I feel like the most important thing, by a long shot, is sound quality and the momentum 4’s win in that department. Therefore the momentum 4’s are the winner for me. You can throw in as many gimmicks as you want but if they don’t sound good, they aren’t worth the money.
I would say being comfortable wearing them is the most important. If you have amazing sound quality but after half an hour your head needs a rest then what's the point
Interestingly, I sold my XM4s a week ago and got the Momentum 4s. The M4's software issues are mostly fixed through software updates (Currently on version 2.19.12). I've travelled with the M4's in the case, flipped them upside down and to the side, and they didn't turn on. Seems like they adjusted the sensitivity. The wear sensors also work 100% now. They also always connect to my phone when they turn on now. One last thing about the M4s - they do have slightly more clamping force than the XM4s but the earcups are deeper and angled. When wearing the XM4s for longer than an hour or two, the earpads would compress enough that my ears would lightly rest on the inside drivers. However, the M4's earcups are deep enough that my ears never touch the drivers. They're actually quite similar to how the Bose QC45's earcups are internally, which I've tried in-store.
@@FrozenAXL they’re around 50-60 percent better IMO. They do everything better from soundstage, imaging, less bloated midbass but deep subbass, balanced mids and highs.
Ok so I had both the xm5 and the momentum 4. I gotta say this: Sony will spoil you with the noise cancelation and those app features. However - and this is important - the momentum 4 is the winer here because the noise cancelation is just a touch weaker than the Sony's. That means that you will not hear any noise once your music is on. You will only hear some high pitch sounds when you're not playing music. And the cabin pressure thing is not there either. The sound quality in the momentums is on a pro level when compared to Sony's, cause the Sony's sound is... just playing music... and the momentums sound much like the instruments of the song were right there in front of you. You will notice that when you play live concerts or classical music. But also in the details eg in some progressive tracks. Trust me their sound is BIG and Sony's sound like a regular set of headphones compared to momentum's. And they are more comfy too, cause in my example Sony's earpads just touched my ears on the edges and it felt a lil bit like you were having that rubber cap on your head when you go swimming. The Sony's are objectively better in noise cancelling but when you try the momentums you will forget the Sony's. I tried these in a really old and loud, shaking train and the noise around me wasn't like completely gone but the ANC was good enough to make me not notice it at all. Sony's ARE better, but you don't need it. Plus the sound... Oh and regarding the issues. I haven't noticed any of those mentioned in the video. The reviewer here is probably using one of the first peaces. Right after launching the app there was an update with some fixes and they even included the 5 band EQ.
@@TheWolod I am literally torn between deciding either the Momentum 4 or XM5. Personally, noise cancelling is important but I would prioritise sound quality over it. Momentum 4's would suit me?
I am really leaning towards the M4s. Is it possible to disable the auto-on feature? It would just annoy me a lot if they turned on and paired in the case. Oh, and how are the touch controls after long term use? Do all of them work properly?
@@gneben2082 I bought the Sennheiser M4s 2 days ago and just returned them today. For some reason the brand new headphones creak when i turn my head or do sudden movements, which apparently is a common issue after doing some research online. I switched it for the XM5 and no issues so far, noise cancelling is phenomenal and sound quality is amazing. just my 2 cents.
So i bought the Sennheiser's , and I can tell they are fucking great , I have tried the xm5 and yes the anc is slightly better but the momentum kills it on the sound department. Also as I have read varied reviews 2 problems that people were saying are now fixed . 1) The sound imbalance is not there i checked them thoroughly. 2) The random turning on is fixed for the most part. A big thanks to the people who were recommending it in the comments. ✌️
@@kalifvision I don't buy HEADPHONES to speak.. I buy them to listen... they could come with no microphones at a lower price and it'll be a better option.
@@RotaryPokemon First. ANC headphones needs several microphones for noise cancelling. Second. You may want them for both music and calls in the office, especially when home office became common. And you absolutely want wireless microphone which picks your voice better than voice of your colleagues. Third. Don't expect you want what people need better than then themselves. Open headphones without microphone and with audiojack (or usb and integrated dac/amplifier) are surely better for listening music at the same price, but for office environment, they are absolutely useless.
The mic in fact does work usb C, just saying. Sennheiser also makes a wireless usb adapter called the BTD600 that can be used to take advantage of aptx adaptive on devices that don't support it such as computers or game consoles. They are a do it all powerhouse.
@@McmeYTman Is modern AptX adaptive needed for better sound while using microphone? Cause I have 5 years old Sennheiser PXC550 having just AptX and sound quality is **awful** when some application requests microphone and headphones switch to headset mode. It does not matter if it's used via BT or USB, cause I think USB connection is used for tunneling bluetooth data. In theory, headphones can be used as USB soundcard, but they are not. And I'm sure someone complained about the same on other headphones.
i got the XM4 and momentum 4 Quality : the xm4 feel more premium than the momentum 4 Sound : i prefer the momentum 4 by far Noise Canceling : Xm4 Battery : Momentum 4, what else ? Call : Momentum 4 in overall, i like the momentum 4
What did you mean by quality? Like the build and feel of the product? Would you say the durability of the XM4 is better than Momentum 4, or does 'premium'-ness differ from the durability?
