Mike. I kid you not, I must have watched over a thousand videos on how to make concrete countertops! Yours are hands down the absolute best! Very informative, straight forward, and to the point. Also, this is the first time I have EVER felt the need to leave a comment on ANY video. Keep up the great work!
I don't think I've ever watched one video and liked, commented and subscribed instantly. Watched the how to make a concrete counter top and did just that. Oh, and shared it as well. And my buddies shared it. Keep up the great work!!!
Mike, I watched your "1-Hour Countertop" video, a couple times, followed all your instructions, and poured my first ever concrete countertop today. It was a great reward to see it release from the mold nearly without a flaw. (Hence me needing to watch the concrete sealer video.) I appreciate your precision with measuring the water/mortar mix, and how well you demonstrate all required techniques of each step. Other videos I have seen are needlessly complicated, especially for a small countertop project, but your video makes the process so approachable. I had a sneaking suspicion it would not actually be as hard as some of these videos make it seem to fab my own countertops, but your video was the catalyst in motivating me to attempt this. I credit you for my success with this, and also wanted to say thanks for a lot of things. Your sense of humor belies the amount of information and expertise needed to be doing what you are doing, and your humility and sincerity are most admirable. Thank you for your generosity in sharing all of that with all of us.
SUGGESTION: How about a video showing how to stain the concrete or mixing a color in with the concrete mixture. Keep up the great work, love the videos!
I agree! I’ve been wanting to do concrete countertops but have been intimidated by it, but you’re convincing me I can do it! Add some color! I need more!
I have a tip for a glaze coat or any two-part mix. Just Mark your mixing stick with 2 even measurements and poor one bottle to the first line and the second bottle to the second line you save 2 mixing cups by doing it this way.
I have another idea. Assuming the two parts have about the same specific gravity (it’ll probably be close enough), use an inexpensive electronic kitchen gram scale. Tare. Pour the first one. Tare. Pour the second one to the same mass.
Pouring my kitchen today. Everything done, just the poor left. I have been struggling to find info on sealants for it. I'm in Australia but this helped a lot thank you.
This is golden. I've been looking to diy countertops and no one talked about great sealers. I've been researching diy concrete tops for a week now and I just found you. Thank goodness
I wish you would have sprayed water on all the different sealed parts so we could see how it beaded or behaved. I also wished you would have done a slower overhead shot of all the sealers for comparison. Great video though.
What's next, hurry... I am hooked. Shouting out others work and techniques... WELL DONE!! Just a tip, using a heat gun can also assist in removing bubbles from epoxy. Lovin this Channel. Thank you for sharing your talents and your Charisma.
I am very picky as a fellow builder myself. Most of these videos people make drive me crazy. Yours however are very enjoyable and bro ....you're straight up a nice dude. Keep it up.
Dude. i have watched so many concrete countertop videos since i first saw your first one.. and you blow away them all!. all i wanted to know was how to do these basics. and you just tell it how it is. without skipping steps. i love it!! Thanks!!!
Solid video! I was curious to know more about what each product feels like afterwards. Also, I wanted to know what each if these sealers would be best used for
Back splash: 1. Simply make a 4" tall piece, 3/4"-1" thick, same way as countertops. 2. Bead of Onyx collection clear silicone 1/4" from back wall on entire length of counter top, stop 1/2" from each end of countertop. 3. Place backsplash flat, upside down, apply same silicone beads in @ 3-1/2" circles, staying 1/4" minimum from all edges, across back of entire back splash. The circles of silicone will form a suction as you install the backsplash. 4. Line up backsplash with ends, set on top 1/8" from back wall and push backsplash into place evenly. Warning: If you get silicone too close to edges of backslash it will push out onto the wall during installation and you will NEVER be able to caulk or paint wall where wall and backsplash meet.
Finally! Someone who gets to the point, doesn't cram products or self services down your throat. I must say, I have watched SEVERAL counter top vids and these are hands down the best on you tube. You sir, are an awesome dude! Video is edited very, very well. Humor is actually funny. -FIRE!- Didn't take 45 minutes to explain a 13 minute process. I can't wait to put together my outdoor kitchen based on these videos! A freakin' +
Thanks for showing the different sealing options. I also really liked that you showed what others have done with your technique. Please keep doing this.

Using your technique, I am about to pour my first kitchen counter tops for either side of our kitchen range. I was waiting for you to show ways to seal the surface. Thanks!

