ODYSEE IS NOT OWNED BY GOOGLE Some of you may have done some searches on the web and realized that Google bought a company called "Odysee" seven years ago, along with the Odysee.com name that THAT company also owned. That company was quickly dismantled and hasn't existed since 2015. The domain odysee.com then became available again and a couple of years ago, the LBRY company bought the domain and created Odysee.com. Google has absolutely nothing to do with LBRY or the Odysee site.
There was a recent case where an Anime TH-camr had 150 of his videos deleted, because one anime studio really did not understand the concept of fair use. After some back and forth, with the help of someone in YT, they eventually got it to where his content would be blocked in Japan.
Fair Use gets soooo many channels in trouble. It's the reason I rarely include video that I don't own in my videos, and I never include music that's not mine unless it's CC. It's just not worth the headache of constantly having my videos demonetized due to background music.
Hey @@DistroTube Same I'm using Epidemic Sound (so I'm well licensed) or transformative (which is a double edged sword..) and using Royal Free Footage (if needed). But TH-cam has censored me in the past on my german channel and never ever explained me why. Since then I'm uploading on Rumble. And I'm thinking about Odyssee but I'm not sure which is better. Especially for a german audience... oof 19:00 sounds like a roast to me xD - gonna change that DT I promise!! Love your vids and your clear standings on isses. Whether I agree or not your presentation is awesome and no video ever was a waste of time for me. Btw I use Garuda :D
I really can't wait for youtube to have competition. TH-cam literally has commercials now--not ads, Sometimes whole 2 hour movies. But what really upsets me are the copyright issues and random bans/rules for people. I can't count how many times my favorite creators get their channel deleted or banned, then only after a huge uproar by viewers do their channels come back. It's not healthy to live in a constant fear that your channel is at risk because a couple videos uploaded years ago fits some sort of new rule or fits some sort of 1 second copyright claim that you can't resolve because its both frivolous and you are pleading to robots that default to the claimant.
but what do they do. they dont start pushing there people away from youtube. they come right back to be abused again. for those not even pennies on the doller revnue.
I also can’t even watch educational videos without having comments being deleted. I tried to explain that sine and cosine is more than sides of a triangle on related video and comment gets deleted. Same thing on space videos I watch.
More creators need to just double post their content on Odysee. Even if you make your living on TH-cam, you can help create a better Odysee because you'll be adding your content. You might even make some more money but at least you are contributing. I am following you on Odysee as well so I thank you.
I remember when TH-cam was non commercial, and everyone was just doing this for fun and for the passion of sharing whatever they were passionate about. The commercial aspect has been good and also bad.
I sort of remember those times too. I would watch a guy named SirRonLionHeart play kaizo Mario and other Super Mario World romhacks, and I would comment on his videos without needing an account or login.
@@magicimaginations Or they get bought out, and the company bought them goes on a mega power trip. You know Google and TH-cam are owned by Alphabet Inc.?
I had another channel back in the day, and met some of the loveliest people in the world. It started with a core group of about 12, and we each grew over the course of time. I'm still friends with some of those people.
The ad-network itself is the whole problem. Black rock through its network of investment interests who effectively fund YT, for all intents and purposes own youtube and dictate its stakeholder policies to them. Donations are the only way forward if we want to put an end to the cancellation of wrongthink in the eyes of the corporations.
I'm not convinced advertisers are the problem. There is a serious problem with corporations trying to go woke which might cause them to put pressure on TH-cam to go woke too. I don't think they are going woke to make more profit, it's at the ideological state for them now. Disney for instance definitely don't care if they go broke as long as they can show how woke they are. TH-cam the same. Women singing about their pussies is in fact woke because children are influenced to think about sex, grooming children is woke, it may also be profitable but that's no longer what corporations are interested in. They want to promote all the left wing values or at least the trendy ones we have now.
#Ads are obviously the problem for the general internet but the path cryptocurrencies are going is not so hot. I'd argue the music is about to stop. Why not create infra to give & accept cold hard cash? Oh wait that's Curiosity Stream and Nebula. But not so much as your giving upfront for content that may or may not be created or may be not awesome...
I don't think the ads are the problem, TV can run ads even if they show controversial stuff. The problem is woke politics and wimpy management from youtube. If youtube said "you can stop advertising if you like but if you advertise you will go on random videos", do you think companies would really lose that huge marketing space? The only reason they do it now is because it aligns with youtube's vision and they get away with that.
