    Thanks for posting. I wish I had found this a while ago. I had a no spark with my civic EK9, and after following the std coil test assumed that it was OK. We then spent ages testing all the wires from the ECU to the dizzy and surprise surprise, it all checked out fine. As a last resort I put a new coil in …….and it fired up 🙄

    Great Video! I just replaced my coil today after 220,000 miles! Glad it’s running like a champ again! Thank you!

    Just saved me from buying a $300 distro. Luckily it was just a $68 coil and I would've never known had I not seen this. so thank you.

      Robert Landrum yeah most of the time if you crank it but it won't start it's either fuel or ignition. the fuel systems are pretty sturdy so the first thing I check if I have spark and if I don't then I start working my way back from the spark plugs to the wires to the dizzy

      Situated illness Yeah knew I had fuel and no spark but didn't know how to diagnose the coil and igniter. Now I know and luckily it was just the coil.

    I did exactly what you said to test the ICM and only difference is mine blinked red instead. Got green when I just test to see if there was power and it lighted green, just flashed red when cranked over. Does that mean it's bad or does it just mean I'm getting high power thru it. Your test showed green flashing when mine is red flashing while cranking and got confused.

      Did you hook the positive up to the positive battery terminal? And check on the point I showed? You can also leave it all hooked up with the cap off and crank it and hold the light close to the spring and see if a spark jumps the gap. Hold it like 3 mm away. If it’s red though I’d say icm is bad. But these are so finicky. I’m going could over plug here soon.

      @@situatedillness Yes, positive to battery came up green touching negative on ignition coil and when cranked it over it flashed red. The manufacturer says red means high voltage. I'm wondering if there is only 12v when red to battery and neg to coil until you crank it and then it has a higher voltage hence the red flashing...? WDYT?

    But how did it sound when trying to crank? Did it give you a rapid ticking sound?

    U can check if the coil is good by putting the tester light hook up to negative and the point of the tester close to the spring if it shoot spark to the tester light is good :)

      If you watch the video it walks you through how to test for spark at certain places. I don’t know it could be a few things. Ignition coil, which in your case I doubt, or could be bad plugs, bad cap and rotor in the dizzy, bad set of wires, etc.

    A quick and nasty way I check for spark by myself is to use my phone as a camera, put the wire and plug touchng the engine block and record if there is a spark.

    Bro I get a code9 obd1. It was when I changed the rotor, cap, spark plugs/ and wire set, and ignition coil

      Artie Sanchez ok it is related to a few things. the first thing after checking my manual (Hanes repair manual) is to check the ECU. Google integra repair manual and download it. there is a way to test the system in there for #9 code. too much info to explain here on how to do it

    • @situatedillness
      @situatedillness  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Artie Sanchez do an ECU reset and go from there

      I get it sometimes time is so short, we just throw parts at it and say a prayer. I think this video gives a good indication how to diagnose. I would suspect that the distributor that you bought is aftermarket, made in china, and is not working. Better is to keep the old distributor and replace the ignition components with Honda Factory parts. Not just oem, but factory.
