good lord those prices! £199 for a black Class C.. £267 for a dcc class 37 with nice paint job.. who actually buys them at these prices, obviously somebody does. £87 for birdcage coach (I got a three coach set for not much more than that) .
Well the 37 is sound!!.. But yes.. I may look at the old tooling for the 159..as its goin cheap on ebay. These trains are like houses--only certain people are in the market.
To be fair they did say they needed to check the price of the 'c' but I agree if that price is correct it's stupid. Don't think the price for the 37 is that far off with sound, I've just bought a Heljan class 33 and the loco cost £95 and the sound chip I chose was £118 and I've still got to fit it. It also is comparable with the Dapol Western with sound which is £250.
I’ve just got back into modelling after a short break of about 5 years , I can’t believe the massive hike in prices in only a few years, it’s unbelievable!
It's been said before but I don't think it can be said enough: What do Bachmann think they are playing at with those prices?! £199?! For an almost plain black C CLASS?! If you're reading this Bachmann - try to stay off the alcohol at your product meetings in future.
Recent Hornby Railroad models have been so good for me lately that i have no reason to buy these super expensive models. Looking forward to the Thomas N gauge range though, i have the Japanese models and they are incredible.
Looks like 2020 is the year I'm no longer in Bachmanns sales demographic. Those prices for items using existing tooling are ludicrous. I guess all my hobby money will go to Hornby and Oxford this year.
Not a lot of new n gauge products being brought out for this year, yet Farish have had a whole list of products waiting to be released for years in some cases now! Bachmann/Farish seriously need to get their act together! When Hattons first gave up with Bachmann/Farish, I seriously thought they'd gone into liquidation! Cheers for the vid though guys & for showing what they are gonna release!!👍🚂🚃🚃🚃🚅🚄🚉😁👍
I'd love one of the 117s & a 159 but those prices! I know these things aren't cheap and you need to pay for super detailed models, but when someone like Realtrack put out their 156s for a good whack cheaper than Bachmann are pricing themselves at...
Its the price rises on existing tooling models that have had just a relivery where Bachmann are taking the micky now. The C class is a prime example. £124 up to £199. What on earth were they thinking......Bachmann you need to take stock or risk alienating your customer base. Right now its not great.
I must agree with other people here some of these prices are eye watering. Whilst Bachmann products are finely detailed I don't see how they justify being so much dearer than Hornby. I'm really interested in the two DMU' s but I'm afraid I'll have to wait until i can find some second hand I will have trouble justifying to myself let alone my wife over £500 on two items, that's nearly 4 months fuel for one car. All that said we as modellers are demanding ever greater detail better quality running and ever better paint finishes in what is a shrinking market, unfortunately not every child wants a train set for their birthday anymore so production costs increase whilst the customer base decreases.
Sad to say Hattons blotted their copybook in my opinion releasing the Class 66 with the ridiculously shoddy axel boxes despite their as reported promise to have fixed the issue before the production run? There should have been no need for this or their subsequent lacklustre response to this issue in my experience. Look at their second hand Class 66's that they are selling themselves - so many have 'missing axel boxes', 'loose axel boxes' or 'glue marks on bogies'. Lovely model or not - I am not paying circa £155 inc postage to then be told to fix the problem myself. Shame on you Hattons - you have lost hundreds of pounds of my business this year alone. Means nothing to you - but its a fortune to me!
At the start of the video, you mentioned a 00 Scale C class Southern loco. It is an old model in a different livery and twice the price of the previous model as are the Hopper vans. Bachmann does make some very nice models, but they are pricing themselves out of the market. Also, Hornby is with the prices of the new range of coaches. How are they ever going to attract the younger generations into this hobby and us older ones on a budget? Maybe Bachmann should start making mobile phones and then their previous workers will walk back across the road or is this hobby now only for the rich and famous. You both moved production to China because of the lower labour rates and then we had very poor Quality Control. Yes, I know that Hornby has fixed that now. With modern moulding technology and Tampo printing, it should have made models cheaper to make. Of course, they have to have two Tampo printing machines, one for Railway and one for Railroad models. Thanks to Hattons and Rails of Sheffield and some other retailers they are at least trying their best to keep this hobby alive. Finally, I have had Triang or Triang Hornby models since I was 6 years old and with my older brother and me, we still have most of them. Martin. (Dhaka, Bangladesh.)
£199 for an 0-6-0 in black when Oxford Rail, a newer company to the scene, can produce a new 0-6-0 for less than £100? There's something seriously off with ither their pricing or manafacturing. They need to sort it or I fear they will loose customers in droves...