I'd prefer to see all this zelousness focused on removing the hundred of thousands bots scamming people rather than seeing content creators punished, but I'm not going to hold my breath...
TH-cam is so dumb sometimes, i got a warn from a video that i posted 13 years ago and was hidden, for being offensive, in those years that content was pretty common and i didn't even remember the video .
You killed me with "punanner-nanner" 💀 I've never heard of Odysee until now, I'll definitely be checking it out. I too am so tired of YT recommendations. I got an add-on that redirects TH-cam to TH-cam subscriptions page just so I could avoid the bulk of that mess. We need something better than TH-cam. I just looked. Odysee looks great, and I'm actually shocked to see that quite a few people I already sub to here are there too!
Odysee is great as a peer-to-peer media platform. No one can ban you from uploading videos through there so it's great for creators. Even if you use YT a lot, it's always good to keep up with Odysee and follow folks there, especially those that have accounts both here and there and who occasionally eat bans on this platform.
Admittedly, most of the known quantities there use it as a backup platform with a few hundred or thousand subs. But in the past year it's already been growing noticeably.
@@mgh7634 No one can ban from uploading ... Yet. I am a big fan of LBRY, but not so much of Odysee, since Odysee looks very much like it's going the same path as TH-cam does (with the algorithm and stuff). It'll only take some time and increased popularity until they also start with the ads there. I wonder if LBRY would stay unaffected by Odysee changes, but well... Only the future will tell.
@@Zayel00 yeah, fate of every centralized service. For now, it's not a big problem on Odysee, but to adress it permanently, we need to use decentralized, self-hosted, open source stuff.
Basically switching from TH-cam to Odysee is kinda similar with the way people look at windows and linux, it will really take a lots of work for this platform to be Recognized
It's much easier than outright switching your OS though. Creators can automatically upload to Odysee and users just have to go to the URL. The only limitation of Odysee are that it's maximum 1080p atm. Also, they give you a bit of LBC actually to get started and when you watch videos.
The problem is the way social networks are created, they don't respect the viewer's time with their recommendations, they don't respect the rhythm of the creators by pushing mostly those with daily uploads, they don't respect "natural" formats by imposing times for adverts (which is why most videos are about 10 minutes). All these policies along the platform's handling of bans are creating a platform for mediocrity, modern marketing teams that fill the platform with boring TV content make the platform as bad as modern TV, which doesn't help. About windows, MS stated that their competition is Facebook, Google, etc. so they run Windows like it's a social netowrk, they measure engagement with different parts of the OS, etc. this makes the OS behave more and more like a giant billboard with old internet style pop-ups all over, forced full screen interruptions to show new features and annoy you into getting one drive, office 365, use Edge and an MS account, then once you are in you have the security notifications, the update notifications, the other apps notifications. And office apps offer their own set of pop-ups (it's hard to focus on your work when office apps have 2 or 3 "helpful hints" when you open them, even after 25 years of use. So, I have moved a computer to Linux at home, that machine has no office and no annoyances, it just does its thing. It's great and does not have all the BS interruptions Windows 10 has (11 is only worse). I'm waiting for Valve to release their Steam Desk OS so that I can install that in the living room PC... We shall see for the others. At times Windows is worse than web from the early 2000s without a popup blocker.
Yes but the user experience is not as straight forward, for example, it took me a while to figure out how to stop a video from playing. Also there is a serious lack of content - right now
TH-cam treats content creators as less than bugs beneath their feet. But even bugs can bite. I hope karma--and justice--catches up with this careless, indifferent "big tech" giant eventually.
They let large creators get away with a lot worse shit than ya think. And then punish smaller creators harshly for much more tame mistakes. TH-cam's own management needs an overhaul.
@@ThePC007 It has 4 now, but I only see 2. What does this mean? Are they hidden because someone reported those comments and they're being investigated?
I said that this would happen a few years ago when they tightened up the monetization rules (ie decided to keep more money for themselves). I was told that I was nuts. There was nowhere else for the creators to go. I say that everything is replaceable. The biggest hurdles might be Google burying searches for such a site and/or not allowing an app on the Appstore. I do hope that another competing platform can make it.
