I like revolvers however I don’t think I’d carry one about outside of a hiking/hunting role. The one thing I don’t like is that you have to take your eyes off the target to reload.
My preferred carry is a Smith 649 Bodyguard with 38+P Gold Dots. A Model 19 or 66 alternates in cooler weather. Still like my 1911s and Smith 39's, but a revolver's reliability makes me feel more secure. Reloads can be fast with speed loaders (if you practice). In shooting, you make each shot count vs. rapid fire with a semi. As Bill Jordan said, speed is fine--accuracy is final.
I don't know the purpose of the gold colored stud pins. My understanding is that the frames are essentially an aluminum alloy to which Scandium has been added. Few, if any Al-alloy metals will withstand the 36,000 psi pounding of magnums. Aluminum is simply too malleable. But adding a small quantity of Scandium powder to the alloy creates a stronger matrix, allowing it to withstand the pressures - so says a metallurgist I know. I expect cheaper polymer will replace the Sc guns shortly.
If you can find one in good shape, the 696 is a 5-shot L-frame .44 Special, great for carry. I have my "holy grail" carry gun - a 3" Model 657, but "light" loads are hard to find. The N-Frame 3-inch Model 25 works best with HST or Double-Tap's 255gr Auto Rim's. Still, it always seems to come back to a J-Frame or snubby K-Frame for comfort and convenience, doesn't it?
im a huge j frame guy, id pick that over a micro .380. I actually got rid of my p238 for a j frame. the only way id ever trade in my j frame is for a model 60 snubbie cus its full stainless which i love and it can shoot .357 as well and id only use the .357 for when im In the woods while im hunting as a backup
Only if your life depended on it. But as far as a fun range gun-OUCH! I'll take the full size model gun. Even the G-23 I often wondered if I should have got the G-22 instead but being a .40 cal. would it have made any difference with that very snappy recoil?
Great vid. I was one of thoes guys always saying semi autos were better and recently that has changed. I am absolutly in love with revolvers, in fact if I could find the right deal i am looking to trade my kimber cdp pro ii for a night guard 357. I now own a ruger super redhawk alaskan in 44 mag
I'm a huge smith fan especially their revolvers, I usually carry 2. That way when an autoloader fanboy says what about a reload ive got it covered. Besides the fact I'm twice as accurate with a revolver except for the fnx45 tactical I own. I usually carry my 66-4 & my GOVERNOR. But I'm gonna retire my 66-4 & get a 340 pd so I won't obsess about polishing it every time I carry it
Scott Kane did you get the 340 pd? I've owned the 340 pd, the M&P 340 and several 340 sc revolvers. I would recommend the M&P 340 because it has the steel cylinder.
It's 2022 ten years later then when you got that comment and I still carry a 5 inch nickel 27-2 from time to time what was that got Talking about ... hopefully you still have that night guard that's a gem and hard to find now
navyman8903 hey there - no this one I sold a long time ago. I would caution buying a "scandium" frame revolver. Depends... #1 they are ultra expensive #2 I have seen the frames crack. This one I sold to someone and he later told me he had to send it back to Smith because the frame had a slight crack. They let him pick something else out at the same retail value because the Night Guards are no longer made or something.... I do have a new Smith revolver which I'll do a vid on next week.... Smith seems to have QC issues but everyone I know that has sent their Smith back has gotten it returned to them in 5-7 business days and everything is done right. But you gotta wonder, why can't they get it right the first time? Are you looking for a 357mag?
***** Yes, if I get one I would like .357 mag. I have a video I never uploaded shooting my Grandfathers smith .357. Best wheel gun I've ever shot. You can't beat that trigger. He used it as a bailiff back in the day. The gun is over 50 years old. I'm not a .44mag fan for sure.
navyman8903 You should upload that vid, I'd love to see it. Its always interesting talking to retired cops from the 80s. Well those are the ones I've talked to so far and how they carried a S&W or Colt 38spl/357mag (interesting that some departments back in the day would allow a 357mag revolver but would not authorize them to use 357mag!?) and "that's all they had to work with" back then.
I like the shirt, but you must be insane if you don't think you need semi-automatic firepower, especially when people shoot at you from cars where I'm from, although the shirt is cool, distance and speed and accuracy > reliability. How many rounds are in that thing? 6 maybe 8 after that what are you gonna do if you didn't neutralize the threat, you gonna sit there and reload while he probably fires at you with his automatic?
Last time I checked a snub will allow you to shoot at cars and drive bys are quick they shoot a few rounds and drive off and if you shoot at a car that’s driving away you need more training
Did you know... Scandium is a very rare earth mineral and most of the sources are in Russia. It's expensive to mine, hard to refine so it runs about $7k/pound! Fortunately, it doesn't take a lot to strengthen aluminum alloys. The mixing and blending of the material during smelting is critical though. These reasons are why Sc guns are so expensive.
Love your vids i Have a relly stupid question probubly because i dont own a revolver yet... Whats j frame and l frame and all of that ? Deff love them tho fun to shoot
I like my Rugar LCR 357 5 shot. In a ccw situation in general you will not be dealing with multiply targets. For an home invasion scenario 2-5 guys will be storming your home with quick and over whelming force. With my training I am more competent with my CZ/Beretta.
Who are these people that care so much about another man's carry gun? With as much as you have to have in common with someone to be a fellow armed citizen it is ironic to then pick such a silly argument about platform.
Hello from the future….. Night Guard series was never on my radar back in the day….. now I’m on the hunt for one of those 386NG’s…… beautiful
As someone who had to combat reload a revolver under fire I can assure you that, with practice, it can be done fast enough to defend yourself.
Now in 2021 i wish i could find one of those 386 night guards !
Well, its 2024 and many people still carry one of those "death traps."
If that 386 night guard needs a new home I'll make sure she's take care of properly
I missed this video years ago....
Those two revolvers on the shirt look like an angel holding two balance scales.
yea i agree with you its better to shoot in DA. thats funny but some people might think like that. wheel guns are the STANDARD! evrything else.
The night guard 45 is a real gem
I like revolvers however I don’t think I’d carry one about outside of a hiking/hunting role. The one thing I don’t like is that you have to take your eyes off the target to reload.
If you have emptied your gun your target should not be able to move while you reload. Hopefully.
Another good thing about revolvers, they are so easy to clean.

Totally agree with DAO practice. My LCR gets the most practice/range time of all my pistols. 5-for-sure.
I don't know why they stopped producing the nightgard. I'd love to find a 12 airweight in mt travel's

The Night Guard is a beautiful firearm.
Ruger LCR .38 +P hurts alot too especially with Buffalo Bore loads.
In Wisconsin we just got ccw and I know alot of people buying glock 19s and 23s, my edc is a s&w 442 130 gr+p

I just got a 3 inch lew horton 624 I also have a 3 inch 625 I love 3 inch Smiths
lol rappers dont use revolvers if there was a sigma on that shirt it would totally be a rapper shirt

Can’t go wrong with a revolver.
Aw man, the night guards are gone? Bummer. They sure are great guns. Hopefully, I'll be able to snag one before they dry up. Good vid.

You carry a revolver because you are a classy man. :D
Are u still rockin the revolver I also love them I'm rocking the new ruger LCRx 38 spl
only the LCR 38... I've retired the 686, how is that LCRx?
Great video! And I carry a Glock Model 17!
Do you still have this one brother? I was looking at getting one maybe....not a wheel gun guy, but I like S&W revolvers.

Good points. Do you still have the .41mag? How does it compare vs. the 386NG?
Put those .38 or .357 Buffalo bore loads.
