Please keep doing reviews! I'm so glad someone finally someone does critical analysis of games rather than just a 15 minute how to play followed by a 5 minute opinion.
I love your occasional quirky humour and well-paced format! You're one of the few reviewers that elicits a chuckle whilst keeping me thoroughly engaged with thoughtful analysis.
Nice review! I like the flow and depth. Prepare for your channel to blow up. It WOULD be nice to see a picture of the game board and pieces to have a mental picture to place those mechanics into. Makes remembering the game easier too.
I don't think he needs more pics of the game. As someone else pointed out, images are all over BGG and well everywhere. Plus not adding those pics saves on editing and time and our dudes time. He's crushing it perfectly.
Great first video! I love the sprinkling of dry, offhand witty comments. Some of the usual 'review tropes' were missing e.g. how well it scales, but the level of detail provided on how it feels to play and how it compares to similar games was superb.
Good point, that was an oversight. My apologies. I felt it scaled well enough that I didn't feel the need to comment on it, which I suppose is a statement in itself. The solitaire system was intriguing, though admittedly I only played it once.
Wow. Let me just say, I'm speechless. Hats off. For the first time, a board game reviewer a) doesn't show me the game components, I can look at from every angle on BGG b) doesn't try to explain the rules to me, knowing that I am an intelligent person and can learn them on my own c) talk about deep game details and design in a meritorical way. Welcome on my subscribe list. So so very much.
You're good! Have to admit that I am usually a guy who likes games review videos with humour (SUSD and the like), but I followed a link to you from a forum I use and thought I'd try a review from you on a game I have played a bit, namely Scythe, to see how your knowledge and opinions fared. Having watched it, you do a good, in-depth review and have obvious knowledge of the board gaming world you talk about. The only thing you need to add, I reckon, considering you are just starting, is more game shots. Maybe try a few with people playing certain moves in the game, just to liven up the guy standing in front of a bookcase view. That said, I only noticed the bookcase when I was 6 minutes in, so you had me hooked up until then and I continued to watch it through. I have subscribed, so please carry on adding content. Will be up-voting you on the forum post the guy linked you from. Good luck.
Thank you for your perspective and analysis of the game. There are so many “How To” videos. Thank you for taking the time to think deeply and critically and share your view. THIS is thoughtful content. Thanks!
Bravo! This is the best witty review I've seen to date, but that is a personal preference which is to say it's right and you should agree. I had written Scythe off as I also hated Euphoria, but now the lust is back.
I won't lie, I didn't like you at first. But damn it man, you're very good at this and your analysis for these games is really captivating. Subscribed.
Thanks for the review. If I am looking for a 4x game that has tech trees like Exodus Proxima or Civilization, that scratches that TI3 feeling in 2-3 hours - Would you say that this game would do the trick better than these or is there another game that would do better? I guess what I am asking is, is this game in the same vain as the two previously listed, and is this the best mechanically out of the bunch in this genre?
There aren't any tech trees in Scythe, as all upgrades are relatively free-standing and self-sufficient--so it might be too light to satisfy your particular needs.
Thanks. Like the other guys said, your presentation was great. It's always nice to have more well produced opinions on games out there so that we can make informed purchases. I subscribed, and I hope you are able to stick around and add to this great hobby by your reviews.
Nice video style, appriciated both your detail and in keeping it sub 20 minutes. I could pretenciously potificate on what was missing but will save you the dueling oppinion of another overweight white guy in a t-shirt =p looking forward to watching more of your vids (subscribed)
I had the same feeling about the flavor text and tunnels -as well as crossing rivers? doesn't seem that difficult- but choose to repress it for the sake of the fiction. Also agree about the victory cards -totally unbalanced. I've started using three in order to even it out a bit. Don't want to trim the deck because sometimes you check your cards mid game and realize "holy shit, I've got that nailed." This is the first video of yours I've watched, and as others have said, you have good pacing and an interesting approach. Thanks for the tip on Antike, too.
I have to disagree with you on the FFG or flavor text in games. I think it can add a lot of Immersion to the theme even if it doesn't play a part in telling your story in the game. if anything art and text come together to put you in the world and that I find valuable
Nope, i totally disagree about FFG:s flavour text on their cards and the card art. Sorry not my style of review. You cold bash every game out there. Why?

Same, glad I found him

Heard and will do. Thanks very much for the feedback.

I really liked this. Concise, tight, informative, and funny review all at the same time. I look forward to more.
Lad you do the best video reviews on BGG...probably the only one that tries! Keep up the good work and thumbs up for Umberto Eco on the background!
You're on to a great format. Please keep going! Funny and great commentary on design!
Great channel. You are doing strong reviews and you understand how games work. It's great to see.
I like your style! Unique, helpful, and very honest. I subbed. My only critique would be to show us more of the game components while you are talking.

Nice review! It's nice to see a little more in depth analysis of the game and how it works

Please keep on doing reviews, they are very good and informative.
This is an excellent review. I'm definitely looking forward to more videos.
First time watching one of your reviews. I'm subscribing to your channel. I like your style!

very intelligent review. enjoyed the recommendations, and the review of how the game is without the generic walk through of all the rules
You're my new favourite overweight white guy in a T-shirt reviewer!
I bet you say that to all the husky gentlemen.
Great review. I really appreciate your different and intelligent approach.

Sounds like a step outside my comfort zone in a very interesting way. Thanks for the review, I hadn't seen this one yet.
Subscribed. High quality game analysis. Thank you for you great job.
Great first video! Pumped to play it
Like the analytical style. You now have another subscriber
Really like the style. Much better than mine. Look forward to more!
One of the best reviews I've ever heard.
Very interesting from start to finish.
Only negative thing I can say is you dont do enough reviews. 😏
"If you disagree, I forgive you."

Serious problem with this review. You're clearly wearing a polo, not a t-shirt. Unwatchable.

"past track record" - "only played one other game." One game is not a "track record."
If you have difficult objective cards, you just adapt and attain something else.
Sure, but if I have easily obtainable ones that I will get simply by building my engine, I'm essentially getting a free star over you.
dont agree with the flavour text thing, but great review. Probably not for me.
It took me till the end to notice your books and then I had to stop to read the titles. You’ve got all my favourite authors it seems.
Great, thanks!

If you're just an overweight white guy in a shirt...it now makes sense why we only see your upper torso.
Enjoyed your review, agreed on several points, but disagree with conclusion. Game tries to be too many things and ends up doing them all poorly.

No, the game is dull. Dull, dull, dull. The art is fantastic, and the game fails in every way to join up with the theme.
Subbed.
