My husband is a flintknapper. He does demonstrations at our local state parks and schools and craft fairs and rock shows. I love to watch him do it. We're rockhounds so we're always collecting. Nice video. God bless
Very good idea this vidéo. In some fields, you can found some ancient flint tool who can be ""re-sharp"" easyly. Maybee whe can said than gloves and glasses could help to stay safe to do this.
Watching this for if I ever get onto Survivor and I need to make my own fishing spear in case my tribe keeps losing. This current season is making me want to learn some things lol next up, friction fires!
Native people would first split the rock,to get two pieces, then nap the edge with a deer antler, so it's not so hit-or-miss.. And you keep the bigger chips to make arrowheads.
Also there’s a difference between finishing work like pressure flaking with an antler. And percussion which is this. You can use percussion to create the points that you use to flake with an antler. Or you can just use percussion to create a really quick hand axe like I did.

Will he do a youtube? 😃
That is awesomeness. I'm sure he's better than I am at this.
Thanks buddy from Australia 🇦🇺
Love that place! Like my American cousins!
Great skill to know in a pinch. Thanks.
David Wescott taught me this. I remember it well. The first time I saw this it was survival transformative. Paradigm changing! It’s so simple.
Thanks! My EDC folder is a rock now!
Word
nice job
Thanks
Knapping is a valueable skill most won't try cause of being scared to .but even a bad edge will work
Exactly

Absolutely yes
Appreciate the videos! I’ll see what terrible mess I can create out of a rock the next time I find a round one
Excellent! That's how it starts
👍

Yes but not with this trash river rock. This is almost sand stone crap rock.
@@TJackSurvival Flint or obsidian is preferred, and that's what I have used myself, but I suppose others might work.

I did not know I can hurt stones so much by hand ☺ it's midnighy, try tomorrow
Have you ever tried making a knife out of a stone? You should make one do a video on of you making it
I’ve made them yes. I make super ugly points. But I’m not against a knife video.
He hit it from both sides ? Up and down ?
Is Shale Rock any good for Flint napping? I've always thought it may be too to brittle but it flakes off pretty nice .
That is useful
Hmmmm 🤔
