@kryan318 I'm using a number 2 hook. Lol, I know how to set the hook.... I swing into some because i know the size fish this lake produces, and I've have.way to many fish come spit it to not set then hook at least a little hard. I appreciate the input tho.
@@trippyfishing666 i think if you slow your swing, down, you will find that you hook more fish on the drop shot regardless of the size of the fish. it gives the hook more time to rotate and grab. its just a suggestion to try to maybe help increase your hook up rate.
I have found with my featherlight casting rod (medium lite fast) I have better results with a slower side swing or just a reel set ( 7:1 speed reel) this winter on Shasta (haven't fished Whiskeytown this winter). As other mentioned maybe gives just a bit of time for the hook to rotate up.?? Just a guess but what works for you is best.Tight lines.
@DL-lf2vd I use the vmc spinless dropshot hooks. They always point up. I also use a drop shop specific rod. I just set the hook too hard. I do it all the time. I even have a past video where specifically say im gonna try not to set as hard even tried some reel sets and still miss some fish. It could also be them not fully taking the bait, as in the second fish I missed. it just stole my bait. Also, it could be panfish. This lake is littered, and they love dropshots. Thanks for the input tho.
I made plans to go there tomorrow (Saturday, January 4). However, this video was very helpful in my changing plans to go to Shasta Lake. Congratulations on getting the skunk off of your boat.👏🏿👏🏿🎣
@fitcwebb clear water amd it's a lowland resovor so lots of grass for them to hide in. Whiskytown just is a tough lake in general. Bass have tons of bait to eat. It bluegill population is outrageous. It has times its better then others.
That is a very tough lake, I got my PB Spot from there in January, we went on a Friday and camped 2 nights left on Sunday...I got an 8lb 1oz spot on my second cast with a jig then nothing for the rest of the trip!!
@billreed7503 you're not smart. If you pay the boat launch fee, you can use the boat ramp. Make sure you say hi next time you see me at the ramp. Oh and it's a KAYAK not a conoe. Duuuuurrrrr

try going to a #2 or 4 drop shot hook especially in the winter dont swing so hard, just try a soft lift and reel set

What is it that makes that lake more challenging than some others? Is it just water temperature that is almost always cooler?

Keep on trying out there man you will catch a pb spotted bass out of that lake if you put in the time