Thank you for the ANC analysis, often numbers alone are not the best indicator for comparing that kind of performance. I'm a sucker for sound quality, so the Sennheiser M4s were my first choice. The software issues have been resolved as in firmware 2.9.12. My big head has not issue with them, and now I'm convinced that they outperform Sony's XMxs where I care, sound quality and battery life.
I had the XM3s and loved them. I really hated to have to sell them a year ago. But from the sound of things I think I'm going to go for the Momentum 4s when I get a replacement for them later this year. Their quirks won't really bother me that much, and by far the most important things to me are ANC and sound quality.
i also have the XM3s and honestly no complaints but one... as a person with long hair they're a nightmare because of the metallic bands. They wrap around my hair like no tomorrow, so the XM4s look promising.
@@sofialee2471 The XM4 does really well, and from a sound quality standpoint, the XM4 is a nice step up when using noise cancelling. The XM3 gets a bit muddy in the lows during NC use. Did you end up with XM4's?
It seems most 'smart' features (e.g. wearing sensors, adaptive ANC, automatic power on) become problematic for many users. Companies being proud about them, and not allowing users to turn them off, doesn't help.
Sometimes simplicity is key and cost effective. I want sound quality and comfort first. Wireless, good battery life is nice. Everything else are selling point gimmicks.
I just added the XM4s to my arsenal of 12 over the ear headphones and I'm not disappointed at all. I love all the little differences these headphones have, so it's been a fun hobby to get into. I agree, my Sennheiser M4s are a pure joy to listen to. However, the ladt two cans i bought, these XM4s and Bose QC45 are really great sets. Excellent video, great content.
Which would say sound BETTER! Is the difference in sound between the XM4s and M4s a major difference to sway your buying option in one way or the other? I have heard the M4s produce great bass but start sounding distorted at higher volume compared to the XM4s. I've also heard with an adjuatee EQ the XM4s can match the M4s highs and clarity without compromising the good bass.. what's your take? I'm torn between the 2.
Thanks for the comprehensive review! I owned XM5 for a while, so while I'm pretty satisfied with it, I feel that the sound quality could be much better for the price tag. I'm eyeing future Senny headphone in the future for the better sound quality in general
That's why I've been in the audio industry... my entire life! It is 100% subjective! What is great for you... is a nongo for someone else. That's why we have so many choices. Most important... everybody's hearing is different. There is simply... no best of anything! It's simply what sounds, looks, and works the best.... for you!!! Not anybody else! Nice vid!
picked these up a few weeks back, they sound the best, i prefer the feel and look of the sony..paring with the momentum’s to the tv ipad i’ve had issues where there is no sound, had to turn the device of and on to work..either way they both are great headphones and cost the same price in australia, happy with the purchase
Hello, just discovered this video and I have to say it the best review I've seen/heard for the xm4 vs xm5 which is exactly what I was looking for. You went to into every flaw I could be concerned with along with highlighting the positives. Great job overall (I never leave comments on social media, that's how great I think your work is on this video)
I've watched many of your videos, but this really made me appreciate how you look at all the details and give a very balanced and considered view. Thanks.
I kept on comparing the xm4 and 5s and theM4 with video reviews and written reviews. I got more confused. I remembered when I bought my surround sound system I just listened to plenty of speakers in stores. I decided to do the same thing now. I bought the M4s! Y? I use them in my home with my iPhone and surround sound. No traveling no outside noise. Queens what they R awesome. On sale Labor Day for $264
I got my sony xm3s over 3 years ago. I have a small head and its hard to find headphones that fit good over the ear. I have worn the xm3's for 10 hours at a time and honestly forgot I had them on. For my head shape they are so comfortable. Clamp force is perfect. Speaking to build quality I have spilled stuff on them, stepped on them, detailed cars in 100 degree heat wearing these during the summer seasons, done yard work and I use them for work. They are still ticking. I have been hard on them and they have held up great. I got a gift and figured I will give th xm5's a shot. I actually like the design of the 3's and 4's over the new ones. I don't give care there is a lot of plastic they are built like f*kin tanks. If the 5's don't blow me away I'll send back for a set of sony 4's. I will stay with sony due to build quality and comfort. They have blown me away in that dept.
I have the XM4s and am gonna be buying the XM5s because the XM4s create a pressure spot on the top of my head and they are unusable after an hour. I think head shape is a big factor. The XM5s exert no pressure on the top of my head. So yeah, try before you buy!
Absolutely amazing. While wearing my M5 through my phone while watching the video through my desktop, I found myself shutting off my desktop to go to sleep. I couldn't hear what you were saying which is exactly what any good programmer is looking for. They totally blew away the Bose 35 that my wife bought me last year but came in close to my M3s that I keep at the office. Maybe, I am now too tired to think about it, but I did get a problem solved even though my wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law are downstairs. Not that I was aware of that due to my new M5s. None of the points that you were looking at but all of the points that any good programmer working in a typical office are looking for. Key points it makes your co-workers disappear audibility.
