Nice. I never heard the actual notes of the bass line to this song until fairly recently I got a fantastic stereo system. I went "wow" , listen to that bass line !
@@lilielilili Jerry Scheff played bass on the session. The Doors used session players to play bass on recordings but Ray figured out the lines for them.
Yes it looks "impossible" to have it in the same quality. You can hear many "tecs" between the notes and sometimes he missed some notes on time. Although he made a good job, it still doesn't sound as when you do it on the keyboard where the notes can be played fast.
Beautiful bass! Such a peaceful bass line but overall a great exercise for playing open string notes:) Might seem super easy but it takes practice muting strings to do it "cleanly". Sure you could play it without the open strings but its good for all bass players to develop that particular skill.
Nice job. I'm getting ready to tackle this in a 3 piece (guitar, bass and drums). The bass is so vital to the mood. And its a bit tricky to stay that tight in a repetitive groove.
Your stuff is the best! I look forward to your releases each week. I was away from my bass for 22 years and am just getting back into it. I was always a tab man, and your stuff is really getting me playing again!
Thank you so much for your nice comment, Van! I am so glad you found it helpful and like my content :). I am also a tab man. And I was pretty dissapointed with bass tabs quality - that is the reason I created this channel :-).
I’m a beginner bass player also. Working on day tripper with a hofner ignition left handed violin bass. Have a 70’s left hand jazz bass also for this my next song. By the way…. I’m 75 years old. Not too bad huh?
@@jamesmullen3601 The difficulty to play is irrelevant, It's the simplicity that makes it so memorable, Here we are listening to this over fifty years later. Cheers!!
Great job Harry, Jerry Scheff of Elvis fame played the Bass on every track on LA woman, so next time someone tells you to do some research on what instrument it is, tell them to do some research there self 🙄... keep up the good work buddy. ✌🏻😎👌🏻
Jerry Scheff. He played bass on LA Woman. I think it's the only time they employed a bass player. The tracks he played on, love her madly, riders, la woman, he truly did a knock down job!
i played "545" too as is started but i think there are two reasons for playing the open string which is why i mostly play the open string today 1.) if you're a beginner you'll get better at muting;) 2.) i think the open string sounds better in this case in my opinion, the original isn't played on bass guitar but on kind of a "keyboard" and i personally think the open a sounds a bit more similar. But that doesn't make that much of a difference, bnoth ways are entirely fine if you'd ask me;)
I personally finger it both ways, but I prefer it fingered 040, as you stay in the same position almost all along (and during the 48 measures of the keyboard solo), it's quite comfortable keeping the cluster of frets as small as possible, specially when you play it during the 3rd or 4th set of a gig ... :)
Thank you for the line ! ( Tablanote=name of the sound in front of fret number ) You start E B2 G3 B2 E A C#4 A........and so it goes. Friendly from Paris EmaB

Thanks for your comment Rick! :-) Well it is just a fancy term for and EQ. I use it to attenuate some frequencies. I Usually use it pretty drastically between 120 Hz and 300 Hz (where the fundamental of bass guitar is). It is true that you lose some kick presence and the lower midrange of guitars and vocals but I think it is more important to hear the bass guitar clearly. You can download Audacity (free sw) and experiment with that kind of stuff.
what a great cover young man you played this as tight as the drummer . my i ask is their a certain softwear to get the notation and tabs up on my pc screen like what you are using as i am not very pc wise LOL thanks for the video its a great take to inspire people into playing bass . regards mark
That bass sounds good. How do you like it? A local shop sells them. I'm itching for a jazz, probably looking at another Mexican fender to compliment my P, but I'm curious about trying different brands.
Im assuming you play sitting down? Try playing with out a strap and try to stretch before playing and take breaks if you start to feel heavy/tired. It might be that your bass is a bit too heave for you? Good luck and practice practice practice 🙂🙂
I am glad you got the best present ever! :-) Do you mean play along? That is the best way to learn how to play! I'm gonna release one very easy song that you can play right away even as a beginer.
Although your video was somewhat helpful, it is incorrectly played by you. Starting at 1:01 the bass line has a quarter note rest on the 2nd downbeat in the measure and the bassline continues to be played like that throughout the rest of the song, while you incorrectly play the Intro bassline/First Verse bassline all throughout the song. Just to let you know.
A good way for beginners to exercise. Playing the same measure for seven minutes takes practice.
@Yippee Skippy curious info, thanks
I absolutely love this song. That warm bass has sent me immediately into a zone of mystery and peace. Thankyou.
You were probly baked as fuck too lmao

That's because The Doors don't have any bass player at all.

Great bass line from a band that never had a real full time bass player.
Doesn’t look impossible, Ray Manzarek.
I came to see from the same video.
Dont think their bass player played it the same way tho
Was wondering the same thing, wondering why it was so difficult on the bass.
Yes it looks "impossible" to have it in the same quality. You can hear many "tecs" between the notes and sometimes he missed some notes on time. Although he made a good job, it still doesn't sound as when you do it on the keyboard where the notes can be played fast.
