      She was cute and super-thin (perhaps a bit too thin) in the 1980s. Then she got married and put on a lot of weight, which didn't look too good on her. But somewhere in between, I think in the 1990s at a concert in France, where she had put on a little bit of weight and wore a tight, short dress... oh my goodness. "Hot" doesn't even begin to describe it.
      Having said all that, if I rode the Tube and there was Kim Wilde singing "Kids in America", I'd be kissing the ground at her feet.

    As a "kid in America" who was a music freak what I remember is that the whole album that included "Kids in America" (on EMI Records) was great, and there were at least 3-4 singles that were big hits overseas. My impression was that "Kids in America" and her remake of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" were her biggest radio hits here, but that "Chequered Love" track was every bit as good. "Kids in America" still gets played sometimes here in L.A on "retro night". at a dance bar I go to; sounds just as hot as ever.

    This Song became a bit of OUR SONG back then... It followed me in the 80s..
    When I was 17yrs of age, I joined the US Air Force and off to Athens Greece I was sent. When this song would come on in the clubs in Greece, we were all over the dance floor, Singing, Dancing and enjoying LIFE!!

      You went down the road (hill) to the bottom, to your right was a square windowless building with security (BLD 510), if front of you would be the MAC Terminal and just off to the left a bit, would had been the base Fire Dept... during the 1980's...
      When you entered BLD 510, there was a double security door, where you walked into and the door shut behind you, locking you inside a cubicle like. To your Right, behind the glass were SP's awaiting for you to IDENTIFY. Once that was done, your badge was given to you, then the door inner door would be buzzed open so you could enter the building... :)

    I grew up in theatrical digs. When I was about 10, Marty and some of the Wildecats stayed in our house. Marty was fab, embarrassingly modest, super man. He used to give me 5 bob (look that up, kids) to go and fetch his suits from Martins the Cleaners near Leicester railway station. Fans would follow his taxi from Leicester Palace theatre and almost picket our house. I used to sell his (or any) cigarette ends to the girl fans.......
    We had swords.......... They were theatrical props but I well remember the band going out in the road and having mock fights.
    Never any drunkeness (and plenty of our luvvy and muso guests drank like fishes), always polite.

Disco was dance, no drugs needed like with raves. MTV was killing it and college radio stations brought us all the fringe music. The economy wasn't great but good enough so that everyone could have a future of whatever kind they wanted. Tolerance ofdiversity was beginning and a mention of race was referring to cars, not people. It was the last of the innocent times with so much being new and good and different. It was the last time we were all really together as one, and it will never happen again.

    summer of 1982, i met a girl named amy in hawaiin gardens, ca, that was huge into this song. i suppose that she would be considered to have been my first girlfriend, though our time together was very, very brief, being that i was just visiting relatives for only a short time. she pretty much came straight out and told me that she wanted us to get naked, but...somehow it just didn't happen.
    kids in america is on one of my 6 custom 80s playlists, and it IS a great song. it will always remind me of amy....

      @Noah Tunnell Sadly, not yet. Limited funds, I am waiting on my "stimulus check" still.
      In case you Noah are NOT a "kid in America" yourself, in the USA, some of us are getting a check for a decent chunk of money to offset the affects of the "pandemic" here, or so I am THINKING that is why they are sending the checks out to us.
      I do have other bills to pay with that money but I am glad that you reminded me that I want a turntable, I would have NOT remembered to get one with that money.
      I have seen some LP albumns for sale at Wal_Mart (a popular store in the USA) so, surely I can get a turntable some place. Thanks for reminding me:)
      Back in the 1980's I used to envy Kim's looks, she was so damn pretty. I envied Kim and the gal from "Berlin". Berlin 's most well known song must be "Take my breath away" from the soundtrack of the movie "Top Gun", I THINK that gal from Berlin's name is "Terri Nunn". I COULD be wrong, BUT, I really THINK that's her name.
      As for Kim Wilde, she had also made a "hit" from a "cover" of the song "You just keep me hanging on" or something close to that which had been originally performed by Diana Ross OR Diana Ross and the supremes.
      The more that I see of this video, the more I wonder IF Kim MAY be from Sweden as well as living in the UK for a while. I can see some words that MAY be Swedish or ????
      The last name "Smith" I THINK is British, BUT, for all that I know, it could be also German, Irish etc. Kinda like the name "Miller", I just am not sure IF it is British, Irish or even German ??? Dare I suggest "Swedish?"
      BTW, I am also "a bit smashed" as Kim mentions she had been. I am NOT too drunk, but, I am just confused by seeing Kim's video shown with some "subtitles" that look like (IF I had to guess) Swedish? Maybe even "Norweigen"? SORRY this is so damn LONG, BUT, I have had some vodka tonight :) later dude :)

    • @juliegogola4647
      @juliegogola4647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Noah Tunnell Okay, so you are from where Heath Ledger was from? Anyhow, I do want to get a turntable eventually. It will really depend on the price of a turntable vs any bills that I have. I do have many records of many 1980's records that I CAN listen to on TH-cam for free BUT MAYBE I will buy a turntable IF it is about or LESS than $100.00.

    • @juliegogola4647
      @juliegogola4647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Noah Tunnell I am a bit confused by your last comment, BUT, really you MAY have figured that I could listen on TH-cam with a cell phone? And, THAT does make sense.
      I have been using a home computer for my computer needs, NOT a cell phone, BUT, really IF my cell phone is charged up, I COULD use it if the power went off.
      THIS will sound odd, BUT, here goes, I have JUST a couple of months ago got my brothers old cell phone. BEFORE that, I had only a "caveman phone" as the "kids" call it, lol.
      My brothers old cell phone is my first "smart phone" so, I am new to being able to listen to and view videos on a cell phone. AND, my cell phone can only be used to access the internet when I am in a place that has Wi-Fi. And, that has been when I am at home since the pandemic has it so that you can NOT eat sitting in the dining room of most restaurants.
      On a brighter note, I have finally gotten my stimulus check, BUT, I have been using it mostly in a very "mature" way, paying off debts and buying things that I really NEED vs what I want. BUT, I just may go and buy that turntable since I have a 15% off coupon for the store that USED TO have the Turntable, so, I do HOPE they still have it.
      Okay, sorry this is so damn long, later :)