Sennheiser also has longer warranty (2 years) than sony (1 year). I had a recent ANC malfunction in my 1000xm4 (high pitched nose, see numerous reddit discussions) after using it for 14 months and sadly it is no longer covered by warranty.
I have the XM3 the Momentum 2, 3 and 4 wireless and I don't understand how people can say the ANC on the Momentum 4s is practically or very near on par with the Sony. It's just not true. The ANC on the M4 is a bit better than on the M3, which have very bad ANC, but Sony's is way better, not even close. The battery life is the best thing about the M4. I also can't agree with the comfortabilty everyone says about the M4. I think the XM3 are much more comfortable. I even think the M3 are slightly more comfortable than the M4. I have about 10 negative points with the M4 compared to maybe 1 or 2 good points and I'm a Sennheiser fan. I'm very disappointed with the new M4. The build quality is a joke also. The hinges creak like I've never heard from a new headphone whenever slightly moving the head and the sound just goes distant when slightly pushing on the outer side and then releasing. Imo they're worth no more than 50 bucks.
It's always the downside of these static tests. The roadside test and coffee test is just a generic Internet sound. In real life, Sony performs very very good. Real life is walking through a dynamic city, going into tunnels, sitting in trains, working at the office and eating lunch or somewhere. All together, the Sony are really good. I can't imagine anything else being much better or similar.
I never travel on airplanes nor do I need to stay focused in crowded areas. I just want headphones for music. Momentum 4 suits me better but since the import tax increase in Malaysia, sony headphones are just cheaper than Sennheiser here.
Thank you for all the information but I don’t think Sony put enough upgrades into the xm5’s therefore I will stick with my xm4’s until there next edition. I enjoy your reviews they are always very informative and detailed. 😊
@@GYMCADDY I know you used to love the sr30bt. How about trying the new Ath m20xbt? I returned my Sony xm5 bc I don't need anc. I put some brainwavz pads and these are amazing 😍. I got them for $70 discount on Amazon I think they are $79 now. I'd like to know what you think. ✌️
Came off the back of using the XM3 and had the choice to upgrade to the XM5 or try something new. I opted for the Momentum 4 . I can't judge between the XM5 and the Momentum 4 , but I can tell you that the 4 is amazing. I like Sony products and have a tendency to stick with them. Maybe age or just curiosity is taking over, but unless you venture once or twice to other pastures you could be missing a good opportunity. I guess once these momentum 4's give up I'll probably take another look a what Sony has to offer. I haven't got one grumble with the 4's so far.
I actually bought XM4 and I was in for major disappointment. After two weeks I called Sony and they said my color just went out of stock and to wait till the next year (!). Then they didn't want to send me different color because 'it's different item' (we're talking exact same model and price just different color) so I had to cancel order to order different color. Cancellation process took them few days to complete (that's before they started processing a refund). After I finally got the XM4 it turned out they're faulty. Left noise cancelling mic was not working so it was painful to wear them with the noises it produced. Online support somehow tried to tell me it's normal/it's my fault and if I want them to look at it I'd have to pay!. I went to the physical store and the guy tested it and told me that indeed it's faulty and to get a replacement from online as I bought it online. So I asked for replacement or refund. They asked me 'so which one you want'. I said: 'if you have a working model available this year I'll take it'. They said: 'oh this is popular fault and most likely the replacement will also have it (!) so we will just organise a refund'. Still waiting for that refund but I was shocked how they suddenly casually admitted that most of their stock is faulty so there is no point of even replacing it. Anyway my last time with Sony.
so what i can conclude is the XM5 is basically just a better looking XM4, bcs look wise, most ppl including me, prefer that clean look, the similar vibe to Bose 700, that friction based headband actually look sleeker, but besides that it's not really better than the now much cheaper XM4
If money is a concern the xm4 is a better buy from my experience with both I do much prefer the xm5 overall I feel it’s definitely an improvement but the choice is up to you
Even though I prefer the xm4, the mic on the xm4 is so bad that I don't have any choice and have to buy xm5. Obviously I need them to attend meeting and do calls.
Labor Day sale after a lot of comparisons bought the M4s. I'm not traveling, not using them outside unless it's on my deck. Using them for movies and music, mostly movies(surrounded sound)they r awesome. Action scenes are incredible dialogue clear sound tracks insane. Paid $264 I'm very very happy.
Fantastic review, thank you. I've made my decision to get the Momentum 4s based off your analysis, thanks so much specifically for mentioning long term comfort! I have a big head and big ears, stuff sucks with most headphones.
