The rules didn’t say resolving D. D. Warrior’s effect after a direct attack was illegal, so I opened the shadow realm and it sucked my opponent and judges who dared to defy me.

Its broken, since it makes my Salamangreat Jack Jaguar a 2300 beater, and also makes Meluseek a 1000 attack direct attacker with a pop. It is actually a big problem for the format, especially with Toons being so good in the metagame

The biggest mistake with this card was not including the anime line of text "At the end of the duel, the soul of the losing player is claimed by this card"
I run this card in a lot of decks just so I can say “If you lose the duel, you lose your soul!”
It’s not much, but it amuses me.
This card used to steal people's souls but Konami didn't want to pay for the lawsuits, so they nerfed it.

The anime effect of the seal was so busted. It allowed you to treat your spell/trap zones as monster zones and monsters positioned in the spell/trap zone can't be attacked unless there are no monsters in the actual monster zones.
Not only that, but the Seal cannot be destroyed by card effects on top of boosting the atk of all monster on your field by 500.
It is by far the *original* unfair field spell in yugioh lore.

Yeah it would also be completely unfair you go first you set up a card that shuts down your opponent and they need to draw two outs to the card just to play

I like the idea of having anime-based cards with effects as close to the original as possible that are just illegal for competitive use. I think the original illegal versions of the god cards were pretty cool because they didn't specify their effects. So you could just play with the anime effects in casual duels if you wanted to. "This card cannot be used in a duel" versions of the Seal of Orichalcos or other such cards could be a lot of fun to use casually. It's pretty uncommon for the anime strats to translate to the metagame anyway, so why not just throw the casual anime fan players a bone?
Well, you technically CAN play it if you want, sort of. Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins has almost identical effects to the anime Seal of Orichalcos, and comes without any Extra Deck restrictions.
Ah, the seal orichalcos. A card that based a whole filler arc in the anime. There was this one time these kids at my locals were looking for the card because they saw it in the anime. The kid was dissapointed when I told him his utopia was destroyed when seal was played.
It is a really good 1-of in Earthbound Immortals. Unfortunately "good" is not a word that can be used to describe the Immortals.

Best use for Seal of Orichalcos is to use Set Rotation and activate it on your opponent's side, to destroy all their special summoned monsters and lock them out of the extra deck.
You know a card has been overbalanced when the best use of it is to force your opponent to use it.

The main problem with this card is that its main effect, taking people souls, is rendered obsolete by the fact that bot the opponent and your soul is already owned by Konami
Orichalcos pendulum rituals was my Rouge deck back in the day! Nobody expected hungry burger + ritual weapon + orichalcos+ Royal decree + vanity's fiend (the one that negates monster effects!).
If Seal of Orichalcos said "Destroy all Special Summoned Monsters, and all players cannot special summon from the Extra Deck", at least then it would be something people would play.

Still waiting on their own version of the other 2 seals that were on the anime. Those other 2 may make the OG one playable since those would bend the rules of the card even in the anime.
The only type of deck I could see this card benefiting would be Malefic's and possibly Monarchs. Malefic would be obvious because it would be the field spell needed to get your cards on the field, plus the restriction of the extra deck isn't really that problematic because Malefic's only use the extra deck to summon their monsters, for example all you have to do is summon malefic star dust and you get a 3000 point beater that protects the seal at the cost of an extra deck monster that you weren't even going to use. Plus with the use of the newer spell that changes the Malefic monsters effects you'd be able to summon Malefic Rainbow Dragon and then you have a 4500 point beater that will protect Stardust from getting beaten over. So all you'd have to do Is add cards to protect your monsters from getting nuked off the field and you'd be in good shape. It's not a fool proof plan but it does have its possibilities. And of course Monarchs don't even use the extra deck to begin with so It would be a good way to power up your monsters if you don't have the Monarch field spell anymore. But that seems like a worst case scenario.

