I've watched this video only just now, and boy, what can I say? That was one epic and tremendous trip, and I'm so grateful you took us with you! The shots of the Brazilian scenery and sunsets were stunning. Learning about the local culture and food through you guys was extra fun. I felt like a kid again watching your children having the time of their lives. I also admire the openness, curiosity and kindness the kids once again demonstrated during the trip. That was such a wonderful full feature episode! I had to sit and watch the entire episode on the television. I have to say that the cinematography, editing, content, and narration were top notch. Thank you for taking us halfway around the world and showing us some of the challenges you faced as well as all the exciting adventures your family experienced while on vacation. It was heartbreaking at the end. The kids had such a hard time saying goodbye to their grandparents, Big J looked like he took it real hard, they had such a good time and didn't want to leave. I'm sure they can't wait to return. As always, can't wait for the next episode.

Awww that was awesome to watch. I watched it in 3 sessions and loved every bit of it! You captured your wonderful family holiday so beautifully… I was smiling all the time seeing everyone looking so happy all the time, until the very end when I teared up seeing Joshua so upset hugging his grandparents goodbye.

Waited a few days to watch this and wow what an adventure that was! That boat ride was everything! Sleeping on the hammocks reminded me of the childhood naps I'd take while visiting my extended family in Central America. I learned BR Portuguese a few years ago with the hope of someday traveling to Brazil, and now I'm dreaming of visiting this beautiful part of the country I would've never thought of if it wasn't for the Reutter's :)
Growing up, traveling with my family all around our state was my favorite, and in a few years you will all remember this time with such fondness, especially when the kids are all grown up. I think y'all win the award for best summer vacation of 2022!

I spent 5 years in Porto Velho as a missionary (now in Mozambique) so this was a real "trip down memory lane" for me!! Boats, rivers were all part of my life too!! Blessings over your family as you continue to serve together in Japan.

日本も国土の7割が山地の自然あふれる島国ですが、ブラジルの雄大な自然は日本の自然とはまた規模感が異なりますね…いつか行ってみたいものです。NHKのドキュメンタリーを見ているかのようでした！子どもたちの真夏の大冒険、どれもかけがえのない経験で、なんだか羨ましくなりました。長編の編集お疲れさまでした。とっても楽しく見させていただきました。

This one is really grabbing my heart and bringing back memories of trips our family took to the Mosquito Coast with a mission organization my dad and his friends started almost thirty years go (Alabama Honduras Medical and Educational Network: AHMEN). We worked with a local church group called Cruzadas Evangelicos. I have memories of going to remote villages with no electricity and where no doctor had ever gone before. So many precious moments. The churches you are going into remind me so much of the churches in Honduras and the homes remind me so much of the homes we visited in. You are living such a rich and rewarding life. Prayers that you and yours are able to live this life for many years.

Joshua's crying when leaving is hard to watch. All the kids seem to love Brazil whole a lot than Japan so I wish they could move back there someday. 子供達は日本よりもブラジルの生活の方が好きそうに見えました。いつかブラジルに引っ越せたらいいですね。

Oh wow thank you for making this video. I watched it with our 5 year old n she loved it too. We live in Osaka n also just made the big trip with our 3 kiddos back to our home country after 3 years of not being able to travel so there were many moments we could identify with. Love every moment of the episode. I thought it would be long but it didn't feel like that at all.

OH, this was an incredible video. I enjoyed every little piece of it! Learnt so much about Brazil and Amazon river and had an amazing feelings about it. I'm so glad that your family is so strong and lovable, and that you openly speak about God and serve others. Nowadays you rarely can see people teaching kids the pure way of living, so cool that you guys do it. I myself still young but God also touched my heart. Wow!!! Congratulations on an amazing episode!! You raised the bar big time on filming, editing, and content! Love your audio too! What kind of mics are you using for your shoots and voice overs?
Thanks - this one was an absolute beast to edit. On this one I used my Sony A74 a lot with the ECM-B10 mic and a number of times just the built-in mic (which does a great job picking up stereo audio so long as there's not much wind). The secret is you have to work with the audio afterwards to level it out and sometimes remove background noise. Then for my voice-over mic, I use a mic I use for producing music which is great for voice-overs as well, a Slate ML-1.

Have you been to Oizumi-machi (大泉町) in Gunma prefecture? It’s called “Brazilian Town” cos 10% of its population is Brazilian. There are Brazilian restaurants and stores where you can find various Brazilian food. Your family must be welcomed cos you and Ruth speak Portuguese.
We've only driven through it - it would be interesting to stop there as well.

What a surprise. You went west from Japan to get to Brazil I would have gone east but the pilot knows better than I do
Going East is faster, but going West is cheaper. By half! No joke, and when you have 6 tickets to buy, it makes a difference.
Where and how did you, Nate and Ruth, meet? In Brazil or the US?
We met and married in the US - so we've lived on three different continents :)
I love how you all sai some Portuguese words with a Japanese intonation. I think that's pretty funny.
May I ask, don't the girls, at least the twins know any Portuguese? Since they were born and lived for a few years in Brazil?
They understood Portuguese when we moved from Brazil (they were 4 at the time). But now they don't. I believe it's still in there though!
