  • This is the very last interview with legendary Gary Usher, recorded in early 1990. Also featured here are Art Fein, Domenic Priore and Mark Deaver. The 30 minutes show was planned to be a Surf & Hot Rod Bonanza but soon turned into an interesting Byrds discussion. The Part 2 program with Gary Usher mentioned never materilized.
Sadly, Gary was far from well at the time and died of lungcancer on May 25 1990. He will always be missed. A great guy!

Wow ! This must be one of the most unique things on TH-cam. An American music legend of the highest magnitude. Wish it had been 3 hours instead of 30 minutes. Forget Phil Spector - Gary Usher is the KING producer !!!

I wish this had actually featured Gary Usher as he was the talented one with the direct involvement in some of the most iconic music in rock'n'roll history! And he seems to have been incredibly gracious and down to earth.

Thank you so much for posting this incredible video. This is treasure ! I have so much respect for Gary Usher and the amazing work he did. His songs with Brian Wilson will and have stayed with me all my life. Remember hearing them in the early '60's. It is wonderful that Dehmian Usher has posted here. This has made my day. Thank you so very much. Great music such as Gary's will live on forever.

Fantastic to see this and some fascinating insight from the legendary Gary Usher, especially with the revelation that he and Brian Wilson sung falsetto on Deadman's Curve. Never knew that. Such a shame that he passed away so many years ago (he didn't look terribly well on here). The mastermind behind so much incredible music, a lot of which has been passed over for years. One question, though: why end with The Surfaris' version of Hot Rod High (although Gary produced it) and not The Super Stocks/Hondells version?

The stuff concerning AIP soundtracks that Mr. Usher worked on is really cool to learn about. Thanks for doing that interview with Gary and sharing it!

One of my favorite albums is The Notorious Byrd Brothers produced by Gary Usher and I think he made a difference. The quality of sound and the arrangements were superb. I wish he could have produced all subsequent Byrds albums which were uneven in their quality, in spite of the excellence of the musicians.
