This made my day. I had a house built about 2 years ago in Biliran and plan on retiring in the Philippines in a couple more years and do a lot of offshore fishing.

Where in Biliran? I've been to Biliran in Mapuyo, the town after Kawayan, I've been to a lot of beaches specifically in Leyte and Cebu but the best beach ever was in Mapuyo Biliran, it had no cottages, undeveloped and the seafloor was made of stones, the water was super clear and the beach was a rocky place, I always wonder how it looks now, I went there way back in the 90s , I'm currently in Cebu and the beaches here are nice, but that one secret beach in Biliran is still number 1 in my heart

I think its called tulingan? And i google it says that
Tulingan is a type of bonito fish that is high in omega-3 and acids. It has a deeply forked tail, vertical stripes on its back, and a small, velvety scale. Tulingan is commonly found in tropical and temperate seas, where it swims in schools across the ocean.
You really do have to bleed them first best way is to cut out one gill and let them swim in the bait tank. Pumps the blood out and lightens the flesh considerably.

Awesome video! I'm an avid fisherman also and the only thing I can say is that fish in the Philippines have lesser fish oil compared to the fish here in the the U.S, especially on the northwest. Still good eating though. Hopefully will be able to fish back there next year.

Grew up on Guam as a kid , my Dad was with SAC .
Never forget the time he and my uncle came home with a pretty good sized marlin in the trunk of a ‘65 mustang.
Tail out one side and bill out of the other side. They got pulled over by the M.P.s but my dad pulled rank on them and called the base commander 😂
Marlin are not great eating , however my father was good friends with many native Guamanians who worked in the mess hall and bx .
They were very happy to get it . By the way native Guamanians and Phillipinos are some of the nicest people I have ever met!
Go to one of their fiestas you won’t be disappointed. My sister in law is from Davao . Small world.
    Sorry for the rant

With the middle east fixing to blow up I would put off that trip for now. It is always fun in the Philippines. We have property on iloilo and was thinking about getting a seadoo fish pro to fish there. Keep up the good videos 👍

Dubai!!!! I'm an American 🇺🇲marine and soldier and I currently live in the philippines 🇵🇭, working on getting my wife back to the US🎉 I've been to Dubai twice but never knew there was fishing there. I'm originally from SC, just ran upon your channel and after one video, I instantly subscribed bro!

Thank you brother! I’ve been to Dubai a few times back around 2012. I contracted with Triple Canopy in Kuwait. And never fished any of those areas but I’m definitely going back probably December of 2025

Nate, the jack you caught on day 3 was actually a Almaco Jack and not an AJ, so you did get another species on the day/trip. Are those ruby snapper the same as the queen snapper we get deep dropping in the gulf? Great trip. Tight lines and screaming drags. BTW, Costa Rica gets my vote.

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I thought so too but JJ said AJ so I went with it. Probably a language barrier for species translation. Ruby’s are very close to the Queens.

Bonito is great for making soup stock, or cooking in stews. Grilling it is nice too, but it might be off-putting at first. Dip it in some soy sauce and calamansi to cut through the slight bitterness of it.