But wouldn't Rank 10 monsters sort of outweigh the pros of Orichalcos? Like Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer or Gustav Max.
@@Combaticon But at the same time you need to build an entire deck around the idea in order to MAKE those rank 10's. The point I was trying to make would be that Malefic's would benefit from having the seal of ori because they need field spells and don't really rely on cards from the extra deck except by removing them from play in order to summon their monsters which would get stronger and protect their field spell at the cost of not being able to summon those extra deck cards. Which again. Isn't even something Malefic players even worry about.
Ian Hunter some common cards like borrelord/sword dragon in most decks can easily be brought out and beat over pretty much even rainbow dragon (for borrelsword). Then again it all comes down to whether you have the necessary protection or your opponent having effect negating cards to ram over your protection.
There is Yu-Gi-Oh lost media that is out there. It's fascinating to find some of these (including the Original Upper Deck seal of Orichalcos)
This card actually came out years ago in the Legendary Collection Yuri's World. I remember because it also came with BLS Envoy, which was a really solid reprint. I played this in Middle School (I'm a high school graduate now) and it won me EVERY GAME. XD Not kidding but we were tributing for Blue-Eyed back then so everything that wasn't bad was broken in our little meta.

Card combo that coulda destroyed the seal of orichalcos:
First they coulda played Hey Trunade, which returns all spell and trap cards to the owner's hand, this doesn't destroy the seals in any way so it'll probably work. After this Card Destruction woulda done the trick, when the Seals are in the owner's hands they would be forced to discard it. I know this destroys the card and "you can't destroy the seals," but that's only when the spell is activated, if it's in the person's hand it's a different story, humans may be strong in the world, but their helpless before they're born.
I liked using this card in Monarchs when it was at full power. Made Ehther and Erebus a bit bigger and protected the smaller Monarchs of the same attack. I miss those days...
This video came in a prefect time for me, since I'm rewatching the orginial Yugioh anime and I'm just in the middle of Doma arc.

Really it's best use was with Set Rotation to give it to your opponent first turn, it would domain lock with if they activated it and sometimes nuke a few monster too at the down side of letting their main deck monster have 500 more attack a really good trade off.

@@ddynamite3835 dude it's a 1-of that you just play in addition to your other field spell/searcher and tbh 500 attack is pretty decent; also you can use it in True King/Dinos etc. to destroy your own monsters so I think it's pretty good. You could even get a 1000 attack boost for Dinos if you had Seal on your side and Lost World on their side of the field.

I actually made a Dartz deck now that Geh came out. I found some good substitutes for the anime only cards, and just tripled everything. The deck actually plays really well and similar to the show.
It's sucks they aren't very good cards though 🥺
The seal would have been better (not great, but playable) if they had kept just 1 of its anime effects intact without nerfing it. Backrow monsters? Great, I can see a lot of use for that. Cant be destroyed period? OK, then its a permanent 500 attack boost once it hits the field in exchange for no extra deck monsters, that could be used in some decks. No "cant special summon extra deck monsters" effect? Cool, its still not the greatest card but can be played in casual decks for the attack boost and lightning rod without messing up your strategy (and note that Rex fusion summoned under it in the anime, so their excuse is moot)
And the worst part is, Ancient City Rainbow Ruins has all those effects (and in fact is better effect-wise since it can negate multiple cards with no restrictions, can reduce damage taken and gives you a free draw and summon each turn. Granted the backrow monsters is a general gimmick of the archetype but other than that, it's basically Orichalcos turned up to eleven) and was released 5 years earlier.
Now we need you assessing the anime version of this archetypoe and how it would withstand against the meta.

Being an anime antagonist lets you open with seal even without terraforming. It's insane
I think the best quality of this card is the part about your opponent not being able to attack your lowest attack monster. This is more exploitable than people realize. If you have just two monsters that are the same attack, your opponent can't attack you period. This is a pretty good move if you need to buy some time.
To the magic players out there, this card translates roughly as an enchantment that gives all your creatures +2/+0. Yeah... they thought that needed a down side as if having one in your deck wasnt a downside already.

I think I can make some improvements to the Seal of Orichalcos
-Once per turn, your monsters cannot be destroyed.
The restriction would be: When your monsters are destroyed, whether by battle or effect, remove them from play.
-No monsters can be special summoned from the extra deck.
-Once per turn this card cannot be destroyed.
The restriction would be that you can only activate this field spell once per duel, making it susceptible to counter play but also allows it to really turn a duel around.
I remember trying it in a few decks, malefics probably took the most advantage of it but that more about how bad malefics are than how good the seal of orichalcos is.
Back in the day when most of the field spells were not also searchers.
I wanted to say "how about make them as balanced cards?", but I think it's too late now, isn't it.