6:39 thank you for saying that YT is not a public space. many people don't want to know that & use YT & other privately owned social media platforms as those would be an actual social public square & are "enraged" that the companies owning those platforms just do what it pleases them. as long people hang on to that illusion, there is no chance for trully publicly owned platforms.
There is likely no chance for public platforms as it stands. There is no political willpower for it, and there is no funding for it. Unfortunately, we are stuck with youtube, twitter, fb, ... because people are happy with those services and don't actively want a public replacement. Hell, Americans can't even decide if they want a general public healthcare program.
But there is also a size factor. At some point something is so big and popular that public or private doesn't matter, too many people involved, and to anger them is bad idea, even if you are private.
@@peterbelanger4094 so you think a monopoly is the best thing that can happen in a market, cause then a monopoly is as big as they will respect the wishes of their consumers ?

LBRY is great, it is decentralized by design. Odysee has the same fundamental issue that TH-cam has. But the big benefit of Odysee is that it is just a front end for LBRY, so it cannot abuse the network effect as TH-cam does.
LBRY being decentralized doesn't mean much. If you run the app; you're being used for their parasitic hosting and lose privacy. Odysee controls ALL comments. Shadow banning on youtube isn't near as bad as the censorship on Odysee, you can still find stuff on youtube if you look hard enough.
This is exactly what I expected (and hoped) to happen. I told many people to stop asking government to get in the way of big tech doing stupid things, because them being stupid is the main reason they have growing competition, and we'll be better off that way. As a Napoleon wisely said _"never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake."_
@@sociolocomtsac which is irrelevant to what I said. I also was on many now-defunct sites, until I wasn't. Either way, the reason I'm here is because my sound card is dead and YT is the only one with auto-generated subtitles.
big content providers that are temp suspended on YT should continue to release videos on Odysee or elsewhere while they are suspended, that would go a long way towards popularity of alternatives
Sadly I have 100K subs and I only get like 100 hits on a story now since TH-cam blacklisted me and I lost my income. I had to start over on Odysee and Brighteon. It's a slow grind to find new viewers.
I’m also getting commercials after only TWO minutes of viewing, and if I scrub forward in a video, they shove another commercial in front of me. I don’t mind the advertising - but after only two minutes? Terrible. Borderline abusive!
TH-cam is definitely changing something because this is the 1st time I'm seeing your videos! I've been recommend a lot of new channels FINALLY! Also, we small creators don't have the capital to get away with breaking rules.
The key to that issue is solidarity amongst content creators. If you organise yourself and put another platform on the map, It will only be a matter of time until YT comes to the table for discussion. If they want dictatorship, let's give it to them
In my experience, the ones that complain about the commercials are the ones that wouldn't donate to support the channel anyway. Some people just want to take and never give.
It’s the same complaint with censorship.. people conflate censorship with unrelated discipline… I’ve also seen videos up where content creators will conflate censorship with copyright.. I just think these false flags are antithetical to real issues of censorship… it’s basically the concept of the boy who cried wolf…
Man… you are so right on your comments. We give the power YT yields. They are just exercising it. But if one gives, one can revoke… Time to really commence a mass exodus to alternative platforms. Seriously. Viewers will eventually follow
Maybe TH-cam needs to be renamed as CorpTube... They used to be laser focused on the "You"; now they seem to focus more on Corporations than they do individual content creators.
Oh wow, as a newer channel, I quickly run out of space for archives. It is awesome that they can sync these videos, so valuable for a creators workflow! Thank you 🙏
You have to be pretty big to make decent money off of TH-cam. Demonetization is purely a big TH-camr problem, but let's face it: big TH-camrs are important.
Thanks for letting me know about this. I had no idea that there was another platform like TH-cam. I just checked it out and I can see the great potential for this. I stopped even bothering with Bitchute a long time ago because it's all political and angry people without any real general content. I searched for subjects I like to watch on Odysee and found a bunch of vids that I can watch. I truly hope it grows and TH-cam dies. I 'm sick of their censorship and all the BS..
All alt-tech has the impossible to eliminate problem that it will attract those shunned the most. We simply have to accept it, if we want censorship free platforms. Another unavoidable problem is that as platforms grow, they usually become more censorious. We are in a loop of running to another platform every 5 or so years. I believe the only way to avoid that are decentralized open source services, impossible to control and cenor by a single decisionmaker.
