I love that Frieren is canonically a loot goblin. She's so keen on treasure she can't help but walk face-first into every mimic and gets excited over a pile of treasure despite normally seeming apathetic.
I like that the years stop flying by the more people she adds to her life. It’s like the more full and eventful her days are the slower and more significant the time that passes is to her. At least that’s my read xD
That is the same in real life. the more people and new experiences you have in your life, the more time slows down. Childhood felt like forever while you were there... until it wasn't anymore.
Exactly what I thought. As she starts to pay attention to and appreciate those around her, time starts slowing down because every day is a different adventure. Though to be fair they are also on an adventure with a destination, so the parts where they are stuck somewhere for months can be glossed over in minutes just like the first episodes
Fern's reactions kind of makes sense considering Stark is likely the first person of similar age she's spent significant time with as well as being a member of the opposite sex.
As a father, the scene with Stark and Eisen on the battlement hit HARD. The love between the two, Eisen's supporting and protective hand on Stark's shoulder... man, I cried manly tears there.
@@saytaylor3603Well, she was raised half her life by a Alcoholic Bishop and a Pervy Sloppy Elf, so she having issues socializing between people her age is understandable
Justice for Stark. He is so pure, yet gets bullied for no reason. He gets called a pervert later on, even though there is no indicator that he is one. Yet the first thing Fern does after acquiring a spell to see through clothes is look at his wiener, call him small right to his face at age 16. Like, hold on girl, compared to what??
With the potential Stark/Fern ship, I'd say relationships can work just the same as comedy duos. You got the goofball and you got the foil. When my wife is laughing at her own jokes and I - after a beat - deadpan "you're a fuckin' idiot" she doubles down and ends up laughing harder at herself. Fern has the the "you're an idiot" glare down pat.
08:30 - I love Frieren. Especially her joy when she finds something that may not be worth much at all. I play games similarly. Many items that aren't worth much at all make me happy when I collect them. A small thing and it makes me happy. I completely understand this.
I love these life lessons being spread in this anime through the original journey. Being afraid is not a bad thing, but many people view it as cowardice and ridicule you for being afraid.
saw someone point this out on the crunchyroll channel clip if you pay attention to the time on the anime without the flashback portions the fight takes 30 seconds exactly that was a really neat thing the animators and writers did
I love how people forget this is studio mad house as the production company. They don't fucking miss, this is a humble, wonderful story and when they turn up the magic and power, they show exactly why OPM season 1, and so many shows of theirs SLAP.
there are end credit parts but it's basically audio of characters mashed together from the next episode and the title of the next episode basically just a teaser
One of my theories is that when they get to aureole and see the ghosts of Himmel and Heiter, Eisen ghost will be there too, that will break my heart if that happens
the end of this episode always get me, because it doesn't occur to Frieren she is one of the legendary heroes and the locals may see her as returning to their aid with a new generation of heroes with her...which she is traveling with the adopted daughter of the priest and the apprentice taken in at a young age of the dwarf of that same party, so she pretty much is escorting The Hero's party 2.0 from a locals perspective, and they've already been building some heroic clout already.
Frienren: Make an opening for us mages to attack. Stark: No, I'll die... Fine. Also Stark: One-shots the Dragon. I made the opening! Attack! Frieren: It's dead, so no.
It's kinda obvious those two will get together, even if it wasn't how anime worked, if you spend too much time with someone, your brain starts to create dependencies on that person and one could consider that falling in love and a pair of hormonal teenagers going to go on an approximately 10 years adventure... also I'm convinced he is a grower not a shower.
the comments about Fern and Stark dating and having babies reminded me of an old idea. Which I never tried as it is both slice of life and time consuming, and I don't have the patience, but the idea is a multi-generational adventuring party or immortal participating with locals. Which ahead of that, this anime and the Deedlet game on the Switch e-shop are the only two times I've seen something approach the idea of the immortal elf character outliving the rest of the adventuring party simply by them growing old. So the idea was, an elf or other immortal journeyed with a hero party and settled down near them, so was like the old friend, grandpa's friend, great grandpa's friend...our ancestor's friend...that immortal creature in the old ruins with ties to our bloodline by an ancient pact with one of our ancient ancestors...all because they were just friends with the adventurer and decided to stick around and look after their family...but stuck around too long so now their many times removed from the story descendants don't see them the same way anymore. But I am kind of a pessimist on that kind of thing, I think someone could do this in a much nicer light but still...oh there is a kind elf thousands of years old, she watches over and aids our family sometimes because she boned one of our ancestors....but typing that now realizing *spoilers for Castlevania animes* season 2 of Castlevania Nocturne is going to have something like this with Alucard showing up to help the descendant of Sypha and Trevor some 400 years after their adventure
As much as I would love to recommend some anime, I doubt you watch anything older than 10 years. If you do (and haven't seen these yet) try to find Elfen Lied (the music and opening is absolutely gorgeous), Scrapped Princess (the opening is literally how the main character's journey begins) and the only really recent one I recommend is Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (a remake, but a masterfully done one)
I understand we have to keep things rolling, but the discussion between Frieren and Stark about time is one of the rare misses I think the anime got. Here, it's played as a snippy joke, but I feel the paneling and word choices in the manga are deeper. Until recently, 3 years for Frieren has been trivial. For Stark living in a lie in fear, it's been an eternity.
You'll have to remember that neither Stark or Fern have spent time around people their own age, much less anyone of the opposite gender too. So yeah...
In fairness to Stark, it isn't like Fern has any reference, girl doesn't have any experience herself. Stark was also just standing there, not like he was "ready for action." He is also the first guy her age she has had to hang out with, and she has only traveled with Frieren in their two girl party, she is understandably weary of him. So I don't think she gave the poor guy a fair shake, keeps him humble though, lol.
Stark's schnitzel is probably just the 2nd schnitzel that Fern has seen. Fern is used to seeing Heiter in his underpants outside doing his "Praise the Sun" so she probably thought that was normal sized.
Ninth video asking. I am asking for a reaction to the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann since I bet we would all love watching your reaction. Woooo this is one of my favorite episodes yet! Cant wait to see what you think about it.
You & your fiance, your relationship work's because neither of you are super sensitive snowflakes, you are able to brush off words that seem harsh to other's, essentially allowing your relationship to continue, I sincerely applaud you for being one of the few to experience such a relationship, because in Oregon Hillsboro & Portland, Everyone be suffering, & nobody Wants to understand anything.
I love that Frieren is canonically a loot goblin. She's so keen on treasure she can't help but walk face-first into every mimic and gets excited over a pile of treasure despite normally seeming apathetic.
At least she got the shaved ice spell, in our country we called it ice kachang(with syrup, red beans and chendol on top, there’s diff variety of it)
Stark: "If I don't move he won't kill me."
Dragon: "If I don't me, he WILL kill me."
I like that the years stop flying by the more people she adds to her life. It’s like the more full and eventful her days are the slower and more significant the time that passes is to her. At least that’s my read xD

