Deer Theologians, Please explain how Adam and Eve would have done anything on a Friday when established calendars did not exist yet, and even more damning the Old Englsih language word Frīġedæġ from which the word Friday is taken clearly did not exist as well, nor did the Greek/Roman region exist yet who named the days of the week after their gods when establishing the Julian calendar the fauther of our modern version the Gregorian calendar. Please explain this to me as even within the Christian timescale the human made concept of calendars was thousands of years away from the lives of Adam and Eve, and the word "Friday" even further off. So unless there is a time travel subplot I missed in my readings of the Bible how exactly did the first two humans have a concept of a calendar year? Or any measurement of time other then the sun going up and down?
I'm a Christian and I have never heard of this before, never heard this ever talked about before. is it Christian or just superstitious period? matter fact Friday the 13 if I believed in luck, I would probably consider my lucky day never had a hard day on Friday the 13. I always assumed it was actually a wiccan day because a lot of pagans believe in bad luck and curses.
Reece Ambrose Not surprising, the majority of Christians know next to nothing about the history of their religion, and sadly almost as many haven't even read their entire holy book.
Meep Changeling Someone else's choice of worship has nothing to do with mine, especially hundreds of years back. Do you hate on other religions too? I have never done anything to you, my own husband is atheist and I don't judge or hate people based on religious background. I rather look this up though myself thanks. and I like your youtube name.
Two things: 1. If you sit down at a gathering of 13, it becomes a gathering of 14. No reason to be worried if you're the plus-one at an already 13. 2. @4:16 the date stated is Friday, October 13th, 1306, but every other reference to this story assert it occurred in 1307. Which is correct?
I was born on the 13th and i got a tatto of thirteen on my hand. This year 2013 i have done a lot with my life. Overall id say one of the best years yet. Feels more like good luck to me. Although i was not able to fall asleep tonight....
In China, Korea, Vladivostok area in Russia, and Japan, we are afraid of the number 4. This is because in many Asian Languages, the word for 4, is "Shi", which also means death. This is why we never do anything on the 4th, never have 4th floors, or never try to deliver a baby on the 4th. But we love 7 and 8
***** We don't really classify the Arms and Legs together, nor do we classify the eyes and ears together, so technically, we have 2 of everything. And for 8, it kind of goes with two negatives make a positive. So 8 would be a positive. We also like the number 7 because other cultures brought it in (mostly in Russia). BTW, I'm glad you want to go to Japan someday, I was born there, but I live in Vladivostok (long long story). But Japan's culture is beautiful. Our music is the best with many unique instruments, like the Hocchiku (End blown flute), Shakuhachi (smaller, less refined Hocchiku) Shinobue (Transversal flute, not unlike the Vietnamese Sao Truc), Shamisen (Cat skin banjo), Koto (Zither), and Taiko, Tsuzumi and Kakko Drums. We also happen to be very polite, and despite what American Media portrays us as, we are not pervs (thank G-d for that).
Kasumi97 Thank you :D We in Serbia believe that even numbers are for dead people, and that odd numbers are for living, so if we go on graveyard for example we carry even number of flowers, but if you want to give somebody flowers you give him/ her an odd number :D
What about the simple mathematical reason for 13 being feared? 12 is a lovely number to work with, used as a symbol of perfection and completion in a lot of folklore, and not just Christian (12 months of the year, 12 hours in each half of the day, 12 Titans, 12 tribes of Israel). But along comes 13, unable to do any of the wonderful things 12 can do, despite being right next to it. It's an awkward number to work with, so mathematically it makes sense to avoid it if one can. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 13 is considered lucky in Celtic-based faiths: for the Celts, the year was divided according to cycles of the moon, giving 13 months, and I have a feeling the number makes appearances in Celtic art as a good thing. 13 being a good number for Celtic pagans would also have been yet another reason for Christians to dislike it: equating Celtic deities with demons, the number their followers most love is obviously of the Devil. (And as a Whovian, I feel I have to point out that Time Lords have 13 lives before they die for good, and so for them, the number could be unlucky. One who is on their 13th life is one whose death is on its way. The 13th incarnation of the Master appeared as a horrifying zombie, and was the incarnation at which the Master's hatred and insanity took over.)
"Why is Friday the 13th unlucky" Because on that day exactly a murderous psychopath wearing a hockey mask will rise from the dead to kill camp counselors to avenge his mother
Triskaidekaphobia is actually made from 3 Greek words. "τρεις και δέκα φοβία" which translates to "three and ten phobia" which means 13 (3+10=13) because in Greek we use "and" when we add some something or connect two sentenses, we don't have the word "plus"
I actually like it whenever it’s Friday the 13th. I don’t believe in all those crazy superstitions. Same with my brother. We both EMBRACE Friday the 13th.