They are only that loud. Don't use any equalizer on the app, but the sound personalisation feature, it will help to boost everything in that headphones. But again they will not get very loud even on a normal listening you would need your volume at 85 percent
I’m getting the Xm4’s for my birthday this year. I am pretty excited to hear how good the bass sounds including the noice canceling. It will be my second most expensive set of headphones. Sony is one of my favorite brands which is why I chose the Xm4’s in particular. I’m looking forward to try them out
@@zonnebloemsummer6435 I don’t have them yet but I’ll update you on the bass when I finally try the headphones on. My birthday isn’t for a couple months so I’ll be waiting for awhile. I’m still excited about getting them because it’s gonna be the best pair of headphones I’ll ever own. just in case I forget to update you on the headphones just reply to this comment and I’ll be sure to respond back. my birthday is on August 9th to be exact so I have about 5 months until I get them
First I ordered the Bose QC Ultra which I loved in terms of comfort and feel, but was disappointed that the sound didn't seem as open, and the bass was weak. The EQ setting on the app does little to nothing. Highly disappointing. So I ordered the M4s to compare. Honestly, the M4s sound was superior. The bass was really nice. But on both of them the volume doesn't go as loud as I desire. Unfortunately I returned to M4s ONLY because the clamping pressure on my ears were too much. They didn't feel as comfortable as the QC Ultra. I was feeling too much tension in my head while wearing them. So now I just ordered the XM4s. I tried them on at Best Buy and they were very comfortable, comparable to the QC Ultra. Now, its a matter of sound quality, openess and bass. This is my first time purchasing a set of solid headphones, and lawd knows I didn't think it would be this stressful. Lol
Quick one here: on the initial parts of the video you mentioned that the Sannheisers would automatically connect to your device once removed from their case. But later on you raise a con that compared to the Sonys, the Sannheisers had an issue reconnecting to your device automatically. How do you draw the line on that?
One of the crucial issue I have with all of these comparison, is that there is no comparison made with wired sound. The biggest problem with these headphones are that they might use processes for processing sound that might not give you the sound quality you want. When you might want to be able to find a good compromise between none-compress audio through wired connection and also having Bluetooth option when needed.
late 2024, I have no used my new momentum 4 for 2 weeks and the sound quality is worth it. I've used mainy sony for wirelss over the years, much becasue of their ANC but now this SM4 is good enough and sound is not far from my Sennheiser 599. Also Momentum 4 with a good wire 2,5 - 3,5 mm cable they sound even better, a big thing for me since they can be used when dead of battery. =)
Personally, the biggest issue I've had with Sony XM4's is the build quality. 1 year after purchase, the ANC on right-side failed, repaired under warranty. 2 years after purchase, the right-side ANC failed again but I was able to somehow fix it by opening the earcup and fiddling with the feedback mic. 2.5 years after purchase, ANC on left-side failed and cannot seem to fix it. So, that's 2.5 years of use from 350€ headphones....
Xm5 is the best for everyday users. I was on the highway in the back with the window open on a windy day and my sister thought I was talking to her in a my condo. The microphones are levels above the momentum 4 and xm4. I noticed with the momentum 4s that you literally have to take the headphones off to use your phone to talk because the sound quality is horrendous and the same goes for the xm4. If your looking for better sound and slightly less bass with better noise cancellation and 8 mic’s go for the Xm5’s they are literally perfect
After watching many reviews including this one I went for momentum 4 headphones, no regrets at all Sound quality is the best and that's the only reason I bought Few problems- bluetooth gets disconnected frequently Right ear cup has all controls but all of a sudden touch controls don't operate Have to take them off and put over again it works
Interesting review. Just goes to show how individual a preference of a housesound is. I cannot get along with the Momentum 4, but the XM4 suits me well. In general, the Sennheiser housesound has never been for me, being it HD600's, HD650's, or HD800s'.But Beyer, Sony, Ultrasone, Shure, AT and others work well. Not sure how Sennheiser does it, but their sound is simply sit too far in the drivers - same issue with AKG. Out of all my collection, my XM4's are definitely my go-to over-ear wireless, especially because wireless is just not where you go for high end audiophile sound - so the sound needs to be fun, lively and easy to listen to.

XM5 are worth the extra buck over the XM4s if you’re gonna use them often for phone calls/teams meeting/zooms etc. They double up as a fantastic work headset if you’re job involves using one.
If it's for that kind of use. not sure I'd ever see an over-ear as the option. True wireless in-ears tend to be designed for this. Both Sony's and Apple's offerings are great for this, with Apple being a bit ahead.
@@AB-80X in-ears simply can´t preventthe person you´re talking to from listening where you are and all. Both the XM5s and the Bose 700 have no rivals as headsets
@@xavierpanohaya2647 "in-ears simply can´t preventthe person you´re talking to from listening where you are and all." What does that mean? I own both the Apple and Sony In-ears, and I also have the XM4 and XM5 overears. If you're seriously suggesting that either of those will be superior to the Airpod Pro 2's in terms of not picking up background noise that the other end is hearing, I think you are simply not talking out of experience. My Airpods are FAR superior to any of my Sony products when it comes to this. When I use my Sony overears I have to be a lot more mindful about what goes on around me, compared to what is needed for the Airpods.
