This doesn’t apply to our fish, the bait & tactics are irrelevant as our fish are wild & unpressured. Don’t buy into the tackle/bait/commercialism. You’ll never catch a wild 50 in America either. Maybe a 40 in the next 20years..
We're hoping to do a floater fishing episode soon. I'd always go for a 12ft rod for surface work to enable me to get the best range from a small, lightweight controller. It needs to be forgiving, to protect light hook links, but I do find many of them a bit too soft. I use a 12ft 2.75tc which is a bit beefier than most as it gives me enough backbone to clamp down on the weedy waters I fish without being too harsh. I use old Daiwa GS1000 reels but they are rare to find at all, let alone get hold of one in good condition. Daiwa SS2600 are the modern equivalent of the same size. Realistically any similarly sized reel will be fine as long as it's got a smooth clutch and doesn't suffer with the line going behind the spool as the fine lines are more easily damaged.
Nice video. Matt is a lovely guy and a great angler.

Great advice - explained so even a relatively new carp angler from the US can understand!
Thanks - Joe

What is a good floater rod and reel setup? Light being the key
You can literally use any rod for float fishing, but if you want compact and light just go for a Nash dwarf , get the lowest tc
Chubb OutKast’s are a decent for floater work
