Help ! Cant feel the biting point. im driving a 2010 Honda City Sedan with manual transmission. i practiced creeping with the clutch and gas pedals but just couldn't get that dip in the rear of the car. is there any other way for me to tell if im in the biting point already ? Also can you make a video explaining why do manual transmission cars stall ?

I actually really don't mind slow moving traffic (as long as its on the flat) because there's no reason to rush your footwork and its great practice for finding the bite point. I find it harder when everything is flowing well and you need to get moving quicker off a light or intersection
Easily the worst thing about driving a manual, I remember my third ever lesson I got stuck in a nasty traffic jam and kept stalling non stop, stressed out my instructor and the car driving behind me 😂 just need to practice, practice and practice

I'm still trying to feel that biting point and I'm nervous whenever there's a stop on, well not really a hill but a road going (a little) up and I once rolled backwards and thankfully I stepped on the brakes before I crashed onto the motorcycle behind me. This is teaching me so much and I'm so going to practice more :)

I was impressed by the patience of the drivers and I appreciated that neither of them wanted to get out of the traffic jam right away. It's different in Indonesia, when I drive on the highway, even at a red light, they really want to step on the gas and don't think about other people who have a different clutch and gas pedal. In essence, horn number 1 so that the driver in front of him immediately drove.
I always enjoy your videos & too driving a manual car...what I do is below---(my principles) BEST & SAFE METHOD TO MOVE ANY VEHICLE & CREEPING FORWARD IS-1/Hold the brake & clutch simultaneously in 1st gear . 2/Release the clutch up to the biting point (car start to vibrate little bit) & release the brake slightly gradually in a controlled manner . SITUATION 1=>Car will automatically move forward,If it's on a levelled or low inclined surface depending upon the load on the vehicle . SITUATION 2=>If not moving forward & not rolling back( stand still) then give slight gas with the clutch carefully gradually releasing will move the car forward . SITUATION 3=>If after releasing the clutch up to biting point & with slight controlled release of brake,car is rolling back(means on an uphill gradient) then instantly stop the roll back by pressing the foot brake & applying the parking brake .Then we have to move the car ahead by PARKING BRAKE METHOD OF HILL STARTING (POSITION-Engaged parking brake in 1st gear with clutch depressed fully, ACTION-Slightly more gas-upto 1.5k to 2k RPM,then release clutch up to biting point at this slight high rpm=> Feel the forward pulling of car by front wheel,that is dip down of back portion of car,then slowly release the parking brake at that fixed position of gas & clutch pedal will move the car easily against the inclined surface too .) FOR CREEPING FORWARD- Just after slightly moving the car(by above methods in all conditions) gradually release the clutch upto the biting point & gradually fully with or without gas input(as per requirement) . TO CONTROLL THE CREEPING SPEED-First Depress the clutch fully followed by gently brake(as per requirement) if the required creeping speed is attained . [LONGER TIME HALF CLUTCH with increased engine RPM damges the clutch,So increased half clutch duration should be avoided by maintaining a gap in front & driving with completely released clutch in 1st gear with no or required slight accelerator input if on an contionious uphill ]

I have lessons in a small petrol car. My instructor tells me to only use the clutch in these situations, slight and precise movements of the clutch in and around the biting point. Same principle when parallel parking.
It's a very important tip he gave us about using gas when taking off. It really does help you not stall, so if you are a new driver who has some trouble when taking off, remember to use petrol it helps a lot I can tell you from experience.

Too many motor cyclists make me even more confused when I drive. If you live here in India, you would perfectly relate to what I am saying. +Meigulung Same here in my country. When in stationary on a hill, motorcylists love to get close to cars, left side, right side and behind. But what more make me annoyed is when a manual truck gets close behind my car too. Truck drivers know that a manual car has a risk of rolling back when starting off on a hill, but they themselves behave as if they don't know. Back to motorcylists. I always try to block them so that they don't have chance to pass from the left side. But then they try to pass from the right side :)

But one thing I can say is if you roll back on a hill its either you're not in the correct gear, you let go the the clutch too quickly or you didn't give the car enough gas. Also use the creeping technique (lifting the clutch up very lightly to go faster or down very lightly to slow down ) where relevant and use you handbrake:)
Sakhile Dlamini The main reason people roll back on a hill is because they release the handbrake before reaching the biting point or not giving enough clutch bite to counteract gravity. If you lift your clutch up too quickly or don't give it enough gas, you will stall (providing the gear is in first and not neutral) but since the car is in first gear, that would prevent the car from rolling back. At least that is my understanding since it is recommend to leave the car in first gear when parked facing uphill to prevent the car rolling downhill in case of handbrake failure.