@@xavierpanohaya2647 No, and I did not say I had good ANC. In my actual personal experience, the other end of the line have far superior ANC with my Airpods than they do if I'm using my XM's.
Just purchased the momentum 4...while I find the sound quality is pretty amazing for wireless headphones but just like a pair of wireless headphones I tried from sennheiser long time ago...the sound level is still low...even at max its not very loud.
I noticed that everyone is complaining about sound quality of XM4 and confirm that M4 are much better in that department. Are you using LDAC or you are apple AAC user ? Cause my opinion is a way different.
I would love to recommend the Sony XM4s and XM5s, but it seems their QC sucks. After about 2 years of mild use, I'm starting to get a high pitched noise on the left ear side. This seems to be prevalent among a lot of the units for these models. I just wish I could find something that lasts a lot longer than 2 years without significant issues like that.
Great review. And made me buy the Sennheisers M4. But one question, how can you review the ANC and sound quality when you’re wearing a cap underneath the pads? You loose a lot of impact and ANC efficiency when you have a small gap between the pads and your head.
Which headphones would you recommend I get for my iPhone 14 Pro? It has Bluetooth 5.3 and I was wondering how Sony’s new cans would get on with it, as those are Bluetooth 5.2. However, of the few pairs of wireless earphones I’ve used, including the wireless adaptor my Dad has for his Dr. Dres, there’s always about a second, maybe less, of delay! For latency tests, I plan to use a drumming app.

Do you experience with the Sony Xm4's that on a flight, during take off, the wheels rolling cause alot a crackling and static when ANC is on until u get up in the air? And do the Momentum 4 and XM5'S have this issue?
10:10 now I'm curious to know... which are the best wireless sounding headphonesa out there? Cuz I really thouht it was a dead fight between Sennheiser and Sony atp.
heyy, in this case from my understanding, it reallyy is a dead fight between Sennheiser and Sony in the Noise-Cancelling Headphones category. What he means is that if we only consider the sound quality of Sony as a headphone in general, there are better ones!:) And best headphones, many a time is subjective. depends on the type of music u listen tp=, or if ure watching shows on it. and then it depends on ur budget, and the device u r playing it on. from what i know, sonhy is the BEST all-rounder! to me, im not the biggest fan of its sound because it sounds a little to warm. I prefer the sound of pxc550 ii as it is more neutral and i like the sound stage of it (note that here, im still comparing between 2 ANC headphones specifically). Hope this helps!
Frequent travelers don’t use the case. We throw it in our bag for easier access. You can always see when it’s someone who don’t travel much fiddles with the headphone case.
Bought the special edition momentum 4 (copper) recently. i have not encountered any "bugs" that you have mentioned. I don't own either the xm4 or xm5 so i cant directly compare to it. As mentioned the comfort is not the best for me either but its not like its unbearable. But they do sound good and battery life is amazing. Just those 2 reasons are y i preferred these. I did have audio cut in and out issue on Spotify but no other apps had any issues like TH-cam so maybe a problem of Spotify. Also rarely there are some sound artifacts here and there like a small popping or jittery/dostorty sound that lasts for an instant, i don't know that normal or not for wireless headphones. I wasn't amassed by the anc, its just okay imo and i don't really care about anc in the first place, i wish i could turn it off.
After checking your video with Momentum 4 vs the BOSSES, this is also a great video !!! I only like to remind - the autopower issue of the Momentum4 - nothing like it on my pair from summer 2023. The comfort is also on the BETTER side here. I have the XM4, but the sound of the Sennheiser works better for my ears.
Does anyone know if the auto-on feature of the M4s has been fixed, or whether it is possible to turn it off in the app? And how are the touch controls after long term use? Thanks!
I tested all these headphone and yes the Momentum 4’s sound the best and good enough ANC but the price is steep, the Sony XM5 have the best ANC but are too bulky with a thin headband and the case is awful and a $400 price tag, I would just buy the XM4 which can be had on sale early Black Friday deal for $228 the lowest price I’ve seen for these and a no brainer at that price point.
I wonder if my M4 unit is faulty... there's no passive sound coming through from my phone (does with other headphones powered off). Usb-c wired mode sounds terrible and i need to connect the wire, power off the M4 then back on for it to work properly. My separate Poweramp EQ presets cause distortion with relatively moderate adjustments. Plus its so glitchy in general. Hopefully I can find a store to test another pair.
I wear glasses and am strongly leaning towards getting the M4s, but im concerned about the clamping force. Anyone knows if they get painful after awhile?