Flavor-wise the card makes sense. Allowing the Extra Deck would have made no sense as the card ended up nuking the Timaeus fusion when Yami Yugi used it and even rejected one of the fusions in the duel after that. In hindsight, they should have allowed extra Monster Card zones in the Spell/Trap Card zones with the ability to move one of them back and forth once per turn. That would probably have made the once per Duel clause a bit more worth it.

After they released the Golden Castle of Stromberg and the Valkyries I started wondering when Konami would release the rest of the Orichalcos cards. it'd be interesting to see if they do wind up doing that someday.

@@intuitivelymagician2076 I kind of figured that they'd take a route sort of similar to Golden Castle with the remaining Orichalcos monsters. That is, have extra effects on the monsters that activate if the field spell is out.
Not sure what the extra seals Deuteros and Tritos would do, though. The effects those had in the anime didn't honestly feel like they were worth the effort of specifically already having the original Seal on the field first. Maybe their name changes to "The Seal of Orichalcos" while on the field, but they otherwise have quite different effects?
There's still some room for them to be inventive in what they do if they ever get around to releasing those cards. The word 'if' being the important word there.

Seal Monster of Orchalcos
I once built a gimicky dark-tribute-fodder deck which used Ccapac Apu as a boss monster. I actually found the seal's two beneficial effects helpful, and the downsides nearly pointless to my strategy. In fact, as an alternative strategy, I found a new use for the seal: putting it on your opponent's field with Set Rotation, requiring them to nuke their special summoned monsters if they ever want to flip it face-up to play their own field spells. It was just like the anime- give the seal to your opponent, and then they loose for trying to use it!
Now that I think about it, Orichalcos is probably a great backup option for Earthbound Immortal decks in general. It buffs the already strong monsters, protects your tribute fodder by forcing your opponent to attack your Immortals (who can't be attacked in the first place), and since the seal protects itself, it also protects the Immortals from their own effects. Sure, it locks out the synchro strategy developed by Greater Linewalker, but I say it again: slap the seal face-down on your opponent's field with Set Rotation instead, and they'll have a hard choice to make.
They nerfed it that hard because they didn't want Duelist taking so many souls.

In a big official tournament, there should be an orchestra dedicated for a player using Seal Of Orichalcos.
I don't see why the back row effect was so difficult to include. All they needed to state was "Your Spell & Trap Zones are also treated as Monster Zones; your opponent cannot target monsters in these Zones for attacks or with card effects, unless your main Monster Zones are empty."

The Seal is a decent tech option in Border Stun. The Orichalcos + Thunder King + Fossil Dyna board is still hard to establish several years later 😂
The worst part about the use of this card is that anime fans will say “YoU LoSe YoUr SoUl?!?” When you really just want the attack boost

With so many ways of banishing a card, why not making it indestructible at all? That still doesn't protect it from banish or return to hand. Destroying all special summon monsters and no extra deck is already quite insane to make anything viable with the seal.

Orichalcos had its glory.Mostly on machinas and stun decks,in specific in 2013 there was a stun deck going around with the card guard and safe zone that card guard would protect orichalcos and/or safe zone to have a neverdying beater and a pachycephalo next to that beater with a call of the haunted keeping the whole thing in place,it wasn't the best deck ever but it was a good control deck that it did had some glory days.The machina was one of the best times with orichalcos because it simply gave the option to many to go budget with the deck and instead of getting 2 dracosack and 1 big eye it turned to 1draco 1big eye and 1 orichalcos,i remember a lot of people turned into that deck just because of that option and did experience great success.Finally there was a fire fist version with orichalcos that played as beatdown with orichalcos and once orichalcos was down they went rampage with all the resources they had gathered while orichalcos was on.
It was a nice card that because of some wrong placed text remained in silence,if it had the option ot be played multiple times it would be a lot better,if the destruction effect was optional(which sometimes activating was advanteous because of some floaters) the card would be a lot more playable.
I was really disappointed with it. Why couldn’t they just make it good?

