Dean O’Banion: The Irish gangster who got killed whilst shaking hands during the prohibition era!

Learn about one of the leading gangsters in early 20th century America.
Dean O’Banion’s rise would see him run the North Side of Chicago during the Prohibition era. With his crew importing and selling illegal alcohol, as well as highjacking liquor from other gangs in the area to help eliminate the competition. Growing a criminal empire that made him millions of dollars.
His luck would soon end though after falling out with rival gangsters Johnny Torrio and the infamous Al Capone, who along with the dangerous Genna Brothers would order a hit on O’Banion. Leading to his death in 1924.
So what was life like for one of America’s most notorious gangsters?

I had never even heard of O’Banion until researching Capone. I definitely had to feature O’Banion on this channel when I learnt about the North Side gang

@@Mafiono no doubt. Yeah he headed that North side Gang and held his own when it came to Capone and Torio. Basically had the Outfit on their toes for years with Hymie Weiss and Bugs Moran making multiple attempts over the next 5 years. Almost killed Torio. Took the St Valentines Massacre in 1929 to basically end what started from killing Deanie. So yea he's pretty important to know