The interface on odysee has massively improved and the content so much better for being open unlike YT which is quickly becoming good for dog and cat video lovers.
I am surprised this video is still up lol. Thanks for posting this! It also shitty how they are starting to do things behind your back like like the whole shorts thing where they automatically checked everyone's videos and continue to mark the box when you upload that allows people to use and make money off your content unless you uncheck it!! I agree as well.
Guys, this makes no difference, when everybody made the move over, they will be canceled there too, because Odysee belongs to Google, it was acquired by Google on Feb 8, 2015. Same crap different pile! Don't believe it? Research it!
My best suggestion is upload to multiple platforms like your Facebook page, Instagram Reels, Rumble, Pateron, your own WordPress site and so forth. The more you diversify, then the better you're off. So the real issue is not diversifying your content on several platforms 🤔 and backing up your videos on your own cloud base system or systems. If you're looking for ad revenue or sponsorship, then add them and get the checks directly. Is this extra work? Well it depends if you know software programs that can help automate this for you like IFTTT 👍🏾😁💡
Right now, it is kind of like the chicken or the egg. Content creators post on TH-cam because viewers flock to TH-cam but viewers flock to TH-cam because us content creators post on TH-cam. What it would take is just to take chances and switch to platforms that we have faith in which will cause more people to come over due to their favorite creators being on that new platform. There also isn't really and good alternative either. Yeah there is Odysee but if everybody switches to Odysee, then we would pretty much be in the same situation that we are in now.
LBRY is a peer-to-peer video platform, so there are no central servers and anyone can create their own front end as competition to Odysee with the same content on it. That makes almost impossible for people to be banned from LBRY.
What I love about odysee is that they have successfully manage to charge the content creator to provide content. So first you spend a huge amount of time making your video, knowing that its viral success is a total gamble, then you offer it to a platform that is only alive because you provide them content but now you also have to give them money in exchange for helping them exist
It takes so little effort to upload to Odysee. It would be nice to see the bigger tech TH-camrs do this. Marques Brownlee, Linus Tech Tips, Mrwhosetheboss, Pocketnow, The Verge, Engadget, etc. Why not? It could help the platform gain traction and could spark a broader tech community interest. They are unlikely to drive their viewers to it as the open source and crypto creators have, but simply having the Odysee link in their video descriptions on TH-cam may bring along some of the curious bunch.
Thanks!! Checked it out, signed up and will visit there regularly from now on. I don't like all the ads on yt, and as an 80 year old pensioner cannot afford to pay the money they want, I needed to find something free. I use Linux and haven't used any ms products for over 10 years now. At my age, I have become a rebel!
I agree with you 100%, not too long ago I gave Odysee a try as a viewer, results…… it’s so far behind TH-cam as a platform that it’s not even funny. Thank you for your great videos !
Its because they do whatever they can to not have to pay their creators. That means conjuring up strikes when a creator gets a lot of views. They froze every channel I created because my affiliate marketing was supposedly in conflict with their own ads and sponsors.
Do note that Odysee doesn't automatically import videos longer than 2 hours. I watch a youtuber who stops the livestreams before the 2 hours mark, so they get imported automatically to Odysee, and sometimes starts a part-2 livestream around 5 minutes later, to continue while still getting that content imported to Odysee.
I've found with TH-cam of late they are not showing all the sites I set up for notification of new vids. It is like they are censoring what I can watch now!
The problem i have with Oddysee is buffering every five or so seconds. I can run full HD on TH-cam and not once does it stop or buffer. I tried to watch this video on Oddysee and it just constantly buffered. I tried Chromium, chrome,Firefox, brave and all had same results and im using Arcolinux as a distro. I have a good solid internet and IT & communication is my profession. So yes we need to see Oddysee excel but they need to sort out their streaming issues. Keep up the good work DT.
TH-cam hasn't been the same since Susan became CEO in 2014. I'm honestly tired of their identity politics and them using those politics to run the site poorly. I swear TH-cam started going downhill once Maker bought Blip in 2013 (Even though they were an MCN on YT) and shut it down just 2 years later after being bought by Disney. Personally we need to grow these alternative platforms, a good chunk of my friends have opened their minds to these alternatives. This amount of censorship that TH-cam has been pushing in recent years has made think if they start banning my fave creators from YT, I ill drop them completely. What additional features would you add to Odysee, DT??