I just bought the M4. Sound is very objective so what might sound good to me might not sound good to others. I’m an aspiring music composer and write music for orchestra through digital audio interface. I also listen to lots of music and genres everyday. I tried numerous headphones and I have to say that M4 was an absolute excitement to hear. Clarity and instrument separation and the clear bass for it’s price is remarkable. Not to make this long and answer your question. I kind of have a big head 😂 and I also wear glasses but with all that I’m comfortable with the M4s. I believe that the updates have fixed a lot of system issues as well because after 2 weeks of ownership now I haven’t had the issues that I’ve had seen on many reviews. The only thing that bugs me but I’d totally let it pass because of the great sound is just by a small readjustment it pauses my music. Sorry for the long reply. All the best 🙏
@@fardindaneshmand6704hi! I found your comment was helpful and was wondering if you had an update for how comfortable they are for extended periods of time Thanks!!
Last months i stow my b and w px7 in to my bag instead of my " cheap" jbl free in my pocket. Because i beed to travel by bus instead of a "quiet" train . And the sennheiser case isn't that much smaller or bigger than the px7s case and you never gona manage to lay flat the headphones in your normal size daily base use bag. So well done Sennheiser 👏
What i like about the Sennhieser is the comfort and way better sound than the Sony. Plus when it runs out of batteries you just plug in the jack, download an equalizer app and you're good to go.
The user experience bit has been a challenge with Mometums for sometime now. When they work well they create magic but there are just too many ifs and buts with them. In the war between 'tech' bros and 'sound' companies, the tech guys are winning on the back of overall better experience. The sound guys really need to level up to win this.
Many tests say that the XM4's noise cancelling is much better in the low frequencies, is this true or not? Also, how much of a problem is it that the M4 anc cannot be switched off? This is not mentioned
Great video, I’ve had XM4 since their release for commuting and work and am considering upgrading. One feature that was not mentioned, and is the reason I wouldn’t buy Sony headphones again, is a physical or touch activated mic mute button, which the Momentum 4 does have and for work use is a must seeing as wireless headphone that require me to be at my computer to toggle the mic mute is nothing but an invisible tether.
Is there a good pair of headphones that has the double tap to pause music and turn on transparency mode, has sound quality of the momentum 4s but has the anc of the mx5s?? And of course around the ears ear cups and comfortability and when putting them away in the case, they fold??
I have small ears and th eSony XM3 earcups are too close and the headband starts to get uncomfortable after a while. Comfort and controls are king for me. And comfort sounds the best on the XM4.
i just came back from the store where i tested those three. I must say the comfort is the most important for me, so Sennheiser lost right away (haven't even started listening to music on them because I knew there is no point). XM4 was the winner for me as I didn't see much difference with XM5. I even thought maybe XM5 are even slightly less comfy and less bass and of course more expensive so XM4 all the way. The only other model in the store that I liked was Bose QuietComfort 45. It's certainly lives up to the name but since they were far from each other and I played different songs on them I can't really compare audio quality on them. About the same price as XM4 so we will see on Cyber Monday what's gonna happen with those. My current headphones are Bose though and I can feel after 30 min how uncomfortable they can get. So I'm leaning toward Sony a bit.
Online support somehow tried to tell me it's normal/it's my fault.
Momentum 4 is the best for music but some bluetooth problems , sony is more affordable and sound more engaging with films. My choice is for sony xm4 best q/p.
i set my momentum manually turn on and off.i use high res instead of standard. and aptx HD.. Iike to do things manually. so i hope i can turn off the anc and transparency mode.
Went from a bunch of Beats Studios 2.0 and 3.0 to my current xm4s. Not happy with the smaller driver on the xm5 since I seen too many reviews mentioning the bass lacking even more compared to the xm4 and big time compared to the xm3. Momentum 4s look tempting but so do the AirPods Max
after thus video i am going to buy sony xm5 because of auto sift ambient mode when i am taking to someone and dual pairing option also good noise cancelling price is too high case is bulky easy to get dirty if you even purchase black colour
I bought momentum 4's 3 days ago, before that I owned the last 3 model for a long time, however, I like 4's much better in terms of comfort, but the sound is more difficult to say, even with the equalizer adjusted I can not say that they sound better than the last model, not even better, but a little worse, but the comfort is just another level, very soft and light, I also did not like the fact that they are made of flimsy plastic, and I think that after a while it can break.
Which one has bigger inner earpad size? Just bought M4 and honestly it's too small for my ears, headphones like sennheiser hd380 pro or game zero fit best, unfortuneatly i can't find specs about earpad size for both m4 and xm5
In my headfpones g435/msr7 noise canceling match more comfortable from mx4 cause there is no bass waves at all. But on mx5 and more over on m4 I heair the bass pressure that is annoying

Went from the Momentum 3, to the XM5 and love it
I feel like the most important thing, by a long shot, is sound quality and the momentum 4’s win in that department.
@@pinang1 That's a fair point.
@@pinang1 u can always stretch them out a bit correct?
@@izaigacet9437 not really
How much better? Sony XM3 are my first (and only) flagship, and they didn't sound that much better than you mid to low range.
Thanks Miguel, you have helped me choose. I’m getting the Momentum 4 🙏🏽
I have XM3, and I have to ask - how much better is the sound quality on the M4?
