    Thank you 🙏 going on our first trip tomorrow, I was watching other videos that made me so nervous, I really like how much you talk about the kids having a great time, and that is the reason why my husband and I are trying this🤗

    While I am experienced in towing a caravan, you made the RV look exciting for short trips. A great presentation. Phil.

    Nice review. We have owned an RV for many years and met some of the nicest folks in campgrounds. Talk to older timers in the RV parks. Share a campfire. You’ll get all kinds of tips and tricks from experienced RVers. We are always happy to help newbies.

    Great tips! I'm thinking the 4 day max is a great idea. My husband gifted me a travel flashlight while "senior dating" & it goes everywhere with me now. I carry a sharpie already & would not have thought of that in an RV. I love the idea of string lights & do you think a travel clothesline would work to "air out" the towels??? In the past I always camped with an old fashioned "roll up" vinyl shade, for table cover, mattress cover, but maybe it could also be used for mud tracks. I love the idea of the vinyl table cloth at the door! Funny you mentioned Cousin Eddie, as that what I think about when "dumping" gray water. And I'll always travel with my cheap flip flops because of those "variable" shower floors (yuk!) And thank you for reminding about the water usage and packing the gloves. Now I need to watch again....

      @wandrousvindella716 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TravelTipsbyLaurie good morning~ I don't see a comment on this, but I'm confusing you with my Charleston comments. I see I asked you about a clothesline, but I'm guessing it would have to be strung on the inside of camper (while away) as I didn't know so many camp sites have "rules". I guess if you boondock you can "air your laundry" ?

    Thanks! We're are just starting to try to figure out the world of RVs. Second guessing my fantasy of going 14 days on a first run!

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm 14 days on your first try? It can be done. Is it just two of you? Then it definitely can be done. Also, after Hurricane Harvey flooded laundry, I found out that adding a cup of Pinesol to your regular laundry load (just pour it on the clothes) along with your regular amount of laundry detergent gets out the damp smell. Hope that helps. What a wonderful time to RV! Maybe you could budget a night in a hotel halfway through-a good hotel. Our Express hotel was not that high quality and the bed and pillows were awful.

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, we just got back from our second rental. It's a 30 foot, but they make one that is smaller. The 30 foot was like driving a truck with no shocks lol. Anyone could do it. It's not like driving a motor home; those steering wheels are way huge! Have fun!

    This is perfect! Just what I’ve been looking for! Our family lives in the east, but we’re dying to get out and see some of the national parks out west. We thought this might be the perfect way ( fly out and rent an RV). Any thoughts on how to keep out the damp?

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1380beagle, thank you for saying that! First of all, it's going to be dry weather! WOOHOO! So dry! But, I learned after Hurricane Harvey to wash clothes/towels with regular detergent and a 1/4 cup of pinesol. I even do that with my towels that start smelling a little musty at home. My parents were teachers so we camped in a pop up for five weeks out west when I was little. Broaden your horizons! And talk to people near you. Campers love to talk while camping.

    Thanks Laurie, My wife and I are going to rent the same size RV,, driving 2500 miles in 17 days. Was the RV easy to drive and what were the MPG for your trip. You have
    given us some excellent ideas for our senior adventure. We are flying into Calgary and renting from Canadream 50% discount on mileage plus 10% total off. You talked me into renting the pots the string of lights we will purchase there so to bring back something I will get those clips. Safe travels to you. We rented from CA in the 90s when our 3 children were young great time in the Rockies. Everyone was sleeping and dad just unplugged and drove to our next stop.

      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a very helpful video. We are trying to decide between renting a class c motor home or renting a large van and doing motels (4 adults and 2 preschoolers). May I ask how you handled side trips (tourist attractions), as in car rental or driving the motor home to site see.

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kris, thank you so much for watching and commenting. That was our concern for future trips. We knew we could make major grocery runs at the beginning of each stay. We didn't make too many outings except to eat out or see something every other day I think. We also researched where to park so we were inbetween things we wanted to see/do so that we could walk and not have to keep moving the RV. Maybe a bike rack? Hope it's a wonderful trip!

    Hi, how about fuel..? How much gallon per mile?

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching, Sou_Nerd. It's kind of like getting a rental car; you are supposed to return it with the same fuel amount you left with. And you are allowed an amount, like ours was 500 miles. Then, anything over that you do have to pay 50 cents per mile. But my husband got out an old school map and plotted the miles we would go from city to city, and that's how we decided on 500. But we knew we wouldn't drive around the towns much; just park it at the camp site, go eat or to a store once per place. Hope this helps.

    • @chrisreynolds6391
      @chrisreynolds6391 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assume 10mpg for preliminary calculations. 500 miles, 50gallons $150.
      But remember the rule about cost "if you have to ask... You probably can't afford it."

  • @pongching8697

    I'm thinking about doing a 14 day national park RV trip, but a bit concerned about where I can find shower places. How did you deal with showering as you mentioned you did. It use the shower in your RV much?

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What a beautiful trip! One of the boys took a shower, but we would not have even been able to stand in ours. The floor was about a foot off the floor and the shower head would've been at my chest. Research your size RV to help with that concern. It would've also made a ton of "gray" water (water that goes into a tank and has to be released) so you'd have to be hooked up somewhere soon. Remember when you wash dishes or hands, that water goes into a tank. It is a separate tank from the toilet tank though. Maybe you could bend over and wash your hair in the shower or sponge bath it. Have a fabulous time!