The number or quantity 13 was sacred for most of Precolumbine civilizations. The rejection of number 13 is basically a remnant of the culture conflict between eurocentric civilization and the precolumbine civilzation. A bit like the modern east vs west.
There's also the story of Eris, the goddess of chaos and discord, who was the uninvited thirteenth guest at a party on Mt. Olympus (with the twelve Olympian gods). She brought with her a golden apple which started the Trojan War.
Real Chrstians don't shave the corners of their beard, don't eat seafood, don't wear mixed fibers, keep slaves and beat them, beat their children, and if they catch someone working on the sabbath, they stone them to death; unless they're too busy making sure rapists pay 50 pieces of silver to the father of the raped girl and marry her. The laws of the bible are horrifying, and no one today follows them. You're not a real Christian and you wouldn't want to meet one. As unethical and unpleasant as Christianity today is, it's a pale shadow of the horrors of the laws actually written in the bible.
itsnotaboutme Google for the bible passages behind those. Those are biblical law. Five minutes and you'll be absolutely appalled at what you're a part of. Or you damn well should be, at least.
Then again, maybe there is something to what she said as I consider Friday 13th a lucky day, and so far nothing bad luck related has happened to me on any Friday 13th. Cats are also drawn to me, whether they are my own or a family member's or a friend's. Hmm... =D
In Spanish (and some other latin languages) Friday is named after Venus, the Roman equivalent of Fridge and Aprhodite. In hispanic culture Tuesday (Martes) named after Mars, Roman god of war is, also considered unlucky.
how about the number 666 why is it connected with evil and the devil and on Friday the 13 i always have more luck some how i get A+ on test i find money just anything lucky happens only then
Javontae Eaddy Nero wasn't supernaturally evil or anything like that. It was just political commentary by people who didn't like him. The reason they used a code to turn his name into 666 was because they would get in trouble for disrespecting Nero if they were found out.
True story: I took my Fiancé out a movie and then for coffee on a Friday 13th a few years ago. This Friday 13th had some significance to peeps practicing witchcraft. Seated at the table next to us was a young woman (about 20yrs old) and her 2 friends, she was dressed in a black robe. She couldn't stop staring at me, so we introduced ourselves and started a conversation. She claimed there was a strange energy about me and after doing some Witch tests, confirmed me to be a Warlock. How odd?!
What a bunch of crap....I don't know where she got her info. First of all, 13 is not a significant number to Christians. I googled it and found her information to be very inaccurate.
The last Friday the thirteenth was I think in January. My family and I were doing a small vacation up in the snowy mountains. We settled in our cabin, unpacked, and went to eat at this restaurant. When we came back, our cabin door wouldn't open. The key wouldn't work. We stayed outside for like an hour, scared and cold. The door was finally able to open. And also, this happened at night. I hated that night. And now, another Friday the thirteenth is coming which is in October which makes me feel more scared
What is scary for me is that there are so many 3 and 1s in my family. I was born on the 31st, my father was one of 13 children, my mother was 1 of 3. I'm an only child, my parents were married for 13 years before they had me. And Friday the 13th has usually been a pretty lucky day for me. I could never figure out why.
according to the norse myths, Frigg actually was the goddess of love, marriage and motherhood, while Freya was the goddes of love, sex and fertility. In norway, we call Friday Fredag, which etymologists think are more related to Freya than Frigg. however, some myths suggests that Frigg and Freya were two aspects of the same goddess, so its just a matter of perspective, i guess.
on Friday the 13th my cousin was on the hover board and she fell and her body hit the ground then her head hit the ground and her bowrett pop and peace of it went in her head and gave her a big gash in her head
You forgot one really important thing to mention: If you look back through your calendar and count the Fridays and check the numbers: You will find out, that friday the 13th happens more often than others dates on fridays. That is just a statistical specialty, happening because of the chosen beginning of our calendar and the 29th Feb, which shifts the days. therefore, more bad things happen on a friday the 13th, because there are more Friday the 13th than any other!!!
Friday the 13th is one of my luckiest days. I purposefully do anything that is considered bad luck on Friday the 13th to mess with my superstitious friends lol!
My most eventful days of my life always happen on Friday the 13th. Born on Friday the 13th, got my test results on Friday the 13th ( which i passed with flying colours) and the latest one? My phone was stolen on Friday the 13th. Wow.
The HMS Friday is an urban myth. No such Royal Navy ship ever existed, according to Jonathan Eyers' book "Don't Shoot the Albatross!: Nautical Myths and Superstitions" and other sources.
I was born on Friday the 13th and I have a perfectly fine life.
Lol..same hére!!
Both are you are going to Hell! Jk have a blessed day

Shawn Ravenfire That sounds cool
For most of her uses of the word 'Christian,' she should have said 'medieval Catholic' instead. There's a huge difference.
Nope. There's a huge difference between Christian & CINO (Christian in name only).
Popes who murdered were not following Christ. Hence they were not Christian.
