  • Sky News host Rowan Dean says the BBC has admitted the electric vehicle market is “collapsing”.
BBC economics editor Ben Chu says EV sales in the West “are down” and people need to buy “a lot more” of them to hit climate targets.
“Just as Australia and Chris Bowen are rushing ridiculous legislation which will force dealers to try and persuade you to buy an EV,” Mr Dean said.

      Hi Boris,
My exact sentiments, your 1 litre, represent years of engine development certainly 114 years, when Mr Ford built the model T in 1909. Further developments in performance and size and efficiency in manufacturing resulted in the engine you admire. To fully appreciate this marvel in technology we must go back even further, perhaps some 13,000 years when we as hunter gatherers, started farming, and learned about minerals creating metals.
The EV engine was born from this same DNA that gave you the 1 litre engine. Sure, it's electricity, not petrol, but its purpose is exactly the same, that is, to power a vehicle carrying you to wherever you wish to go. In just some 20 years, not 114 years huge technology strides have and will continue to develop. In merely 5 more years, range, price, efficiency, power and convenience will way surpass anything a ICE could ever do.
Sure there's issues, as there was in 1909, I for one wouldn't want to give up my horse, for this noisy smoking contraption, but we eventually put our horses out in the paddock.
Enjoy the ride, you will never experience it again in human history in motoring.

No, it won't. Infrastructure won't support a significant increase in EV use. That's not specifically EV infrastructure - that's roads and bridges, electric grids, daily schedules, logistics...
EVs require massive amounts of electricity that some municipalities cannot provide. EVs cause significant wear on transportation infrastructure, requiring more frequent maintenance and repairs. EVs take considerably longer to charge, and can't go as far on a charge as a comparable ICE, making them infeasible for people's daily lives, long distance traveling, and commercial use. When considering California's mandate to switch to electric freight haulers, consider that towing a heavy load cuts your electric range by half - and naturally, all the loads are heavy. Long haul truckers in electric trucks will have to stop every few hours to recharge their trucks, significantly increasing delivery times.
Somebody had the "brilliant" idea that using electric school buses could somehow generate extra electricity that they can feed back into the grid. Their idea is that, since school buses don't run at night, they could drain their batteries back into the electric grid at night, thereby providing extra power for the area. Except, that leaves the buses without power to pick kids up in the morning. They'd have to be recharged...off the same power grid you just emptied their batteries into.... And I think that perfectly sums up the average EV believer.

On top of that, EVs are _not_ better for the environment. Not only do you need to mine toxic metals to produce them (using gas or diesel-powered mining equipment), they also require large amounts of petroleum in the manufacturing process. Most municipalities also get their electricity from natural gas or coal. The heavy weight of the vehicles wears out tires faster, putting more chemicals in the air - and the increase in tire production to compensate means more chemicals needed to produce tires.
And once the batteries or cars themselves are worn out, there's extremely limited methods for dealing with the toxic metals.
I used to be on board with EVs. I was planning to start making my own EVs. The research I did into sourcing components showed me that it was not viable. Unless you're in the luxury market, EVs are not a financially stable business model. "Economy" EVs would still be prohibitively expensive for the average consumer. After five years, I gave up entirely. Even selling ICE cars to fund the EV business is out the window now, with the EV mandates and looming bans on new ICE production and sales.
EVs must stand on their own, and let the market determine their fates.

EV sales will go up in 2025 with price parity, they are getting cheaper and cheaper. Also we have run out of all the easy oil, it'll only get more expensive here on in.

I just read a lot of the comments. Most of you probably never drove an ev or owned one. Or a good ev for that matter. And this news is very biased and aggressive. I’m Chinese and I work overseas. I respect the culture of the country I’m in. I admire and want to learn from the westerners and be respectful at the same time. Cheap Chinese cars? lol it depends on how much the car is. That’s what determines the quality. There’s a lot of knock offs. But why would a company wanna embarrass itself and fuck its reputation to the world. China has mature manufacturing lines. And Australia doesn’t. Because they never were known to be a country famous for manufacturing products except maybe natural products like fish oil. Ev is very nice. You can’t just say something is bad when you don’t even own one. And I’m not saying buy China ev. I have a Mazda cx5 and a model 3 and I love both. But the model 3 is more fun tbh. That’s just me.
