Great points about how misogyny attacks all forms of feminimity. And that anyone can operate in it. When you consider other intersections you see how it's all connected. Loved the reading session at the end. Good friends read each other lol
misogyny is hatred of women. femine and masculine women. Gay men can choose how to present themselves in work environment. Manerisms are not biological. Women can't choose not to be women at work.
So many femme gay men idolise and sexualise straight men. I’ve had so many sexual encounters with femme gay men where they wanted me to pretend I’m straight and married to a woman. It’s so annoying. I tell them I’m also gay. And gay men come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There are non femme gay men. We aren’t straight or putting on a mask. Is that misogyny?
I was fired in 2011 for being a gay man at a public community college where I had taught as a professor for six and a half years. Unfortunately, at least at the time, that was 100% legal, they didn't even try to pretend it was for any other reason. This of course happened when a new president came to the school who is an ultraconservative, he literally said he did not want a gay man teaching at his school. Two years later, he was allowed to resign after he got caught embezeling a shit ton of money, but of course he was given several hundred thousand dollars severance.
I have been fired because I was gay a few times. They did not really know if I was gay. Because of criticism and judgement, they just assumed that I was gay.
Yeah, I don’t buy this story at all. Then again your other comment screaming about how gays aren’t accepted and woe is me if I can’t flash my cheeks and kink gear at pride so the victimhood seems strong with you 🤷🏿♂️

This is why your content is always so great. Too often you bring up issues that many of the LGBTQ plus community are aware of, but only superficially aware of… I wasn’t even aware of my own biases about the gay glass ceiling until you brought it up right here! Spot on, thought-provoking, and a demand for us to all do better. Great work as always, Michael, and thank you!
I'm bi, and had limited exposure to fem men, and have to admit that for a long period of my life, I didn't just not take fem men seriously, I found them annoying, a lot of not just internalised homophobia, but also wider cultural expectations of what a man should be. My attitude has shifted since then, viewing fem men as expressive, rather than an act, but I'm aware of how easily one can succumb to prejudices out of ignorance.
Yes I've solely been dropping my ignorance and recently got friends that do drag. I used to hate them but now I can understand them. I will definitely not change my masculine ways it's just who I am but I'm glad I can incorporate more of the community.
I understand that some gay men aren't lucky enough to be born with a masculine gay brain but a feminine gay brain. Most gay men are predominantly into, well, masculine men. Same as straight women. It's a no-brainer really. The ideal male body is tall, strong, hairy, broad-shouldered, sturdy and muscular. A matching ideal male psyche mirrors those qualities by demonstrating a strong will, stoicism, benevolent dominance, compassion for the weak, respect for peers and motivation to learn from superiors. The female body and psyche represent mostly the opposite of those qualities. So for a gay man to act feminine sends a message to many observers of both genders. A message of willful abandonment of both male virtues and obligations. Comparable to a man masquerading himself as a woman to dodge the draft. Is it a fair assumption? Of course not! Feminine gay men don't act that way to annoy everyone around them out of ill intent but because their brain structure won't allow them to act in any other way without becoming untrue to themselves. Degrading fems is therefore as inescapable as degrading the disabled for being, well, disabled. We do not fault women for acting feminine because that kind of behavior is to be expected by someone of their gender and body type. The same should be true for men who are made that way. Just avoid them if you can't stand them but don't make them even more miserable in their skin.
@@epaminon6196 i respect you 100%! you're right. Many masc men keep to themselves. I respect whatever you want to do, it's your life. Just note I'm not taking you home. I respectfully turn them down but many get very aggressive with me saying i only want masc men, misogynistic, not a real gay, etc. You earn respect. I will not be forced to sleep with you.
@@djm2189 Thank you. Passive-aggressively guilt tripping someone who isn't into you into sleeping with you isn't a very masculine thing to do as well. So a good response to drive that fact home to a passive-aggressive fem is to ask them why they are pursuing you in the first place - instead of a more feminine gay man. If they declare that it's because they pursue masculine men over feminine men because of personal preference, you can point to that and announce that the two of you have something in common after all. 😉
This happened to me at a previous job. Although more along the lines of general homophobia. It was a sales position in a VERY male dominated field. I got along very well with the other guys in the office, but I think at some point I may have come across a little “too limp wristed” if you catch my drift… The way I was treated at one point drastically changed with a percentage of my co-workers. No one was outright hostile, but some who had been friendly before were very standoffish and acted as if they wanted conversations with me to end as soon as they began, like they didn’t want to be seen speaking with me. I never acted inappropriately towards anyone or ever discussed my sexuality. The pandemic switch to work from home basically solved that problem for me as I didn’t see any of them again before leaving, but I knew that being elevated to a sales manager over some of them would not have sat well. It’s really unfortunate, but I made good money and got out.
0:54 The shokt moments remind me of that "What actually happens when gay guys see other gay guys and straight people aren't around" skit of Brian Jordan Alvarez.
0:49 this had me rotf because it is just too on point. There is a level of envy within the gay community that is tiresome. It gets even worse between different factions, whether it be fem or masc, black or white, rich or poor, etc. As an older black gay man I've never really felt included in the gay community, such as it is. I'm pretty much a loaner these days.
At one of my first jobs out of college my coworker called out the fact that I lowered my voice when I answered the phone. I wasn't aware that I even was doing it but sure enough there it was. That conditioning we go through as children and young adults can be really tough to break free from.
I was in army ROTC in college and we had a pretty fem gay guy in charge of our unit and even as a gay man myself I was skeptical. But he ended up leading the best unit at our school.

I think it’s true. I’ve heard so many straight men (who are allies) say “gay guys are funny”. Funny ppl aren’t taken very serious in roles of responsibility.