Yes... they are. When TH-cam implodes upon itself with it's double standards and hypocricy... there are several choices of platform and multiple income advantages available, they pay more than TH-cam percentage wise and the content ownership is retained by the creator if I am correct about the legalities of it...
Odysee is pretty great. It DOES have some limitations. First, unless your channel is fairly large -- I forget how many subs, but if its a new channel you can't automatically sync content. Bummer. Second, the video quality is very limited. I make VR gaming vids, and I need to render different versions that don't look nearly as good -- bearing in mind that VR videos have a LOT of motion and need a very high bitrate to look clear. Still, Odysee is a realistic alternative, even if it still needs a lot of work for certain kinds of content like mine.
Great show! I have been preaching this about you tube for a few years to everyone I speak to . Being a supporter of free and Open source including Linux of course I am glad you have taken the time to make the community aware of this. I hope this message starts gaining traction with other creators too. You Tube is cutting it's own throat. A Mass Exodus is what is needed to help make ODYSEE the next (Chosen land) .
I've been thinking about this for awhile...a good alternative to TH-cam. Maybe I'll leave to check into Odysse a bit more to see the overall content to see what I can find of value.
This is a really great and informative video! Had no idea about Odysee and wish I knew! Think you should have had a little teaser at the start at the video about the "Syncing" that exist between these two social media platforms. That is mind blowing and all TH-camrs should know this fact! Thanks so much for letting us all know about this!
The only gripe I have with odysee is in fact that I can't sync youtube channel to odysee because I have too low of subscribers. Odysee would win if they allowed me to do this. For now I have to go to both sites 😒
Recently I had my first strike on YT for something that was talked many times. Somehow my video is dangerous but for other channels is ok. I appealed and almost instantly I've got Yeap it's dangerous. Weirdly fast that was.
Just one question: You mentioned one advantage being so that TH-cam wouldn't have the only copy of one's videos there is, and so they would have a backup. Don't content creators keep the copy they initially uploaded on high-capacity storage hard drives of their own? A quick perusal of NewEgg finds a good 4Tb for under $100. (Internal HDD for a tower PC) That'll hold hours and hours of 1080p video in mkv or mp4 files. And then it's still in the physical possession of the content creators without their having to depend on any third party to hold it for them.
External drives are becoming cheaper but they haven't always been that cheap. It depends on how long they have been uploading and how they are archiving old footage. We are at a point that buying a NAS or large external drives is a reasonable option.
@@ZachTangen Linus Tech Tips has done several videos over the years on upgrading their NAS or adding new ones. They recently add another 1,000 TB NAS to their storage systems. They have a number of NAS boxes with 45 drive bays each. They have something like 2400TB of videos spread across and duplicated on multiple NAS. They don't even have all their old videos, because some were lost when NAS boxes crashed. Most YTers don't have the skill set or would not want to be maintaining multiple 45 bay NAS boxes.
@@javaman2883 yes, a large media that has several channels, films in 4K, has more than 40 employees, and is likely working on several videos at a time will require more storage. Anyone that is recording in 4K will require more space. Though OP does call out 1080 specifically and because of that I'm guessing they are not talking about large media groups. So I guess I'll correct my original statement because of this exception. Based on LMG, a user should have no less than a redundant 2 exabyte NAS and they don't have backup if they are using any less. The amount of space required, at minimum, doubles every year.
Thanks DT, I looked at lbry ages ago and had no idea how much of a viable alternative it had become. Time to start going through the channels I follow and add them on Odysee!
Is there an Odysee mobile app for Android? I mainly use my phone to watch TH-cam and I still do not own a Pinephone Pro unfortunately, so it would be pretty useful for me to have a mobile app for Odysee.
@@TangoEchoAlphaUK Huh… Viability is mostly for the channel to assess. Odysee is not viable because very few channels in the world can afford to not to be supported by ads. Contrary to what Derek says in the title and thumbnail, no content creator _leaves_ TH-cam for Odysee. None. Also for you as a viewer: welcome back to buffering like it’s 1999 ! 🎉
@@ArnaudMEURET yeah, buffering is quite bad on Odysee, unfortunately. And I tested their app and it was not good as well. It even got my camera pretty hot for some reason. Uninstalled it as soon as I could.
