One year carrying a j frame. Started with a s&w 60,then 37 airweight. Today a 340m&p joined the work force. I'm sure it will go the distance, I'm still young. Thanks for your videos! Very helpful!!
The Gold Dot 135 gr Short Barrel .357 is the best load ever. Definite reduction in recoil over a full house, but still good performance. I got 1,137 FPS on average in a 2" barrel and it expands and penetrates well when I ballistic tested it.
J frame is the only gun I really can carry in any environment. Tuxedo at a wedding, Pocket carry mostly at work, even tucked IWB with an ulti clip while working out. Fantastic gun.
You’ve gone through a bunch of different revolvers. The fact that you (and other YTers) keep going back to carrying this particular model has convinced me this is the pocket revolver that stands the test of time. I will be getting one soon. Thanks for the update, and keep up the good work!
You know I’m a big fan of the J frame, glad to see some wheel gun love. I carry my 442 often because it’s just easy and it works. In the pocket, ankle or on the hip. It all works and the best gun is the one you train with and carry. The 2 pound gun is often left at home cause as I get older I get lazy and enjoy the comfort of the air weight
I have to J frame revolvers I have a model 638 - 3 and a model 340 M&P I would recommend either one for everyday carry it'll get the job done and that's all you need
Love my S&W 642 air weight .38+p , I CCW it in a DeSantis or my Remora pocket holsters , this is an excellent pocket carry gun! I installed the duty carry spring kit and it’s like 9lbs trigger pull which makes it very shootable . With defense rounds this gun will handle business inside of 21 ft very well . Even John Wick used this snub when on his back ! 😜🤩🇺🇸
The 442 was by far my most carried firearm. Light and easy to conceal, plus I shot it well. Recently the cylinder release lever fell off, somewhere on a motorcycle trip. I'll fix it but I've decided that it has done it's service and I'm replacing it.
Sweet! I agree: It's nothing to sneeze at. It's a shame alot of agencies these days no longer authorize it. It's just so classy & easy to carry, plus it really requires you to train w/it, & we all could benefit from more trigger time.
Yeah most off duty/back up guns are like G26 or M&P compacts or whatever their micro version is to their full size. But there are still some agencies out there that authorize small framed revolvers for off duty/back up.
I've considered just carrying 2 j frames at this point for most situations. It's enough gun, no reload, and if you need to hand an extra gun to some then you have it
I did the double j-frame thing for a while. It's an excellent option for the two-is-one kinda person in the winter when getting to a belt holster would be difficult.
I switched to a LCRx 38 with the bantam boot grip for full time carry here in AZ and I'm never going to anything else. Love that little gun, replaced my 638 that I carried for years. I carry the gold dot short barrel load but have been giving thought to the Federal HST 130 gr micro rounds. I carry right front pocket as well with 1 extra speed strip. I purchased a new colt cobra as well, not for carry as it is heavier but man that trigger is sweet. If you haven't tried on I'd give it a look. If nothing more than just having one. It retired my 4" model 10 as my range plinker. Looking forward to the King Cobra.
I love my 442 Pro Series as a back up to my Glock 19. There are times and places I can’t carry my Glock, I will pocket carry the 442 in the same leather pocket holster from that guy in MN. Can’t remember his name right now. My G19 carries well IWB year round, but sometimes a J-frame just works best when the Glock isn’t practical. Thanks
Concur with the Speer Gold Dot 38 Spl +P as well as the Hornady FTX 38 Spl or 38Spl +P loads...they work well with Ruger .357 LCRs as well. Shooting .357s once in a while is good to remind you of what it is like and why +P in these revolvers should be fine.
I keep going back to one from a 26 and I love the 26. Those J's are so easy to carry though. Within 10 yards I can hit with them quite easily. Charter Undercover and LCR are what I'm using here lately.
I have a 442 getting ready to trade for a 340pd. I'm using the exact same rounds for carry as you are 135g Speer Golddot short berrel 38+p but I'm curious how many rounds have you put through that 340pd ? Cause I'm gonna try to train with it as much as I can. I got 400 rounds of pmc bronze fmj 132g for target loads.
On the fence between mp340 and 340pd. Will only shoot 38 special. I want the 340pd because I would like to pocket carry and the 2 ounce difference is substantial (for me) but am hesitant due to titanium cylinder requiring special care. Have you run into any issues with your 340pd?
Mike try carrying a speed strip with 5 rounds. They are VERY easy to carry in your pocket and will bend and conform to your curves. You can't tell it's there. But it's nice to know I have 5 extra rounds if needed.
Love your j frame videos. I was excited to see a new one. Question... with the price gap between the 642 and 340, if you are only going to shoot .38 +p, is the 340 worth the extra cost?