i was stunned by you jumping up onto the counter you had just made a few hours ago and i am loving these no bullshit videos. All of these different sealing products look great choosing the right one for the right job is everything. Thanks for the creative spark and thoughtful knowledge.
I love the look of epoxy as a finisher on just about anything. I've done a few counter tops this way and made a 60's worn out counter look like shiny new granite. Another great video - keep them coming! In one of your upcoming videos it would be great to hear how you acquired your skills.

We bought a house with pretty beat up concrete counter tops. Don’t think they ever sealed them. There are rough edges, chunks missing on edges(especially around the sink), and they cut right on them so there are scratches and cut lines. QUESTION is, do I or should I sand or do anything else before sealing them? Also, thank you so much for this easy to follow and informative video!!
Which sealer is best? Really good question. The biggest impact was definitely the 2 part stuff. Thanks for sharing all those amazing Viewers' projects. I am really impressed with how they each took the basics and added a new flair. I especially LOVED that shower project - great job! As always, I can't wait for your next video.
Dude, your skill set Rocks. I plan on sharing these videos with my wife so that we can come up with a nice table top for our paver patio. Thank You for sharing!
@@MichaelBuilds So like some others have mentioned, can this be dyed? Our paver patio has a black border and I would like to carry that over into the counter top.
Love your videos! Not too long, but they get to the point! Who has time to watch hour long videos, only to find out you still don't feel confident to start the project!? Nice job!
I was hoping you would make this video. It is perfect timing. I am planning on making kitchen countertops and a breakfast bar but will need to do them in sections to make installation more manageable. Would you recommend sealing before installation or after? I'm mostly concerned if the joint seals will be affected one way or another. And I second the request for a vid regarding stains and such
I don't subscribe to many channels but I like your style. Info is great and to the point. You earned it. Just bought a house, want to pour a coffee table. Will do a few practice ones with diff. sealers to see what I want.
Clay, I CAN NOT begin to tell you how much I love comments like this! It’s already super cool to get people to subscribe to my channel to begin with... but when someone tells me that they don’t usually subscribe to channels in general and they decided to become one of MY subscribers... that feels so good on my heart man! Thank you so much and welcome to the channel! 👍🏻😊
Another AWESOME video sir! I Probably should go get some sealer now... You keep making me put in work man.. please don't start doing video about mowing lawns or raking leaves you could probably make that look cool and fun... I'd never get any rest lol. Thanks for making these videos brother and thanks for making them so well...
Omg. I for real love you! I am totally going to do this for a kitchen island for my son's first house! He's 20 and buying a home! Love love love your vids. They are actually enjoyable to watch!
Really like your videos . The epoxy coat was what I was looking for . I'm going to do a kitchen counter top , but I want it to have a marble look and be food grade . Can't wait to try it .
M D I'm looking to do a kitchen countertop as well, and based on this video I think the epoxy is what I want. I'm half way done installing the cabinets, won't get to the countertop for a few weeks, could you reply here after you finish yours and let us know how you like the epoxy?
John Early , I'm not sure when I'll be getting to it . Its on the to do list but there are quite a few things ahead of it . You'll probably get to yours before I get to mine .
Seriously dude you have inspired me....I'm going to do my whole kitchen in concrete countertops!!! Home Depot better step up and sponsor you before they lose out!!!!
Loving the glass look on the epoxy. You can add acrylic paints to the epoxy for a tint, you can add dye to the concrete for a tint...there are so many options. Awesome job Michael. Keep the videos coming! More vids = more subs and views...which equals sponsors!!!
Michael, would love to see some best practices on doing a waterfall style countertop! My wife and I are remodeling our first house together and want to do a waterfall style over our laundry machines (among probably about 8 other countertops we'll need to do!). Your videos have given me the confidence to tackle the other ones, but the waterfall eludes me!
Hey Mike. Just love your vids! I really appreciate how you cut to the chase and show us the stuff we need to know. So many other videos are people who surely love to hear themselves talk. Thank you for teaching me new skills and keeping in real!!
Good video but so many unanswered questions. Which ones resist acid spills? Which ones tolerate hot pans? Scratch resistant? Etc. Main problem is lemon juice, tomatoes etc.
Just found your videos, and I can't wait to implement your techniques. Truly changes perspective on the ease of starting to work with concrete. Keep up the great work, you'll be at 100k soon!