@@FrozenAXL they’re around 50-60 percent better IMO. They do everything better from soundstage, imaging, less bloated midbass but deep subbass, balanced mids and highs.
@Miguel Yusay
Thanks, that sounds a lot better. I really was kinda disappointed with the XM3, I expected a major sound improvement from mid/low range
How's the ANC quality of the M4 vs the XM4?
Thanks for sharing your experience. You convinced me to get the Momentum 4
@@alejandraespinoza9581 wow! Let me know how you like them!

The fact that you can play music through usbc with momentum 4 is a huge plus, might take em just for that
But yet you can’t use the mic with usbc…
And I'm sure someone complained about the same on other headphones.
i got the XM4 and momentum 4
Quality : the xm4 feel more premium than the momentum 4
Sound : i prefer the momentum 4 by far
Noise Canceling : Xm4
Battery : Momentum 4, what else ?
Call : Momentum 4
in overall, i like the momentum 4
What did you mean by quality? Like the build and feel of the product? Would you say the durability of the XM4 is better than Momentum 4, or does 'premium'-ness differ from the durability?
As of recently - Same comparison for me. I haven't really tested call quality. I found the quality to be the same. I kept M4 as sounded better.
What about the built-in-mic? Do they still have the same sound quality? Thanks for your help in advance :)
Do you have the xm5s?
The best review I've watched between these three pairs! Thank you
I had the XM3s and loved them.
Any uptade? What did u end up buying, debating between xm4 and momentum 4
Most of that you can turn off on the sonys

How did you like the 5s?
@@keyanassiri hated them, returned them. Still rocking the 3's.
None of the points that you were looking at but all of the points that any good programmer working in a typical office are looking for.

it makes your co-workers disappear audibility.
Im assuming most of this review is satire but based on the purpose of the headphones
I can't imagine anything else being much better or similar.
you are not a sennheiser fan, and ofc you don't have all those headphones 😂 you are a hater and nothing more
I have them and the Noise Cancelling is great. And as a Xm3 owner id say sennheiser build quality is slightly better. I cant agree with your comment
I never travel on airplanes nor do I need to stay focused in crowded areas. I just want headphones for music. Momentum 4 suits me better but since the import tax increase in Malaysia, sony headphones are just cheaper than Sennheiser here.

Lol
wow awesome review, so much detail!!
2:18 can some tell me has this issue been fixed??
If your looking for better sound and slightly less bass with better noise cancellation and 8 mic’s go for the Xm5’s they are literally perfect
so you use 2 pair of headphones everyday or what , lol
They're super cheap quality and notorius for breaking
After watching many reviews including this one I went for momentum 4 headphones, no regrets at all
Sound quality is the best and that's the only reason I bought
Few problems- bluetooth gets disconnected frequently
Right ear cup has all controls but all of a sudden touch controls don't operate
Have to take them off and put over again it works
How frequently does bluetooth disconnect?
To fix the on off issue when the headphones are in the case, face the cushions of the headphones upwards. I think that fixed the issue for me.
Great review!! just what I needed

Hola, en resumen cuál es mejor en calidad/precio?

"in-ears simply can´t preventthe person you´re talking to from listening where you are and all."
What does that mean?
I own both the Apple and Sony In-ears, and I also have the XM4 and XM5 overears.
If you're seriously suggesting that either of those will be superior to the Airpod Pro 2's in terms of not picking up background noise that the other end is hearing, I think you are simply not talking out of experience.
My Airpods are FAR superior to any of my Sony products when it comes to this. When I use my Sony overears I have to be a lot more mindful about what goes on around me, compared to what is needed for the Airpods.
@@AB-80X earbuds have good ANC for you, but the other side of the line usually still hears EVERYTHING
@@xavierpanohaya2647
No, and I did not say I had good ANC.
In my actual personal experience, the other end of the line have far superior ANC with my Airpods than they do if I'm using my XM's.
Bro really came prepared for the project here this is everything I want to know and more thank you!
VEry well done. Thank you for this comparison review 👍
Для айфон😂😂 Точно не что то из дорогого,потому что в айфоне нет хороших кодеков, которые оправдали бы высокую стоимость,поищите что-то в районе 150-200 долларов с поддержкой кодека ААС и бед не знайте
Do you experience with the Sony Xm4's that on a flight, during take off, the wheels rolling cause alot a crackling and static when ANC is on until u get up in the air? And do the Momentum 4 and XM5'S have this issue?
I was on a flight with them recently and i didnt have any of such issue
10:10 now I'm curious to know... which are the best wireless sounding headphonesa out there? Cuz I really thouht it was a dead fight between Sennheiser and Sony atp.
heyy, in this case from my understanding, it reallyy is a dead fight between Sennheiser and Sony in the Noise-Cancelling Headphones category. What he means is that if we only consider the sound quality of Sony as a headphone in general, there are better ones!:)
And best headphones, many a time is subjective. depends on the type of music u listen tp=, or if ure watching shows on it. and then it depends on ur budget, and the device u r playing it on. from what i know, sonhy is the BEST all-rounder! to me, im not the biggest fan of its sound because it sounds a little to warm. I prefer the sound of pxc550 ii as it is more neutral and i like the sound stage of it (note that here, im still comparing between 2 ANC headphones specifically). Hope this helps!