While I do agree with most of your points, I think this card with none of it's restrictions would have seen a lot of play as a one-of in decks at time of it's release. The 500 to each monster isn't a big deal for any one monster but that's also 500 less damage needed on board for an otk for each monster you control. Can't remember it's name but there was this xyz rank 3 that saw an awful lot of play that would give 300 to each monster. Just imagine spamming the board and getting a 2500 bonus to your total attack, that's only 5500 LP leaft to deal, whit is on average 1100 original atk on each of your monsters. Remember this is from a time where spamming 5 cards on board was something happening every duel. As a last thought if you add said rank 3 to the combo, that's 800 bonus to each monster, (one of which sits at a 1800 base, turning into. 2400). This means with the rest of the monsters you'll have to deal 5600, if you have four monsters they're getting a total boost of 3200, which means you need just 2400 atk over whatever your opponent controls among your four monsters to otk. Yes I know what I talk about hurts consistency, but it's not really an awful choice for decks that spam the field with few cards combos. Lastly (for real this time) it lets you take souls! Hope I don't end up in "commenters don't understand seal of orichalcos"
Don't forget what happened with Card of Sanctity...anime version: draw until you have 6 cards in your hand...IRL version: banish all cards you control and in your hand (min. 1 of each) and draw until you have a whole two cards in your hand.
Just thinking about that makes card economy cry a bit.

I find it pretty funny that I have this card and run a machina deck, but mostly ran the seal for the nostalgia factor, but apparently it’s my deck that’s the only archetype that truly benefits from it lol.
They should bring back the seal ranking up mechanic. Just have em play each level of it on top of the previous field spell like an XYZ.

I feel like The Seal was Konami's first real attempt making modern-style field spell cards, and at the time, this card was very close to being a real boost to a handful fairly terrible archtypes. The Seal of Orichalcos is a unique card that only improves archetypes that don't use Yugioh's most important resource, allowing it to be used as a boost to bad decks - decks that tend to be used by more casual fans that probably watch the anime. And thats ok, a card as blanketly powerful as the anime effect of The Seal, 500 attack for only you, indestructible and an increase to board size would probably be a little too good at some point, so all of these restrictions are logical, and still fit the style of the card, the casual hero, the 4Fun friend, the rival to The Heart of The Cards. That being said, they went a little too ham with the negatives. Why destroy ALL special summoned cards, if the whole point of that line is to prevent only extra deck summons with The Seal as follow-up to bypass the extra deck restriction? It punishes decks that play it and end up top-decking it, ruining the whole point of the card. It just feels unnecessary. Just make it say "destroy all Special Summoned monsters FROM THE EXTRA DECK you control". And only once per duel? Like I get it, the anime characters only had one each, but the card couldn't be destroyed in the anime, so now if The Seal gets popped, you're kinda screwed. And why does it only protect your weakest monster, why doesn't it say "only target the HIGHEST attack", instead of "can't target the lowest"? Were they afraid of Malefics trashing the meta with a self-protecting +500 attack boost for only 1 monster? Were Earthbound Immortals too OP if they could prevent monsters from attacking, even though the deck is way too slow? There's almost no way these decks would be tier 1 after this card, and it would have been awesome for more casual strategies to be able to utilize this card to the fullest. No competitive deck can afford to run this card that does nothing to help set up, the only scary thing it could possibly do is some crazy Pendulum action OTKs with the +2500 total attack, but Qli didn't want it, and Pepe really didn't need it. I wish this card was actually usable, a weak, slow card that helps out the weak, slow decks. It would have been perfect at helping bad decks compete, but it turned out to be just another terrible card, lost in the transition from anime to TCG. On the bright side, now dzeeff doesn't have to worry about commenters telling him how broken their old-school 3500 Attack Blue-Eyes decks with no extra-deck are. 4500 attack Chaos Max? now you can 1-shot if they have 500 defence! OP!
the only (casul) strategy that i have in mind is malefic simply becouse your opponent cannot twin twist you destroyng both your cyber end and the field spell but there are better option like necrovalley
I remember the Seal Of Orichalcos had gotten one top in like a Regionals, and that's it.

What happens when someone plays this cards, and then ties? It happened to me that a guy I played in a draw activated this field spell. I guess we all get to keep our souls