Speaking of voice actors, Frieren is voiced by Anya's VA (Spy x Family) and Himmel is voiced by Bakugo's (My Hero Academia).
She's also Maomao's favorite consort in Apothecary Diaries! Also if you like FFXIV, she was Meition and Fern was Ryne too!
Bakugo's VA got *range*
@jaesaces "Also Chise Ainsworth, of *_TAMB_* fame."
@@AraumCtrue
I WOULD NOT HAVE GUESSED SHE HAS ANYA'S VA IN A MILLION YEARS WTF
I knew the animation for clothing and movement would be epic after I found out that the director of Bocchi was the director of this
I think the fight is exactly 30 seconds, which makes that part even cooler
Fern is disrespecting my boy Stark 24/7, it's very stressful
Plot twist: let's make the human mage act like a typical elf
It's very funny***

I love the role reversal where Frieren is like the kid in a candy shop and Fern has to act like the mother. "You can have 3 sweets ONLY, ok?"
I love how people forget this is studio mad house as the production company.

Fern just proved herself that she's the most destructive mage has ever existed
Starting with episode 7 you will love this show even more.
7-10 are fire episodes for sure
I'm glad they're taking taking the the 2 week break now so she won't notice once she's all caught up :)
About 6 days from now for the next episode if y'all are wondering
That dynamic makes sense. Handy having an extrovert going off. Means the introvert can relax.

It's all about grinding those levels

Yea but this time we got to see it :)
stark slays the dragon, donkey lays a dragon
I bet Alicia will love Fern and Stark banter later, but sadly the most wholesome part of those 2 will not be animated this season
Which part is that? I've read the Manga, and so much has happened I genuinely can't remember 😅
I like the voice acting in this show. It's not as over-the-top as most other anime.
If you’re already impressed with the clothing animation, wait till you see episode 9, lol.

Fern only saw Starks sheath excalibur, just as you said he is a grower not a shower.
Fern doesn’t even have anything to compare it to. She has no idea where it falls on the spectrum. She’s just being mean.
She for sure will be surprised some time later