I just got my license a month ago, and recently bought a car. I have however been avoiding any chance to drive it, because I keep stalling EVERY time I have to start the car, and sometimes it will happen like 8 times in a row! I know it's really bad for the car, not to think about the fact that it is really humiliating, and it makes me so frustrated, because I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. This never happened when I was driving with my instructor. Now I am just really scared of driving, and it's very depressing as I literally spent all my money on a license and a used car. But this video was very helpful. Next time I'm about to rip my head off while cars are honking at me, I will replay your video in my head, and hopefully that will help me think clearly, or else I am maybe not suppose to be driving a car, I don't even know, but thank you! :)
+Marie Groes-Petersen You most likely practiced and passed your test in a diesel, which are much easier to drive without stalling (start off with just the clutch) than a petrol and I'm guessing you bought a petrol? Which will need gas when setting off.
+Marie Groes-Petersen Initially I avoided driving in the rush hours. After getting used to manage the clutch and throttle, I can now drive in the traffic without stalling the car. More practice in less stress condition helps me a lot. My 2 cents.
+Marie Groes-Petersen Stalling the car (manual ofc) happens to everybody, yeah even "PRO's" stall sometimes. just practice and be confident don't mind those cars honking. the more you think of them the more nervous you'll be and the more likely you'll stall the car. just think of what your instructor taught you or what you've learned on this video.
Perhaps you're not feeling the biting point? You should remove the clutch slowly until you feel the vibrations of the car (it is different for each car) then remove it even slower, and press on the gas smoothly. It takes practice, but it can be done. Good luck! Don't be afraid!
I was in the traffic for 1.5 hour this morning to work using the techniques your described. Since the traffic stops and goes very frequently, I get the car moving by using 1or2nd gear and then put into neutral as much as I can to coast (particularly downhill). Engaging back to the gear once the traffic moves again. Thank you for sharing these practical lessons.
Haha correct, I always lift the clutch too darn fast it's a habitat :/, and when your switching simultaneously between 3 pedals at once it really boggles your mind sometimes.

I feel the same way about manual cars. They seem a bit archaic for the present day. I've never driven an automatic by the way but will definitely go for one in the future.
Kev 9858 ikr same, I love manual cars cause they look better, weigh less and it's cool changing the gears your self but traffic in Pittsburgh makes me want to drive an automatic.
Same here. I'm in Québec so about 10 to 15% here are manual (and all petrol) and I just bought one after 5 years driving an automatic, I thought I would like it, (my whole family is French and according to them manual is THE way to go) but damn is it tedious to drive. It feels archaic and worthless, there's no fun to get anxious when you get stuck in traffic or when you see a steep hill and you know you're gonna have a bad time with stupid drivers behind you that kiss your bumper and get angry if you roll back even a little or if you stall - I've been driving manual for a week only so I'm sure it'll get better but I already miss my dear automatic that was a breeze to drive in any circumstances. I hope it'll get better... Plus there are no roundabouts here, only goddamn stop signs every 100m.

Always learn in a manual even if you intend to drive an Auto. I did and now I'm in a hire car for a week or two and it's a manual. It's all coming back to me and I'm not restricted to just Auto's.
@@Tallborn5 i know why, but i don't think it's worth to move your arms that much and potentially wear car parts more quickly just to rest your legs for about 10-20 sec. If you just stopped at a yellow light, i understand why would you do that
Yes your legs and arms are going to get extremely tired particularly in heavy traffic, I think the issue is too many drivers can use the back roads to get around so you arent stuck in traffic as much but they dont as their sense of direction is poor. I think to be a good driver you need a good sense of direction and how to get to places without main roads.
I've just begun learning and after a while of this stop and go the clutch began to smell a little from riding the clutch like this. I'd hate to burn it out while learning but my technique was almost identical to yours in the video 😯
you must have been "riding" the clutch for far too long... riding means keeping it at its "bite" point but doing nothing. the clutch plates would rub, generating heat and a smell.
I have already past but was in traffic on the motorway and found myself reving off and stopping fast all the time. also my car started to stall which started to overheat and well... you know. it cooled down though as the traffic didn't move and managed to get off but wanted to watch a video to refresh me since before this car i hadn't driven since i passed which was last year.
I wish my instructor told me I can use the hand break to steady the car, set revs and find/hold the biting point until I’m ready!! Do you know how many red lights I’ve run and how I’ve dreaded traffic 🤦🏾♀️😩😩 thank you!!!!
this is what really pissed me off when on my lessons. "biting point" alway stalled the car at roundabouts when you need to be quick and traffic like this. taking lessons again for hours at a time starting Friday the 13th - Gulp this is the only bad thing about driving a manual car. loving your vids though mate subscribed.
I agree, your video's are very usefull! Only here in the Netherlands we are told we should NEVER use the pull-push steering technique... And we never use the hand brake, only when parked and on hill starts. And finally, we drive on the other side of the road of course. When I ever come to the UK, would you recommend to bring my left hand drive car or rent a right hand drive one? Again, thanks for your very helpfull video's! (By the way, excuse my bad English)
12:40 useful control: gear down from second to first as you are slowing down almost stopping, but not totally stopping. Should you do the same at junctions/curves when you are going too slow?