Can't deny the quality of bachmann pretty much most of the time, but, at those prices I'm quite happy I'm predominantly a hornby collector, plus bachmann are soo behind on previous release schedules and getting older sets re released in DCC
Just bought a class 44 for £132 which I thought was very good indeed from Great Eastern Model Railways Norwich, a lovely shop run by a lovely lady who knows her subject.
With other company's starting to supply new range of Models bachmann need to get there act together quick some high prices and ridiculas waiting times they could get left behind I'm a big fan of there quality and detailing but I'm starting to look elsewhere.
Prices are terrible. I will pay what I have to for the Johnson 0-4-4 tanks because I want them after that only buy at reasonable prices. £80 for a coach? I don't think so! My pension can't stretch to that. Maybe I have enough anyway.
Can't agree more - I have a crimson tank on order and these prices have me frightened. If they think they can get away with that, I'm preparing to be asked to pay £300+
That is the problem we will all pay what we have to for that model weather it be a Johnson 0-4-4 as in your case or the £170 I paid for my D600 Warship that was £125 when I ordered it, it then took I think 4 years to arrive. These manufacturers know that there is enough demand for a model before they produce it, how many times do you see in the magazine we'll produce this if there is sufficient interest go to our website to register. Trouble is there is enough of us that will pay what is necessary for that model we particularly want!
Maybe Bachmann branchline are going to go the way of Mainline at these prices with warehouses full of unsold stock. The proposed upgrade of the Bullied coaches I don't need because Hornby brought out a beautiful model of the coaches I wanted. I have now sold most of my old Bullied stock so don't need them.
Glad to see that N gauge is getting a new 3MT, but when is the OO gauge lined BR green version coming out? Had that on pre-order for a long time now... Hoping its announced for the second or third quarter.
Do Bachmann actually make anything or do they just announce products and then cancel them a couple of years later? 166’s, class 20’s to name a couple. Also, the ROG class 37 has been superseded by Accurascale now! Bachmann prices are way overpriced now too. My money won’t be going into their coffers anymore!
Will u use roller doors as is or develops them evolve them can the be Donnared to an existing shed. Would love to see them in use with internal lights and noise to can’t see the work only the flashes and sounds. Good for a everard junction style story/br advert video
Well, virtually everyone agrees the new products are well overpriced and many of Bachmann 'a core stock has competition from other manufacturers . Even if the pricing was competitive what comes across to me is also how dull and uninspired is the product launch. I have ordered zero from the list. If the Feb announcement is an indication then it does not bode well for the May or Nov product launch!
Hi, Are Hornby going to upgrade the Euro star motor to 5 pole ,as my motor (3 pole) has burnout Twice,Any comment??, Thanks for your help, All the Best Brian 🤗
I know the cost of some of these is quite expensive. But if I buy 1 the cost is doubled with the exchange rate to New Zealand dollars !!!! So i only buy something that I reeeeellly need.
As an addendum to my last post, aren't Bachmann models made in China, like Hornby. The workers in China get paid a pittance so Bachmann are really taking the piss with their outrageous pricing.
@@hornbymag - Sorry to say that isn't going to make a lot of difference! New Hornby Steam Engine at £200 List Price - even with online retailers discounting this will leave them way over my budget. Anyone noticed even the online retailers are not doing the deals that they used to? Time to pull up the drawbridge and make do with what I have. No choice in the matter.
Bachmann prices are disgustingly high and, even the detailing of their models is usually top notch, I think greed has taken over this company and will wreck them eventually, seeing their demise by alienating new entrants to the hobby. I can see Hornby upping their game and knocking Bachmann off their perch eventually.
So now you buy a catalogue that shows a lot of stuff you don't want, ie I model oo gauge so have no interest in n gauge. I bet the price reflects the whole range to.
What a stupid comment. People have more priorities in life than model Railways. Bachmann are pricing the average person out of their customer base & cutting their own throats in the process.
Paul Gorton model railways have never been for the average earner they were originally bought only by the rich. Hornby catered for and still does cater for the average person with the railroad range. High end stuff is expensive because it’s the high end.
@@MoleculeMind7 we are taking about today, not what happened in history. Do you really think pricing out half your potential market makes good business sense ? “ it’s all too expensive “. This isn’t communist China, companies exist to make a profit, not for fun. If you don’t like it wait for the inevitable discounting or buy something else
Rob D2 Well, they are certainly testing the market with some of these prices. If they have got it wrong by being greedy as many have suggested, then there is no profit. Time will tell, but I suspect the likes of Hornby will be getting a bit more market share.
Looks like I'm sticking with second hand Lima and Mainline for the foreseeable, then.
There must be lots of very well paid people out there....One new steam engine -or a month's food and heating. No brainer on less than 8 grand p.a.