100K BABY!!!! I haven’t been able to stop looking at my TH-cam app to see where my sub count is at lol 😂 thank you so much for the kind words Bart and welcome to the channel!!! 😉👍🏻
I just learned about Stonewalled Penetrating Sealer, which has nano technology. Your videos are great and I'd like to see how this other sealer works on granite, quartzite, concrete, etc.
awesome video! perfect timing - getting ready to seal my first ever GFRC tabletop. going with option 1, Cheng! Already ordered it off of amazon. Thanks a million, love you style and approach to the videos. Your concrete countertop video was an awesome alternative to gfrc, as it is quite expensive. The best part about building and making is there's never just one way to approach it. Thanks again!!
That is so true! I can’t tell you how impressed I am that you tackled GFRC!!! You are a total rock star ⭐️ I would love to see pics! Instagram @michaelbuilds313 😉👍🏻
I wish you would have shown the difference for a little longer. Thank you so much for sharing. I just poured a very complex shape countertop, and I used your videos for info. I have never poured before. It is curing now. We shall see. Thank you.
How long should I wait after the countertop dries before I can seal it? A friend of mine who is a general contractor researched all the techniques for concrete countertops two years ago, and told me to ignore everyone else on TH-cam except you. His countertops turned out beautifully, and I am currently pouring mine. My wife loves them! Thanks for all the great info. My kids loved watching you swinging on the rope in the caulk video.
I'm SO glad I found your channel!! Thank you for sharing great content! I loved how you shared other people's project inspired by your video at the end, very cool! Humans are awesome. Keep posting bro♡
By far the easiest, quickest and best option for concrete countertops!! I couldn't be happier! well done on the video besides the Detroit Tigers bucket go tribe!
Another great video Michael. Hoping to see one with adding colors and veining in the concrete. It looks like using the grout creates a depression in the concrete.
I think I like the first sealer the best overall, especially if I was making a table top or outdoor bar like in your other videos. If I was making like actual countertops for my kitchen or bathroom I think I would go with the epoxy though. Another spectacular video btw, you really need to quit your day job and move where the weather is nice year around so we can get a couple videos a week lol.
This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for, before I strip & refinish our charcoal gray concrete kitchen counter- cannot thank you enough! I’ll try & send before & after pics.
@@MichaelBuilds I have no skills but, watching your videos makes me think I might be able to tackle a concrete counter top. Going along with the above comment, how would/could you make a purple and white (Minnesota Vikings purple - not a fan, High school colors) glossy food safe marbled countertop?
I'm getting ready to use the glaze coat on an indoor concrete slab. This video killed it on what different brands there are, how to use them, and the results. Best sealing video out there!👍 You now have a new subscriber.
I see you have guitar templates on the wall. Did you make them? Would you do a video making a guitar? You know what be cool? Make cement guitars tiles as a walk way. Just a thought.

Thank so much John! Believe it or not You’re actually not the first one to tell me that your making a head stone haha. Thank so much for being a subscriber!
I'm months away from a build, but thinking of embedding copper that has been cnc cut into the face. Or perhaps use the copper braid of wire to form a metal feature. Outdoor kitchen/bar. Love your videos buddy.
You have a bonza personality you are humorous and not to shabby to look at either I love diy I generally work with timber but I am most definitely going to give cement a go thanks for great information and entertainment
The glaze is my favorite!!! I noticed it darkened the stone, and I’m wanting to color the mix when I make my topper. Should I go with a lighter color for the stain if I go with glaze?
Great videos bud! I've been wanting to do some concrete molds and your videos are giving me motivation and courage to go for it, gonna incorporate them into a BBQ grilling area! New Subscriber here!

@@bonahisme Awesome job, Jonah. I've been trying to figure out how to dye the Rapid Set like you did and thought I'd ask how you achieved it? I was thinking something like Cheng Concreter Countertop Pro-Formula Mix might work as an additive, but I'm also hesitant to mix products from different manufacturers as they might not play nice in the long run. Would appreciate the tip! Cheers
tastybarrels9 no problem 👍🏻 Cheng pro formula is a stand alone product line. Super good, but very high-end. This is a much more affordable alternative. As far as the dyes or coloring goes, I used concrete dry pigment. Very cheap for a small one pound bag. I went to my local concrete company and bought it from them. They had a book with many colors to choose from. I tried to get it at Home Depot, but they don’t carry any dyes. I hope this is helpful. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

I really hope you're going to show how to hang a slab for a back splash or shower wall so that it's fixed to the wall.
I was also thinking of shower walls.
How thin can it be for a shower wall standing upright on end? Shower is a mere 32x32.