I got my channel deleted too while not even violating terms of service, appealing did nothing. TH-cam really needs to do better on this one otherwise creators will eventually go away.
I´ve had videos blocked by YT just because where i was shooting out in a particular street, there was a copyrighted music playing out loud somewhere....this is outrageous.
Maybe a solution is to have a fee for creators to use TH-cam to host content. However, if TH-cam charges a fee, it would exempt that creator from the rules they have in place for the free to post content. By paying a fee, the creator would retain control/ownership of their channel and agrees to be responsible/accountable for all their posts.
Its great to hear that it is so easy for creators to upload to both, but is there a way yet to automatically check which channels I am subscribed to on youtube also post to odyssey?
LBRY/Odysee has fallen out of favor with me over the past year or 2. The content delivery infrastructure is lacking, resulting in constant buffering, at least from my connection. The TH-cam sync has also been limited to channels with more than 300 subs, so anyone starting a new channel will have to manually upload to Odysee for the first bit as well. I noticed that about the time the Odysee site came out, the connection between content creators and the LBRY team went downhill fast, and with the SEC suit ongoing, they've even stopped publishing the Roadmap, laying out the planed growth for the next year.
I still think it's the best alternative. Or one that has the best potential. Because it effectively is censor free, and because it started to grow quite fast, it was the target number one. If it survives I think it can grow and become much better.
@@sambell385 I can only notice the buffering issues on Odysee with freshly uploaded videos now, and that is to be expected (even TH-cam does this with the 360p resolution limit for the first 10 minutes of a video being on the platform). Other than that, we now only need an iOS app and big creators like Linus Tech Tips, PewDiePie, Markiplier, Marques Brownlee and others syncing their TH-cam videos to Odysee (the AVGN is there, he's a big guy on TH-cam) and Odysee can finally flourish, while we leave TH-cam to rot in their own incompetence.
8:03 "but you don't get recommended that stuff anymore..." Maybe YOU don't, but I get them every time. I practically never get recommended big music or movie channels. It's based on what you typically watch.
Odysee really needs to get it's video file size down though. It is massively inflated compared to TH-cam. But OK if you use the mirroring I guess that point is less relevant, however the problem with mirroring is the people would still come to YT to watch initially. Odysee has to become the FIRST place to go to. I'll make that change today with DT and a few others.
Big issue on social media are also the mods who put in their own politics instead of doing their jobs unbiased. That's why we need Odysee so we can speak freely without being censored. TH-cam could have build a block function along time ago so people don't have to see what they don't want, but they want to keep pushing the moneymaking (ad selling) channels in your face, even when you don't want it. Thankfully Odysee has that functionality and therefor nobody has to be bullied, just block on move on :) Another thing I've noticed is that all these people who fear freedom of speech have dictator tendencies, scary people who see themselves as the good ones..
I can't imagine anything in life that I'd do with the expectation of getting paid without a prearranged agreement of what you're doing and what you're getting paid.
Hello Distro Tube I just found your channel on TH-cam and subscribed. I have noticed some of the channels, I watched are gone. I've only been watching TH-cam for just over a year now. So everything is new to me. I find this as alternative to the TV and Radio shows. Thank you for posting this Video.
TH-cam comments are atrocious (even MKBHD explained this). I will comment rather long and normal comments sometimes and they will get deleted, but spam comments won't get deleted. I'm going to consider signing up for OdySee. Love your content DT! 💜
Yes, they shadowban you if you write any truths that the elites do not want to get spread. You can see your comment yourself, but no one else sees it. I hope people would get active on trying to get people in their circle to move to alt platforms, or at least start to use those in conjunction to TH-cam. This will get much much worse in the coming years. I think even Orwell couldn't have imagined how bad it will get. Odysee is great, it's not perfect, but it's getting constantly better, and there is no censoring.
Yeah, I've had the same issue. Case in point, your reply has a comment but I don't get to see it. I've also often gotten notifications from people replying to my comments, but when I click to view them, it turns out they're gone. And they didn't even say anything inappropriate or anything.

is youtube sync still working for odysee? Because I see youtube has blocked rumble from syncs. I just made odysee and trying to sync 500+ youtube videos and its been over 5 days LOL. So at this point, I dont know if it is because of so many files or if it blocked by youtube and not doing anything. cant see anything until the process is done, and its not ending or showing percentage of load.
