Bowie or Visconti mentioned in interviews that the baseline was inspired by (or borrowed from)The Beach Boys. But I can’t recall which Beach Boys song it was.

Very deliberate. Bowie used a gating process to get that effect. He was roaring into the mike by tge end

Wir kindern wom Banhof Zoo, about a young girl in Berlin who got addicted to heroin. And in the movie, Cristiane loved Bowies music. (very good movie)

Nice job... But you're mixing in Carlos's rhythm part - George is just playing straight root notes most of the time. Check out the performance they did on musikladen ( you can find it on you tube) or the video of Tony Visconti with the original 24 track.
