Anytime Corny wants to do a big assed, multiple hours omnibus of Jerry Lawler's career in detail I'm all ears. The King seems like he has a career that earns the nickname King if anyone ever did and I'd love to hear Jim tell as much as he could.

These longer formats are where Jim _really_ shines!! When there's time for Jim to report the facts & figures from each show/program but still allow his mind to wander for few minutes on each city or venue for unique behind the scenes stories... that's the good stuff, that's what hooked me originally years ago on Corny's interviews/podcasts
I was lucky enough to grow up in Memphis in the 70's. I saw all the things Jim is talking about.
You were lucky ! I grew up in Lexington Kentucky but I was born in 78 so I missed a ton of the good shows by a few years then . I did get to see a few in 85 though .
@@Brando-Lee3725 I was about 10 years old when they unveiled Dr Frank. He was in a big crate that would move around a bit, and emit growls and groans. When they opened that crate it scared the crap out if me. The studio crowd went insane. Today's "wrestling" doesn't even compare.

One could easily make the argument that Jerry "The King" Lawler as having the greatest career in the history of professional wrestling.
We could've said that because the man is a legend. But McMahon took him and made him a weasel, easily sidelined Jerry's career just like he's down every wrestler he didn't create mostly. Long live the King and the Mephis territory.
Love that Corny knows more about Lawlers career than Jerry does.

I was born in the early 90s so the only experience of the king I had when I was younger was his heel commentary with JR. I knew he was a wrestler back in the day but it wasn't until I started using the internet regularly that I learned how legendary his career really is. I hope more younger fans take an interest in wrestling history so the old guard get the respect they deserve.
I grew up in Memphis in the 70's, and every Saturday morning, TVs were tuned to wrestling to see Jerry Lawler, heel or face, didn't matter.
I’m the same born in the early 90s only seen his commentary in the attitude era. I know he wrestled before but didn’t know how big he was in Memphis. Which why A&E biography needed to be 2 hours instead one hour.

Random cornette related thing: I went to my first indie show the other day. There was a manager running around in a sparkling purple suit and a tennis racket looking like Willy Wonka and Jim had a science baby.
I used to love it in Memphis when the guys would piledrive each other on the concrete floor! Back in the day, that was a stretcher job or the guy would be out injured for weeks...
I don't why I keep thinking Jerry Lawler looks like Brian Wilson in that fan art lol.

Being from Alabama I never knew the history in the state which was cool to learn but hard to listen to the way Jim says "Montgomery" ...... We pronounce it here like "Muntgumrey"
My father was a buddy of Mr Sam Bass from Jackson TN right down the road from the greatest wrestling promotion of the 70s and 80s. I vaguely remember meeting him bcuz I was so young at the time. Corny's podcast is the only wrestling podcast I like and how he continues to keep the Memphis wrestling memories alive for future generations to know wrestling's best territory from back in the day.

Jim Cornette and Brian Last should do a Conrad style podcast where they cover an individual or event. The possibilities are endless.
It's a twin lens reflex camera, as opposed to the more familiar single lens reflex type. I used to own a 2 1/4" Yashikamat.
I wonder how it would've faired if we went back 50 years in time and offered season tickets for all 50 shows per year at either the Louisville Gardens or the Midsouth Colosseum at the prices that Jim mentioned: $125 for GA, $150 for loge seats, $175 for ringside.

The Cagematch database is scattershot when it comes to a lot of wrestlers, but it reveals something Jim didn't mention. Many of Lawler's earliest matches involved traveling to St. Louis to work as a jobber on Wrestling at the Chase.

Hey Jim,this is the Professor whom you met at Lawler's bar n grill at the 2017 Hall of Fame night.......As a King historian,it was cool to see the Coliseum and Channel 5 highlights, to hear Lance Russell, but that's where it ends..........No in-depth look into his feuds with Bill Dundee, Bockwinkle or Austin Idol.Nothing on the Empty Arena match with Terry Funk,nothing on the Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl from 1979,the AWA World title quest......they could've mentioned Lawler was Randy Savage and Curt Hennig last opponent before going to the WWF.53 years in the business to get only 45 minutes was too hard to see.........Jerry is more respected for his announcing duties than anything he did in Memphis, but I thought finally they would tell his story right.Great work as always Jim,continue to keep the King and the legacy of Memphis wrestling alive and well!!!

Jim I’m from Memphis Tennessee born & raised the only good 😊 memories of my father & mom’s Dad getting along was when The mid South Coliseum had wrestling matches head lined by Jerry The King 👑 Lawler back then in the 1980’s early 90’s CWA & USWA / PowerPro was like 👍 a way of life especially on the weekends but the Saturday morning live recordings at WMC5 NBC on Union ave was the Hype and people lined up around the building for the tickets 🎟️ for the show that was 1st come 1st serve I’ve watched almost every match from 1989 to 1999 and went back to Terry The Hulk and Sting 🦂 and the Warrior and Midnight 🚊 express and The Pain maker with the Dutchman vs Jerry Lawler Memphis was the attitude era before THE WWE & now Wow 🤩 Memphis own Al green vs Jackie Fargo

As popular and as knowledgeable as Jim and Brians shows are . maybe just maybe enough up and coming wrestlers listen to this show and take his advice and bring back actual wrestling in the next few years . At least elements of that with a modern twist . One can hope anyways .

How Lawler started in the business is told in his book. It's obvious JC didn't read it or he would've known the whole story.

I always thought Lawler had one of the best careers when he was wrestling. By the time he became a color commentator, he became the biggest pervert the business had ever seen. I respect Lawler for what he did in the ring, but as a person that'd be debated.

I've watched for over 40 years. I'd say he's the best. Started watching Memphis about 81, and I've never seen better. I saw him live last year. Never took a bump, still by far best match on the card.