Your instructor was kinda dumb or apple. Jams can usually be expected and everybody stalls engine when learning how to drive manual.
I love how he just walks about road signs etc when he's nothing else to say. Great channel though and definitely worth a sub.

I was in the traffic for 1.5 hour this morning to work using the techniques your described. Since the traffic stops and goes very frequently, I get the car moving by using 1or2nd gear and then put into neutral as much as I can to coast (particularly downhill). Engaging back to the gear once the traffic moves again.

Haha correct, I always lift the clutch too darn fast it's a habitat :/, and when your switching simultaneously between 3 pedals at once it really boggles your mind sometimes.

I feel the same way about manual cars. They seem a bit archaic for the present day. I've never driven an automatic by the way but will definitely go for one in the future.
Kev 9858 ikr same, I love manual cars cause they look better, weigh less and it's cool changing the gears your self but traffic in Pittsburgh makes me want to drive an automatic.
Same here. I'm in Québec so about 10 to 15% here are manual (and all petrol) and I just bought one after 5 years driving an automatic, I thought I would like it, (my whole family is French and according to them manual is THE way to go) but damn is it tedious to drive. It feels archaic and worthless, there's no fun to get anxious when you get stuck in traffic or when you see a steep hill and you know you're gonna have a bad time with stupid drivers behind you that kiss your bumper and get angry if you roll back even a little or if you stall - I've been driving manual for a week only so I'm sure it'll get better but I already miss my dear automatic that was a breeze to drive in any circumstances. I hope it'll get better...
Plus there are no roundabouts here, only goddamn stop signs every 100m.
I'm in the US, in a major city with terrible traffic. I just got my first manual car at 38 and man, I'm struggling 😆😆. It's so much work!

Always learn in a manual even if you intend to drive an Auto. I did and now I'm in a hire car for a week or two and it's a manual. It's all coming back to me and I'm not restricted to just Auto's.

@@Tallborn5 i know why, but i don't think it's worth to move your arms that much and potentially wear car parts more quickly just to rest your legs for about 10-20 sec. If you just stopped at a yellow light, i understand why would you do that
Yes your legs and arms are going to get extremely tired particularly in heavy traffic, I think the issue is too many drivers can use the back roads to get around so you arent stuck in traffic as much but they dont as their sense of direction is poor. I think to be a good driver you need a good sense of direction and how to get to places without main roads.
In our Country (India) can't do it like this with peaceful mind,such a good roads here with free moving traffic without two-wheeler problems..

I've just begun learning and after a while of this stop and go the clutch began to smell a little from riding the clutch like this. I'd hate to burn it out while learning but my technique was almost identical to yours in the video 😯
you must have been "riding" the clutch for far too long... riding means keeping it at its "bite" point but doing nothing. the clutch plates would rub, generating heat and a smell.
I have already past but was in traffic on the motorway and found myself reving off and stopping fast all the time. also my car started to stall which started to overheat and well... you know. it cooled down though as the traffic didn't move and managed to get off but wanted to watch a video to refresh me since before this car i hadn't driven since i passed which was last year.
I wish my instructor told me I can use the hand break to steady the car, set revs and find/hold the biting point until I’m ready!! Do you know how many red lights I’ve run and how I’ve dreaded traffic 🤦🏾♀️😩😩 thank you!!!!

this is what really pissed me off when on my lessons. "biting point" alway stalled the car at roundabouts when you need to be quick and traffic like this. taking lessons again for hours at a time starting Friday the 13th - Gulp

I agree, your video's are very usefull! Only here in the Netherlands we are told we should NEVER use the pull-push steering technique... And we never use the hand brake, only when parked and on hill starts. And finally, we drive on the other side of the road of course. When I ever come to the UK, would you recommend to bring my left hand drive car or rent a right hand drive one? Again, thanks for your very helpfull video's! (By the way, excuse my bad English)

My driving instructor hasnt told me about this whole handbrake systen when waiting..DOES HE WANT ME TO FAIL?? i stuggle at traffic so bad i can't keep my feet on the clutch for to long so this makes sense so much and is helpful !!