I am planning on making kitchen countertops and a breakfast bar but will need to do them in sections to make installation more manageable. Would you recommend sealing before installation or after? I'm mostly concerned if the joint seals will be affected one way or another. And I second the request for a vid regarding stains and such
I would seal before installing but that’s just me. In the end I don’t think it matter. Thank you so much Leslie!
Another great video! Congrats on the 91,000+ subscribers in 4 months! That's gotta be some kind of record. Keep 'em comin'.
I'm thinking now it's time to do my grill side tables out of concrete. This is so inspiring. Thank you so much for the knowledge!
Lol 😂 thank you so much James!
Omg. I for real love you! I am totally going to do this for a kitchen island for my son's first house! He's 20 and buying a home! Love love love your vids. They are actually enjoyable to watch!
Oh my god Summer! Thank you so much! You really brightened my day today with that comment! 👍🏻😉
M D fair enough. I will do my best to remember to come back here and follow up after I finish my countertops. Good luck with your projects!
This is definitely the most informative sealer video of all time. It really shows the different types off well.
Awsome job! I hope to take some inspiration you given me and make some outdoor furniture...but I need to read do the patio first. Thank Mike!
Seriously dude you have inspired me....I'm going to do my whole kitchen in concrete countertops!!! Home Depot better step up and sponsor you before they lose out!!!!
That what I’m sayin! Lol 😂
Can you do a video next on different types of stains for concrete?
Absolutely! It’s definitely on the list!
Your videos have saved my first-time home buyer renovating experience lol!
Te amamos también
We love you too. Great video I'm a New one from Panamá Central América. Gracias Bro
Loving the glass look on the epoxy. You can add acrylic paints to the epoxy for a tint, you can add dye to the concrete for a tint...there are so many options. Awesome job Michael. Keep the videos coming! More vids = more subs and views...which equals sponsors!!!
Thank you so much!
Loving your channel so far. Definitely going to be attempting my own build here shortly.
The waterfall eludes me too lol 😂. But I will figure it out and we’ll totally do a waterfall countertop video
@@MichaelBuilds Awesome! Seems like a lot of variables in getting it just right, saw a couple videos where they pulled it off but looked tough!
Brother Mike😎
You're a top-notch craftsman & instructor📐
Love ur tutorials🔨
Thank you so much Timothy!
Hey Mike. Just love your vids! I really appreciate how you cut to the chase and show us the stuff we need to know. So many other videos are people who surely love to hear themselves talk. Thank you for teaching me new skills and keeping in real!!
Thank you so much Gary!
Love your clips. I'm super inspired.
And your a cool dude.
Cheers for sharing your skills & love. Your the Bob Ross of building.
From NZ 👍
Thank you so much! I can’t believe I’m getting love from NZ! You All Rock!
Excellent. I'm in process in designing and building an outdoor table (for dominoes cocktails and whatever) and will use your ideas and products
Excellent video! As for which finish is the best? They all are, it depends on what it's being used for. Nice heads up on the food safe products also.
Thank you so much Jeff!
I just learned about Stonewalled Penetrating Sealer, which has nano technology. Your videos are great and I'd like to see how this other sealer works on granite, quartzite, concrete, etc.
I’ll have to check that out!
awesome video! perfect timing - getting ready to seal my first ever GFRC tabletop. going with option 1, Cheng!
Thank you.
I have worked with epoxy and to me it gives the best finish.
Thank you so much Lena!!! I make it a channel... you all make it a community 👍🏻😉
Mike,
Great video! I really wish you would have shown the block with the different seals more closely to help folks choose though.
Great video! I've been looking for a video like this for awhile now. Keep the videos coming please.
By far the easiest, quickest and best option for concrete countertops!! I couldn't be happier! well done on the video besides the Detroit Tigers bucket go tribe!
You should do a video about dying/staining Concrete as you touched on in your first video.
I definitely will for sure! 😉👍🏻
Another great video Michael. Hoping to see one with adding colors and veining in the concrete. It looks like using the grout creates a depression in the concrete.
Thank you so much Derek!
Lol 😂 thank you so much David!
This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for, before I strip & refinish our charcoal gray concrete kitchen counter- cannot thank you enough! I’ll try & send before & after pics.
How about something on coloring the slab
You got it!
Lol 😂 we totally should!
Make this is my favorite DIY channel! And thank you for sharing project pictures from you receive from your other digital media channels. Not all of us have time or want to be on other types of media. Congrats to all those who shared their projects/work with you.