To give Odysee the traction it needs, big and small channels like this, LTT, Fireship and so on, should educate their viewers about the downsides of YT and the different alternatives that exist out there. That way, we can reach more people, and LBC crypto is one of the few that I have seen that has an actual real-world use case.
Just logged into Odysee - forgot I had setup on there, likely at your past suggestion? I setup notifications so I can see the videos from the people in TH-cam jail. Great tip!
8:34 - Hits the nail on the head. You bring the views, you make the moves. You can be outright harassing people and encouraging violence, but...at least they weren't encouraging it with file sharing.
It might be ideal until individuals and companies start having lawsuits over material that is being used on Odysee. The company will then be forced to go the same route as TH-cam or shut down.
i'll disagree, the day is finally coming where both companies and users comes to a agreement that we need them and they need us, and as long as we don't organize boycotts or trash other companies they'll let us do fair use within a reasonable means
Thank you for making the video I just created my account for my reaction TH-cam channel, I love how they allow you to sync it with your TH-cam channel so you don’t have to reupload everything. But it seems really dope I am very excited that there is finally a platform like this!
Allowing misleading fake movie trailers without showing dislikes or a description that the trailer is "fan made" for pure click bait is what really drives me nuts.
Thank you so much. I just synced my channel to Odysee. I am a small time hobbyist producer still ticked at YT for kicking hobby producers like me off of ad revenue.

ODYSEE IS NOT OWNED BY GOOGLE
Some of you may have done some searches on the web and realized that Google bought a company called "Odysee" seven years ago, along with the Odysee.com name that THAT company also owned.

Same. I really look forward to content by Kenny so I've been wondering what YT had hit him with.
Rule #1: Don’t identity yourself as a Republican or they will try and kill you, other than that you’re fine.
but what do they do. they dont start pushing there people away from youtube. they come right back to be abused again. for those not even pennies on the doller revnue.
same thing happens to my channel in 2015, the worst thing i had started getting subs, after it happened i just quit, YT does need competition
Yha most my comments get shadow banned. I can see it as I got two accounts.
I've been wondering this myself is there a downside to say using the sync feature and using odysee, rumble and youtube together

The only reason they do it now is because it aligns with youtube's vision and they get away with that.
we all know its not Blackrock who own youtube but DARPA which is Public Funded.
@@evelioguaperas It is a problem, People left TV for the internet and they turned the internet into TV.

What's the name of the add-on?
Thanks!

Is it Free to have like Yt ?
I am surprised this video is still up lol. Thanks for posting this! It also shitty how they are starting to do things behind your back like like the whole shorts thing where they automatically checked everyone's videos and continue to mark the box when you upload that allows people to use and make money off your content unless you uncheck it!! I agree as well.
Guys, this makes no difference, when everybody made the move over, they will be canceled there too, because Odysee belongs to Google, it was acquired by Google on Feb 8, 2015. Same crap different pile! Don't believe it? Research it!
Not the same company. Read the pinned comment.
I hope they all leave... tired of censorship.
Those guys have exclusive deals with TH-cam in the form of "None compete clauses".

I agree with you 100%, not too long ago I gave Odysee a try as a viewer, results…… it’s so far behind TH-cam as a platform that it’s not even funny.

Its because they do whatever they can to not have to pay their creators.
That means conjuring up strikes when a creator gets a lot of views.
They froze every channel I created because my affiliate marketing was supposedly in conflict with their own ads and sponsors.
No matter what I do , I never can get many views.
They’re probably doing this temporarily due to lack of storage on their backend since they’re probably so new.
This only applies to stupid or lazy creators that don't care about their viewers and just spam upload 2 hour of useless garbage at a time.
@@MC2738 No, this is intended to combat stupid and lazy creators who refuse to properly edit their content.

I have a good solid internet and IT & communication is my profession. So yes we need to see Oddysee excel but they need to sort out their streaming issues. Keep up the good work DT.

Personally we need to grow these alternative platforms, a good chunk of my friends have opened their minds to these alternatives. This amount of censorship that TH-cam has been pushing in recent years has made think if they start banning my fave creators from YT, I ill drop them completely.

Yes... they are.
Yeah hopefully it will be evolved into a powerful competitor to TH-cam

If TH-cam drops/blocks/cancels your channel, I'm dropping TH-cam...
