    Beautiful engine but you Sir run it for few seconds only ! I had to see it for little more hours because I love engines very much from my boyhood.

      You are right of course, Bijan, but I had already drained the water and removed the bulk water tank, I used to cool it. Nothing gave me more pleasure than the sound of it thudding away doing usefull work.
      I have a 30 HP Danish Asaa twin flywheel diesel waiting for the bore to be de-glazed and that will one day be used to provide 3 phase for my workshop, via a flat belt and I shall harvest the warm water, too. And sit and listen to it as well.
      Thanks George.

    Thank you for the video. Very interesting. I had a Blackstone engine too, but less powerful - a 27HP air-start spring-injection one that used to run some drum-roasters in Tivetshall Maltings in Norfolk. After setting it up at home (Denton in Norfolk) and running it a number of times, I sold it to a museum in Wales. I think there is still one like it at Denver. John Fearnley.

      +Federico Centola Hi Frederico, Thanks for the comments. The engine is actually a Type EHE and like I said, I cannot find any references to any others like it. The full story of it's history and how I got it back to UK from the Arabian Gulf is told on my website : www.maribelecosystems.co.uk/OldEngines.html When I was there I saw a lot of JP twin flywheel models, but no others like this. Best regards George.

    Hello George, just seen your video of your EH blackstone. I was a Blackstone apprentice when these were in production. I persuaded the company at the end to donate one of these which was left in a hedge bottom at Samford to the Anson museum . Sorry to let you know its not the only one in UK. Les Reid, Newark

    • @georgebell4631
      @georgebell4631  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Les, You are the first chap who I have come across who seems to know anything about these engines. I did get a handbook from Blackstone in the seventies from someone in the Company, but the next time I wrote to them there was no answer and I found out that it had been taken over, I think. I would like to meet up and go and see the Museum. I used to have an Auntie in Newark and so I know it is not too far from Norwich!
      I shall look up the Anson Museum, ( is that from the Aeroplane?) I sold my EH last year, so I am not at all upset about it not being the the only one, in fact I would like to see UK crowded with them!
      Thanks for contacting me, I am sure we will have a lot to talk about
      With my best regards, George.
      PS. All my contact details are on my website. maribelecosystems.co.uk

      Thanks Jimmy, I have sent a longer reply to Daniel below with a lot more det,ails of this engine. I am also resurecting the www.maribelecosystems.info website but it is not .com or even .uk.co I lost them to a past service provider who was charging me a small fortune to even look after my address after I could not afford to pay all the hosting fees. They created a website that I did not want and charged me for all the programs they used and the monthly bills got so expensive I just could not afford to leave it as they left it and at the end. I had to give them the address because, I could not afford to leave it with them,or ask for it back, either. My daughter who is a very clever girl created this and paid the 3 years hosting charges and is in the process of adding picture appropriate to the text, she has already done quite a lot of them, as I gradually let her know which pictures go with which text.
      Regards to all, and thanks for all the kind comments and all the critical ones as they are worth a lot, too.

    One of those very well built Blackstone closed crank case horizontal engine running on crude oil/ diesel. Most horizontal engines are open crank case with drip feed oil lubrication. Did not see water cooling set up. Is that why you shut it off? How often did you change engine oil in these? Thank you for the show.

    • @georgebell4631
      @georgebell4631  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day, Raj. The earlier engines did have open cranks, As they permit the viewer a more interesting picture, which is nice, they did not have the protection that full enclosure gives, which is certainly not nice!
      If I was going to run the engine for a longer period, I used a 40 gallon of water which circulated by thermosyphon circulation, the hot water in the engine came out of an outlet at the top and went to a pipe at the bottom of the tank. then this water rose to the top of the tank and was heated by passing up through the water jacket inside the engine. This saved the cost of a pump. For a short run, I used to just fill the water jacket with water. There was a lot of oil in the sump and I used to top it up - if necessary, before each run, when I pumped the cold oil round the system. A full oil change would have been expensive and I did not put the engine to a lot of use! Thanks for the interest. Regards George.

    Thank your George from your responds, i saw that there is same engine in my country and now is for sale, I'm interested to buy the said engine and my plan is to use for generator to drive the 35 KVA of dynamo, i agree that stationary diesel engine is economical to operate in terms of fuel consumption.

    Hi! George i have question on you, how many liters of diesel fuel in every hour consumed by that engine and about the spare parts it is easy to find? Thank you...

    • @georgebell4631
      @georgebell4631  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rommel,
      When I first exhibited the Blackstone I did not have a tank fitted so I rigged up a one gallon can of diesel connected by a plastic pipe on a stake banged into the rally field. I started it at about ten in the morning on a slow tick-over and no load and it was still running OK at the end of the rally about 5 hours later. Driving a 50 HP load would use a lot more! It was designed to run for long periods at a maximum of about 500 rpm. Usually from a huge bulk tank for pumping water.
      Spares would be a problem as Blackstone, although they existed when I acquired the engine, do not exist as a separate company now. I have fabricated smallish parts in my workshop.
      I am now restoring an Indian Kirloskar 2 cylinder Diesel of about 11 Hp and I will take a few photos of that when I can get it out of the depths of my workshop, which is a bit cluttered. I have just finished the preparation of a 1970 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible, which will be for sale and it was displayed at a rally we held in our village of Rackheath Norfolk. The Rackheath Vintage Fayre of the 22nd May last. See my website below. For Sale.
      Regards George.

    Hi,,,George ,the small engine is a Brig Stratton or other trademark??? the small engine makes a lot of force to try to start the huge engine. Nice video,,,,very slow engine 250 rpm i suppose,,,,the power,,,,10,,,,,15 hp??????is enough for an slow enginne. very good video....if yoou read me,,,please,,,answer,,thanks,,,,daniel from Argentine

    • @georgebell4631
      @georgebell4631  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments Daniel. It is rated at 50 hp but delivered fairly slowly,. the starter motor is from a Chinese generator set and is about 4 HP but geared down by the belts. I burnt out the alternator from this set when a water pump seized up and I found clouds of smoke coming from trhe alternator which had no overload protection at all! this was the first time I ran it, that why I used the engine as it had not been damaged. The history of the Blackstone and how I rescued it is on the website below but It is taking a while so there are not many pictures as yet
      I have started to populate a revived website called after my wife, called www.maribelecosystems.info and there will be a lot of information about other things like a car and lorry, crushing plant that I managed to get working for a company who shipped it out to Abu Dhabi from UK and could not find out why it did not worki when they tried to test it. I just had the right skills to fix it all in about ten afternoons. They could not pay me so I used to have the freedom of the site and anything I wanted. This is how I collected a number of Chevrolet small block V8 engines which I will never use now. They were spares for my 1970 Corvette which I had to sell a few years ago.
      Best wishes, George.

    • @georgebell4631
      @georgebell4631  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comments Daniel. I would not like to run it as fast as that! It is 30 HP and on a slow tick over it will run for hours on a gallon of diesel. Several people have suggested an electric starter and if I still had the engine I would probably use that. I just thought it would be a bit more interesting to have two engines one last time I took it to a Rally.. By the way, the full story of how I found it, including bringing it back to UK is on my website: www.maribelecosystems.info

      By comparison Steve I weigh 77 KGs. the Blackstone is about 3,000. That is a lot more than me. It is a bit of a handful towing. See rescue details above Old Engines Maribelecosystems.info. And I would hate to drop it on my toe. It will always be Big to me! Thanks for the comment anyway, Regards George.
