  • Ride cut short by clutch issues but still got some decent riding in. Rekon the clutch is dead?

I got a heavy duty clutch set from a place in NZ. Its made of recycled compressed paper. And it works beautifully and hasn't slipped once. I had a Barrett heavy duty clutch but it used to slip a fair bit. Especially on fast takeoff on bitumen. The standard clutch lasted a year. Harder springs than standard make the heavy duty part. New KTMs have a big spring washer that can be adjusted from soft to hard tension. I don't know the year when they started using it. Changing ya clutch is a pretty easy job. Make sure to check the clutch basket for wear becase they can get flogged out on hard ridden or abused bikes. Sorry I cant help with names. I rebuilt my Kaity 10years ago and I can't remember them. Love that track mate. You'll get there bro ya doing pretty good all really.

All good wish I could help more. And wish I could come ride there with you. Yeah research the paper one. It was a big moto accessory place in NZ. I got heaps of parts off them because they were really cheap and semi local. I was a bit dubious of it. But keen to try new things and The Barrett one was no good. And it has been amazing. No slip. Awesome feel. Very durable. 10years In my 525. But it hasn't had a hard life in this last 10years because of life. As it did in the 1st 9 years of of our now inseparable partnership and 5 years in the middle in box's while I saved up for the allmost total rebuild. Life again. Have you had a look at my stuff?

2 strokes are way harder on clutches than 4 strokes. So if you haven't replaced them it is definitely due now. Also drain and flush out ya gear box because after a bad burn out there is fibrous gunk in the motor that needs to be cleaned out or it can block oil passages and grind gears.

How many hours on it? I've seen plenty of ppl with 300+ on the stock clutch without issues... if you don't have REALLY high hours on that bike, I'd look at your clutch adjustment. There's probably no play and it's constantly slipping just a tiny bit which then overheats the pack

This is what it was - thanks. I found later the lever had been knocked out of adjustment, fixed it up and it feels ok now.