Because fires, floods, hurricanes, etc have never destroyed all of a persons belongings? 🙄
Got warning then a strike with 2 videos taken down for breaking youtube policy. The videos were FIFA 23 gameplay
Thanks DT, I looked at lbry ages ago and had no idea how much of a viable alternative it had become. Time to start going through the channels I follow and add them on Odysee!
It’s not a viable alternative
@@ArnaudMEURET It is for me if the channels I want to watch are on there!
I've been on odysee for years and it's great that my content is backed up somewhere else.
Yes that would be great
Great video, I just wanted to ask is it possible to upload a video onto TH-cam then to Odysee ?
Its great to hear that it is so easy for creators to upload to both, but is there a way yet to automatically check which channels I am subscribed to on youtube also post to odyssey?
Thank you setting up a few channels this weekend. Syncing was the deciding factor
They published this year roadmap and they already implemented two of the objectives: android app and ads on the site
@@juzujuzu4555 it’s junkie come on now ! it ain’t nowhere close to TH-cam they got 20 years to catch up to TH-cam😁
@@ANGELRA Oh... I posted a comment earlier that it won't take long that they'll implement ads on the site. Didn't know it was THAT recent, holy S.
Tbh in Luke Smith’s case I’d just assume that he went back to the woods or something
Yeah. He's a weirdo, that Luke 🤣
Hey DT! Just wanted to say that this is a great video with the new odysee app that launched a couple days ago, great work!
I've been on Odysee for a year, finally this is happening
Hey I was wondering if you can give an update on how you’re liking it! Thank you!
Well one way would be to unionize the TH-camrs, failing that closing your account would resolve the prob definitely…
Thankfully Odysee has that functionality and therefor nobody has to be bullied, just block on move on :)
Another thing I've noticed is that all these people who fear freedom of speech have dictator tendencies, scary people who see themselves as the good ones..
Yes! Get the word out. The video syncing feature makes it super easy!!
People speaking my language are leaving TH-cam too, but 'cause of another reason. Peace to all of us!
And where are you going?
To Stone Age :)
I can't imagine anything in life that I'd do with the expectation of getting paid without a prearranged agreement of what you're doing and what you're getting paid.
Then you'll never own a business. There are zero guarantees in entrepreneurship, no matter the market or industry.
@@Luthiart that's a horrible analogy, no business owner would go around performing their services in hopes someone would pay for the service
Hello Distro Tube
I just found your channel on TH-cam and subscribed.
@@ThePC007 It was my comment. You didn't see it probably because this platform hates me.
I used the word Shadow.
And behind that word I used the word ban- Ned. I guess that's too much for them.
The level of C€.ns... O ring is pretty much the same as it is in the country with the great wall and dragons.
@@juzujuzu4555 Yeah, it actually reminds me of that specific country. Scary stuff.
is youtube sync still working for odysee? Because I see youtube has blocked rumble from syncs. I just made odysee and trying to sync 500+ youtube videos and its been over 5 days LOL. So at this point, I dont know if it is because of so many files or if it blocked by youtube and not doing anything. cant see anything until the process is done, and its not ending or showing percentage of load.
I synced my channel yesterday 320 videos
To give Odysee the traction it needs, big and small channels like this, LTT, Fireship and so on, should educate their viewers about the downsides of YT and the different alternatives that exist out there. That way, we can reach more people, and LBC crypto is one of the few that I have seen that has an actual real-world use case.
Doesn't like some recommended videos in his feed but does he use the do not recommend channel/not interested options??
Bless the day I found your channel and subscribed.
This is the first time I heard about odysee but I'm open to see what it can offer..and upon checking.. THEY HAVE A DISLIKE COUNT BUTTON..
This is how progress happens. TH-cam has dropped the ball and Odysee has a chance to pick it up and become number one.
I had a paranormal channel that the big G erased a few years ago with no warning. No strikes, no complaints, just erased for no stated reason.
Rumble is where freedom loving patriots are. It's perfect for FOSS. Also the t-shirt I bought has holes in it after 3 weeks of use. Not sure where I should have said that. I like the coffee mugs. Thanks for all the instruction on Linux.
Thanks for bringing this up
I didn't know until you spoke about it
Now I sign up onto Odyssey and consume content on both platforms.
