Mam....ester grop is EWG or EDG? Bcoz in ester X=C : Y=O...here electronegativities of Y is greater than X .so EWG.....but you told ester group is a moderate ERG....I don't understand mam..plz reply...tq mam

It depends on how the ester is connected to the ring. If the carbonyl is directly attached to the ring, it will be acts as EWG meta Director...But if the oxygen attached to the ring (Eg. acetylated phenol), it will acts as ERG and so will be ortho/para director.
