyrics are more from Darkstalker’s point of view, and the second from Clearsights. The lines about ‘twisting on the rack’ really work well for Clearsight, because for her whole life she was wound up with Darkstalker, she could never escape her fate as being his lover. All she knew, her whole life, was worry and anxiety from seeing the futures where Darkstalker became a cruel and terrifying king. This became so normal to her that, when he was finally buried and she was free from him, she felt unusual. It felt strange to be untangled from his life.
I took a lot of care into making sure the details in this PMV are as accurate as possible, from the time of day it is when certain things happen, to the material the stage is made of. During the scene where all the dragons are fleeing the Night Kingdom, most of them are random, but if you look you should be able to see a few familiar faces there ;)
I couldn’t have done this project without my good friends brokebackbromance and mercurybird . I excel in anatomy and character design, but when it comes to color theory or landscapes, I fall short. Thankfully these two amazing people teamed up with me to handle the parts that I wasn’t good at, and the resulting product looks absolutely phenomenal.
I may upload each scene on its own on DA if there is enough interest for it! Then you can see the details more clearly~

GUYS I cracked the code! The lyrics describe every scene of the ending of Darkstalker: Legends!!! Alright, listen up:

The one where you fly and I don't (where Clearsight/NightWings/Fathom/All Dragons continue on into their futures while he's put to sleep and can't)
A kiss holds a million deceits (The sleep-charmed bracelet "holds a million deceits")
And a lifetime goes up in smoke (Clearsight and Darkstalker's future life goes up in smoke because of the turn in events)
This is my least favorite you (Clearsight about Darkstalker)
Who floats far above earth and stone (Thinks he's the most powerful animus and is evil and is invincible, etc.)
The nights that I twist on the rack
Is the time that I feel most at home
We're wandering in the shade (The NightWings fleeing their home and "into the shade" AKA the dark volcano island)
And the rustle of fallen leaves (Arctic is a "fallen leaf" because he was killed (tear of mourning))
A bird on the edge of a blade (Foeslayer is the bird on the edge of Diamond's blade, ready to kill her as part of the enchantment)
Lost now forever (Clearsight is lost to Pyrrhia because she escaped to the Lost Continent)
My love, in a sweet memory (Darkstalker's "love for his tribe and Clearsight and his powers and life" is now just a memory because he's been put to sleep)
UNTIL BOOK 8 DUH DUH DUUUUUUUUH!!!! (Sorry, spoilers)

The nights that I twist on the rack
Is the time that I feel most at home
(this part is speaking about how Clearsight has been having all of these horrible visions of Darkstalker for pretty much her whole life. She's used to the bad visions now, they make her 'twist on the rack'. A rack is a torture device
The visions have become so normal to her now that they make her feel 'at home'. Hence her worried expression when these lyrics play. She feels strange now that the dark futures are fading, because that's all she's ever known.)
Also the part of 'My love, in a sweet memory"
Is referring to Clearsight talking about how her love for Darkstalker is now nothing but a memory, but you were close ;)
Oh, yay! I got all of them right! :D This song is so fitting! It’s amazing how well it tells the history of Darkstalker!
Darkstalker legends in a nutshell:DARKSTALKER WHY!! YOU HAD SUCH A PROMISING FUTURE! THIS IS SO SAD!
Alright, as an artist myself, I can understand how FrEAkinG lOnG this must have taken to create. The details in the background are so amazing! Your art style is beautiful and so detailed! The lighting in all of these is perfect, and even though there isn't any tweening or animation it feels like you can see the characters moving! Did I mention how beautiful the mountains are? Props to whoever helped out with the landscapes! The part where the futures in which Clearsight and Darkstalker have dragonets fade away is really neat and really sad at the same time. I love how well that part was timed with the music. The scene where Agate mountain collapses is amazing as well, you can really tell how sad Clearsight feels.
One thing really unique about this video is it shows the aftermath, the nightwings fleeing the kingdom, Arctic's dead body, Clearsight flying to the lost continent. How beautiful and detailed this PMV is has me nearly crying.
I have a lot of respect for you, and how much patience you must have for taking this much time to create this masterpiece!

Yeah I agree, my friend Kenzi's work on the backgrounds and lighting really brought all the scenes to life! I'm glad you could feel the emotions I wanted to portray with Clearsight watching the mountain fall, thank you~
I always felt so sad about Arctic, he was forced to kill himself and then his body was just..... abandoned there when everyone fled. I'm sure no-one in the Night Kingdom gave him a proper burial, and no Icewings could enter the kingdom to do it due to Darkstalker's spell. So his body probably just stayed right there where he died :(

You're welcome! And I agree, it is really sad how Arctic died in such a gruesome way, and of course everyone was too terrified to notice his body was just laying there, and no one in the ice kingdom would have cared about his death anyways. Another sad scene in this PMV that I didn't mention would be the one where Foeslayer is in the ice kingdom about to be stabbed by an icewing (Queen Diamond?), and then become stuck in the diamond trial to be killed over and over again for the next two thousand years. This video really emphasizes just how sad the end of Legends: Darkstalker is.
So anyways, thanks again for creating this beautiful video!

Originally I had a scene of Fathom and Indigo with their dragonets there instead, but I wanted to show what happened to both Darkstalker's parents. Plus the 'blade' part in the lyrics seemed to fit Foeslayer's situation more, so I chose that scene instead!

Darkstalker is my favorite book in the series so far and his and Clearsight's relationship has always been so interesting to me because I love the concept of fate and I think you did a good job portraying their intertwined destinies as lovers. I just want to say that this is amazing. I've never seen anyone else on the internet draw WoF dragons with accuracy so near the templates of the dragons given in the books and on the covers, and it's refreshing as well as breathtaking to see scenes from what is probably the best book in the series brought to life like this. Amazing job 🐉❤️

I always wonder if they ever buried Artic and if not it would have been cool for them to mention his bones like on the stage or near it. Like this.
“Turtle glided in the eerie stillness of the fallen kingdom.... _the palace is huge! This must have been wonderful in Darkstalkers time_ then something caught his eye. Something that looked ghostly pale in the moonlight, he slowed down and swooped towards a broken down stage with what appeared to be and icewing skull on it, the rest of the dragons remains where scattered bones around. Turtle felt his stomach twist inside, as if it wanted to tear itself out at the scene. _Is this...Prince Artic?_

Yeah about 5ish months, because I have a fulltime job so I wasn't able to work on it as often as I wanted :
Oh my god this is just so beautiful....I am almost crying right now. I do lots of pmvs myself, but honestly never before have I seen a WOF PMV so detailed and beautiful as this one. It's timed prefectly, your attention to detail is astounding, the faces show emotion, and the song fits perfectly. You nailed it on the light of the candle shining on fathom's scales...personally I don't think I'll ever get glow effects to look that good...XD also not to be morbid or anything, but the position of Arctic's body on the stage (slumped and limp) looks very realistic. The night sky where you show the moons also looks like a photograph! If you are interested, I have a wof map I will be hosting in a while (after my current one is done) and the map is AMV/PMV...would you be interested in joining once it's open?

Yeah, I think the ending of DOD could have been handled another way but, personally I don't have much of an issue with how things turned out for him. I just wish he would have chosen it for himself
