that is rod that act like shock absorbers. they are not magnet. they are very helpful in stopping the train without any harsh jerks felt by the passengers.
Many people have a doubt why a diesel loco from SC to KZJ..now that the reply option is not visible to me, here's the answer:- Most trains undergo a loco change at the possible nearest stop to their home shed or the stop which has the home shed itself barring few cases of offlinks..this gives them the ease to move to and from the shed for maintenance activities or making the loco available faster. In this case, the KZJ diesel loco gets this train upto KZJ because detaching it at SC will make no difference for 130 kms. It has to anyways come to KZJ later..also using the same loco for other trains at SC will mess up the regular loco train arrangement..However, things might change once the Pune-Wadi-SC line is completely electrified and CST-Kalyan line turned to AC..this may get an LGD WAP4/7 for the entire route to BBS.
I ones travelled by Konark from Warangal to Secunderabad. Upto Secunderabad, it was hauled by the same Electric Loco; VSKP/BZA WAM-4; which I saw hauling Konark at Warangal. It was during 1996 or so.
Like Konark, even Ajmer-Banglore (later extended to Mysore) Express also changed it's loco; from WDM/WDP to WCAM1/2P/3 at Ahmedabad, and then again changed from WCAM1/2P/3 to WDM/WDP at Pune.
Loco change at Secunderabad/Kazipet will always remain. Loco change at Pune occured till 2009. Since then; post Pune-KYN AC conversion, the train is Diesel hauled entirely; upto Mumbai from Secunderabad/Kazipet; since 2009. Howewer, things may change; if the Dual mode WDAP5 loco (which can operate in both Diesel as well as Electric mode), haul the train entirely from Mumbai CST to BBSR.
You would surprised by how many countries have idiots who drop the crap into passing trains. Every day engineers and conductors suffer from this. In some locations that is protection against the geography of the region (falling rocks, e.t.c.)
Hey friends i have one doubt that why cant they change the engine of konark express at secunderabad itself so that lot of diesel can be saved from secbad to kazipet......plz gv me the ans as this ques is running in my mind from many days????
During 90's, the loco change was at Secunderabad only, as because I have travelled by this train, and saw it; being hauled by a WAM-4 only; from Warangal to Secunderabad.
I find this unacceptable a country like India which is more developed than Brazil ultilizar obsolete technology in railways. is little wonder that many countries claim that railway accidents are common in India.
hhh India is not developed than Brazil. we have some space technology but rest is pathetic. our idiots believe space technology is priority than improving life of ordinary citizens.
Mauricio Freitas What's so old about this engine. Its 90s technology bought from ABB Switzerland, and manufactured by Indian Railways. Not bought off the shelf from GM like Brazil does. Railway ticket prices in India are purposely kept low to enable the whole population to travel thereby negating the profit made by ferrying freight. Besides Indian railways moves 8 billion passengers and over 11 billion tons of freight a year. And the railways have invested in new diesel locomotives - EMD's GT 46M/PAC. Yes rail accidents do happen, so do shootouts in favelas. Might be be a good idea to cast a glance at your own problems and achievements rather than point out another country's systemic flaws.
I'm not talking about shooting in Slums , I am talking about safety on the railway system in India , if you analyze the average rail accidents in India and much higher than in Brazil . Why is having so many accidents like this? Lack of maintenance ? Drivers disqualified ? What's happening? Another thing , where is the ACD such that since 2010 I'm hearing about it? I admit that the railway system in India arrives to give me jealous because and a very large system , but I think the system should review some security concepts. Hugs .
Most of the accidents in India happen at unmanned railway crossings. Its simply is not feasible to man every crossing. Train accidents happen everywhere, even in mighty China. Remember Wenzhou train collision? Indian Railways runs more than 8000+ trains every single day covering 65,000 km of track. With density like that accidents are bound to happen. Yes work is on to improve signalling and communications. Indian railways is a mammoth beast, change takes time and money.
Rohan Ramesh I agree with you Rohan , rail accidents happen everywhere , not only in India , in China even in Brazil happens accidents in their Railways. Regarding India twist much for the system to improve the safety aspect, but as you said it takes time , and lots of time
AxK My dear Sir , 3 members in my family are loco pilots and I can assure you bird stike is not the problem . I personally get many opportunities with them to travel in various Locos / EMUs with them every month . The main problem is people , kids and political or any type of protest. People find excuses to target trains with stones. I have seen trains being stoned because water supply in the locality was affected due to some reason or someone was murdered , you will come across many digusting reasons totally unrelated to railways. I am not anti Indian but unfortunately we must accept the bitter truth.Thank you very much.

I think this station is Secunderabad, and not Kazipet. As shown in the Vedio.
They are called as buffers and are filled with water just in case the impact is much more then 10 kmph, they help in absorbing the initial impact.
I think Konark changed loco twice. From WAM-4/WAP-4 to WDM/WDP at Kazipet/Secunderabad and then again from WDM/WDP to WCG2/WCAM3 at pune
Like Konark, even Ajmer-Banglore (later extended to Mysore) Express also changed it's loco; from WDM/WDP to WCAM1/2P/3 at Ahmedabad, and then again changed from WCAM1/2P/3 to WDM/WDP at Pune.
Also while going to bbsr, loco is attached at the back side cuz the train changes route. Hence three times
Clear and nice vdo.
The engine used at secundrabad was a diesel engine
Good catch

Why the loco has been changed
Nice video recording
How many times they will change the locos for konark Express ?
BZA and VSKP are compulsion; due to direction reversals.
Loco change at Secunderabad/Kazipet will always remain.

So I think the station; shown in this vedio, is most likely to be Secunderabad, not Kazipet. This is my wild guess.
are yar why dont u record the full video
i want to hear wap4 loco starting sound
i love the starting sound😠😠😠

Why are there bars on the front windows?
to prevent bird strikes
To protect the loco pilots from stones thrown by people/ kids just for fun or maybe some local protest or any flimsy reason but in general not birds.