I would say just grab the 642. For me I liked that option of 357 and the light weight but... i don't see any huge reason to get the 340 if you are only going to shoot 38spl+p
Thanks for the vid! I have a Ruger LCR 9mm that I conceal carry at the gym in a fanny pack-classy, I know. Snubbies still have some niche roles in my opinion and if you like it over a semi, I say do it.
honestly have no thoughts on that caliber as I do not have any experience with it nor have any interest at this time.... I'll try to see if a bud of mine can lend me his .327 fed mag
360pd is always on me, I can add a full size or compact auto to my belt if needed or wanted. I believe that if you think you may place yourself in a situation that 5 shots can't get you out of then maybe rethink your EDC load out or rethink where you're going 😉
I like j frame revolvers , but the 340pd is hard to get it used I only saw it new between $800 and $900 . I solved that problem buying the 442 model, but I keep looking a used but not abused 340pd. Nice video 👍
Dude ive been there. I bought a 360 (steel non fluted cylinder but still featherweight)....it was 700 at the time although ive seen them on sale very cheap lately. I shot 357 full house loads.... immediately realized I'll never use 357 in the thing. I'm pretty sure i also have central nervous system damage now...
@@Chriskelly19067 I been looking for that price range around mid $600 , but I only saw it new over $800 and $900 and also not too many places sale that revolver, I guess is a hot item and goes really quick
I bought this one used back in 2015 I believe. When I see j-frames in the used cases most of the times they are in very good condition. Nothing wrong with that 442 at all. I don't remember what I paid for this 340PD used...
When I was looking for my first carry gun, everyone I went to for advice tried turning me onto some sort of semi auto. Their main talking point was always their superior capacity over revolvers. Always loved revolvers and don't realistically see a scenario in which I'd need more than 5 rounds. Decided to go for a revolver because of their ease of use. Easy for me to carry. Also very easy to teach everyone in the house how to safely handle it.
Awesome video, as always. But why are you apologetic about carrying a J Frame? For the past 4 & 3/4 years my edc has been exclusively either a Smith and Wesson 442 or a Rock Island Armory m 206, depending entirely on my whim durure. They're both amazing handguns.
One year carrying a j frame. Started with a s&w 60,then 37 airweight. Today a 340m&p joined the work force. I'm sure it will go the distance, I'm still young. Thanks for your videos! Very helpful!!
Will always have a j frame. Accurate and well built. .38+p is a great cartridge for self defense.
Just purchased a j frame. Wanted more power than 380. Still carry 9mm when attire permits. But a j frame in ur pocket Works well.
The Gold Dot 135 gr Short Barrel .357 is the best load ever. Definite reduction in recoil over a full house, but still good performance. I got 1,137 FPS on average in a 2" barrel and it expands and penetrates well when I ballistic tested it.
fun discussion, thanks so much! my Ruger LCR has been my primary for the past 3 years, and I'll never go back to anything bigger...
J frame is the only gun I really can carry in any environment. Tuxedo at a wedding, Pocket carry mostly at work, even tucked IWB with an ulti clip while working out. Fantastic gun.
I carry a 340pd everyday at work. It's the only thing I've found that doesnt pull my scrub pants down.
I love Glocks but the S&W 642 always ends up my pocket
I got a fever and the only cure is more J frame.
You’ve gone through a bunch of different revolvers. The fact that you (and other YTers) keep going back to carrying this particular model has convinced me this is the pocket revolver that stands the test of time. I will be getting one soon. Thanks for the update, and keep up the good work!
Richard Rychetsky j frames are awesome. I have a 642 performance center and it’s a great little gun.

In the summer I pocket carry my 642 about 90% of the time. It's just more comfortable if I'm in a t-shirt and shorts than a full or mid-sized handgun.
The 442 was by far my most carried firearm. Light and easy to conceal, plus I shot it well. Recently the cylinder release lever fell off, somewhere on a motorcycle trip. I'll fix it but I've decided that it has done it's service and I'm replacing it.
pinkiewerewolf call s&w. They’ll replace the part no questions asked.
I can’t use a speed loader with laser, the grips are a little too fat

If you're not gonna carry .357 whey spend the extra money? Mines loaded up with Federal Hydra Shok
Ever try Blackhawk OWB with the heavy duty elastic? Can’t remember what it’s called. Any thoughts on Jm4 QCC?thx.

Hey there, any chance on a comparison of the model 327 and the Kimber k6s DASA 2” or 3” models?
I generally carry a J-Frame but I keep 6 rounds in my speed strip. I was trained in the 1980s to use revolvers - load two- fire two.
Fire 6 load six.

B B like I said in the other comment, those exact stocks do, in fact, actually have a cushion down the rear of the butt frame.