Ron
Love all your videos! I can't wait to get started on making a counter top! And, I know this is weird but I'm going to try and use this method on making head stones for family members. 😀 so thanks and your right, I don't need to watch any other videos.
What do you do if you want to color your concrete counter? Can you add color to the mix that you use and create a granite look or gemstone look?
You absolutely can do all of those things 😉👍🏻. There will eventually be videos on all of it 😊
You have a bonza personality you are humorous and not to shabby to look at either I love diy I generally work with timber but I am most definitely going to give cement a go thanks for great information and entertainment
The glaze is my favorite!!! I noticed it darkened the stone, and I’m wanting to color the mix when I make my topper. Should I go with a lighter color for the stain if I go with glaze?
That glow in the dark submission looks pretty interesting. You should do a build with that feature.
Oh I know! As soon as I saw it I knew we had to do a video!
Great videos bud! I've been wanting to do some concrete molds and your videos are giving me motivation and courage to go for it, gonna incorporate them into a BBQ grilling area! New Subscriber here!
And I don't hit the bell button very often but I did on yours
Thank you so much man! I really appreciate comments like this one!
And welcome to the channel! 😉👍🏻
Please, please do a video on tinting ..... also on joining countertop pieces
I will definitely do tinting video! Watch my video “curved concrete countertops/ bar top” to see two pieces joined together 👍🏻😉
literally excited when you post a new video! my guess is that you are in michigan, like me. what city, if that's not too personal of a question?
Inspired. This spring I plan on practicing on my outdoor grilling area before I attempt an indoor countertop.
Epoxy has a great shine
U gave us new perspective for cement application......Hi from Jakarta - Indonesia.
Thank you so much Royke! Hello Jakarta Indonesia 🇮🇩! ☺️
You make such great videos! Love watching these!
Thank you so much Rae!!!
Brother you are the master jedi of the concrete counters keep it real
All of your videos are amazing, thank you so much.
No, thank YOU so much Ralph !
i am going to make a curved garden bench and 2-slabs completed in V shape for the legs...i got a visual.. thanks Michael ... i've passed on your vid to many many friends.. :D ...waiting for more now~! i'm hooked!
Another great video Michael, glad to see you got those Amazon affiliate links.
I think it might be time to order some sealer for my project. ;)
Thank you so much! Yeah this is my first video playing with amazon affiliates. I hope it works out!
So to your work, I like each sealer, but the epoxy at the end wins for me. To those who submitted their videos, great job fellas!
AWESOME VIDEO KEEP IT UP! Always excited to see your video notifications show up!
Thank you so much! You have no idea how much that means to me!
SNAG ALIEN: Me too... ;)
You’re my favorite Laurie P!!! 🥰
Thank you for making these videos. We are using all of your instructions to improve our outdoor kitchen with concrete countertops... A much needed improvement that we have been afraid to tackle as others made it look so difficult. Your instructions convinced us we CAN do this.
Great vid bro!!! Thanx for the shout out. Was so cool to see my lil home project on here.
No no no, THANK YOU! I was so happy to see you message pop up because you were the last fella I needed permission from and I was so scared that I was going to have to take you out of the vid lol ! I’m just sad that I didn’t have time to add your latest pictures into the video😢 The new pics you sent me were beyond awesome! Thank you so much for being apart of this whole thing man! 😉👍🏻👊🏻
Wish I would have got you the other ones quicker. Super cool. Alaska winter honey-do list has one less thing on it. Lol
Lol
@@bonahisme Awesome job, Jonah. I've been trying to figure out how to dye the Rapid Set like you did and thought I'd ask how you achieved it? I was thinking something like Cheng Concreter Countertop Pro-Formula Mix might work as an additive, but I'm also hesitant to mix products from different manufacturers as they might not play nice in the long run. Would appreciate the tip! Cheers
tastybarrels9 no problem 👍🏻
Cheng pro formula is a stand alone product line.
Even if I were disinterested in concert (I’m not) your work is top notch! Thank you for you hard work and dedication to creating the production! Totally appreciated!
Love it!!!!!! & the content! Thanks again!
Awwwwwwww! Thank you so much! I love comments like this! 😊
Michael Builds Your welcome! Too bad spell check changed my concrete to concert.
Haha, concert. Sorry 😂
Keith Urban concert?! Hahaha
Michael Builds 🙌🏻that would be a great concrete, ummmm concert!😋