If all you care about is sound the Sennheiser is better in his opinion and in mine too. You can hear his thoughts around 11:00
Frequent travelers don’t use the case. We throw it in our bag for easier access. You can always see when it’s someone who don’t travel much fiddles with the headphone case.
Agree
And that's why you "frequent travelers" always have to buy new ones every year, 'cause you break 'em lol
How is this Sennheiser compared to the Marshall Monitor II ANC headphone? I have the Marshall and looking for a suitable upgrade. Cheers!
Another thing is the Sony XM4s can be found brand new for less than $300 now. I got mine slightly used for around $180 which is a STEAL in my opinion.
Xm5 is available for 300$
@@maheshmurali2697 where? 🤔
I don't agree with the conclusions (subjective though) but I like the objective overview you provided, definitely helpful comparison!
Thanks!
great review!
I tested all these headphone and yes the Momentum 4’s sound the best and good enough ANC but the price is steep, the Sony XM5 have the best ANC but are too bulky with a thin headband and the case is awful and a $400 price tag, I would just buy the XM4 which can be had on sale early Black Friday deal for $228 the lowest price I’ve seen for these and a no brainer at that price point.
hi! where did you see that deal on the xm4?
BestBuy and Amazon last week early Black friday deal only lasted a day.
@@skyhigh8644 what about the mic quality on calls ?
I found your comment was helpful and was wondering if you had an update for how comfortable they are for extended periods of time
Thanks!!
So well done Sennheiser 👏
nice review thank you!
Glad you liked it
What i like about the Sennhieser is the comfort and way better sound than the Sony.
I appreciate you time doing this video after all said and done which ones would you buy. Sony X5 or Momentum 4?
Momentum 4 if you prefer sound quality and battery life / XM5 if you prefer comfort
I hope I can get a reply, are the Momentum 4 straight up white or a greysh color like the Bose QC45?
i just came back from the store where i tested those three.
Which Bose headphones do you have ?
@@partapbika I don't have time to look for the box but I think they're also QuietComfort, earlier version. They look quite similar.
Online support somehow tried to tell me it's normal/it's my fault.
@@pinang1 I guess in the end Momentum won XD
@@theannualantagonist5930 I'd rather say Sony lost
Momentum 4 is the best for music but some bluetooth problems , sony is more affordable and sound more engaging with films.
My choice is for sony xm4 best q/p.
i set my momentum manually turn on and off.i use high res instead of standard. and aptx HD.. Iike to do things manually. so i hope i can turn off the anc and transparency mode.
Is it okay to go for sony xm5 for sound quality if its fixable with equalizer
How much difference is in xm5 and sm4?please reply
What about sound leakage?
Went from a bunch of Beats Studios 2.0 and 3.0 to my current xm4s. Not happy with the smaller driver on the xm5 since I seen too many reviews mentioning the bass lacking even more compared to the xm4 and big time compared to the xm3. Momentum 4s look tempting but so do the AirPods Max
‘All these head-flowns..’ 3:47
after thus video i am going to buy sony xm5
because of auto sift ambient mode when i am taking to someone
and dual pairing option
also good noise cancelling
price is too high case is bulky easy to get dirty if you even purchase black colour
I bought momentum 4's 3 days ago, before that I owned the last 3 model for a long time, however, I like 4's much better in terms of comfort, but the sound is more difficult to say, even with the equalizer adjusted I can not say that they sound better than the last model, not even better, but a little worse, but the comfort is just another level, very soft and light, I also did not like the fact that they are made of flimsy plastic, and I think that after a while it can break.
thus the momentum for has the same issue now?
Off topic, Does anc works without hearing music? Is it possible to cancel the noise from outside and be complete and solely silent?
The momentum 4 are 217 euro here. I wanted to get the Xm4 but the price got my attention for the Momentus so which one should I get
Which one has bigger inner earpad size? Just bought M4 and honestly it's too small for my ears, headphones like sennheiser hd380 pro or game zero fit best, unfortuneatly i can't find specs about earpad size for both m4 and xm5
xm5
I can hear white noise from the right side when I switch to aware mode, does the model you used in this video have the same symptoms?
Heaven had that issue
@@GYMCADDY Alright….maybe such specification.
Which one is more comfy to wear between xm5 and tm4 guys? I just bought xm4 for $250 and its giving me headache, not comfy to wear at all.
are there any headphones similar to the sennie's quality but use a udb dongle instead of bluetooth?
In my headfpones g435/msr7 noise canceling match more comfortable from mx4 cause there is no bass waves at all. But on mx5 and more over on m4 I heair the bass pressure that is annoying
Its clear from ANC point of view. Both sony xm5s and xm4s blew momentum 4 out of the water!
